At a minimum we have to test Bruno, Cavani and Rashford. I'd imagine Telles will start too.

Pretty sure we will play our full back four just to be safe and probably play Bruno, James, Greenwood & Rashford. It's semi final, if Roma see half of the XI are weak ones, they will be pumped to try to score 4 goals. I think the aim is like the Sociedad game which try to make sure it's draw or winning in first leg and then make subs in half time to rest our main players.

Personally, I would start VDB, Rashford, Diallo/Mata, Telles & Bruno. Play Greenwood in the weekend.

Considering we have 4 games in 9 days, I'd say Ole should rotate a bit today. And make subs in the first half if the game is done for the remaining key players

Got to be resting some players here. Get a win against Villa on Sunday before the ridiculous 72 hours after that.
Player welfare this season has been an utter joke.
Certainly has been a joke and according to some the Premier league couldn't move Villa v Liverpool forward a few days because it would be unfair.

    5 subs?

I think we will see a strong starting 11. Perhaps 8 of our strongest 11, and depending how the game goes, a couple of subs at half time, and then the other 3 throughout the 2nd half.

we have a great lead, but we won’t put out a reserve side.

I'm just grateful this is an away game and so should be 'allowed' to go ahead.

I'm sure the team has already been planned before the rescheduled games, so I can't see Ole changing his planned starting line up this late but it might effect how long he gives the starters (if things go well).

The first thing to do is make sure we don't find ourselves 2-0 down and the tie alive again, so I'm sure we'll start with a strong line up and look to keep them out until HT, or at least get an away goal or two, before making changes.

Hopefully, there'll be opportunites for the likes of Amad, Elanga, VDB to come on as subs. Although I suspect we'll see Mata used as a sub as well as I think he'll be trusted ahead of the others as a starter in some of those league games and will be given some much needed game time for match fitness.

It will probably be a pretty strong starting 11, otherwise, Ole would of left some of the key players in Manchester, but I hope they will not play that much. As for being on the safe side, for Christ sake, we've won 6-2. If we lose this tie or even bring ourselves in a position to be in danger of losing it, then we should issue an official statement asking to be relegated and play in the National League.
Especially because there is no chance we won't score at least once

Romas home record in the Europa league this season

    P6 W4 D2 L0 F15 A3

They went through last seasons Europa league campaign without losing a home game. Against Real Madrid in the Champions league in November 2018 their last home defeat in Europe.

In the Serie A this season they lost just 2 of their home games (2-0 v Napoli, 2-1 v AC Milan) only champions Inter lost fewer games at home.

Pogba is on a yellow isn’t he? If he gets another does he miss the next game( fingers crossed it’s the final)?

No, he would need to be on 3 yellows for that from 2 semi final games (would have been sent off then anyway).

With how much game we've got coming up, I would be resting a fair few.... Telles in for Shaw, Matic in for Fred, VDB for Bruno, Mata for Rashford, Mason for Cavani.

Thanks. Still feel it’s a risky selection. I’m
convinced that Roma will try and target one or two of ours tonight out of spite

Yeah, not more than 4/5 though. Starts to look very unbalanced

You're all mad if you think Ole will heavily rotate, they players haven't played for a week now so I fully expect to see Rashford, Pogba, Bruno , Cavani all start etc.

Team I would like to see him start:

    De Gea
    AWB - Bailly - Maguire - Telles
    Matic
    Bruno - Donny
    Mata - Greenwood - Amad
Team I expect to see start:

    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    Fred - Scott
    Bruno
    Rashford - Cavani - Pogba

No. They give clean slate after QF. So 2 yellow cards doesn't mean suspension. IIRC it's for 3 yellow cards.

Players will miss finals only if they get red card in semi finals.
Thank you.. that is good to know. Hopefully no early yellows then and if there is, especially to a defender/midfielder perhaps take them off.

Squad management is about looking ahead as well as back, and while, yeah, we've not played for a week, this is now the first of 4 games in 8 days - Thursday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday - so players are going to have to be rotated throughout that run and I can see why some think a game in which we 'start' with a 4 goal lead is a decent one to rotate.

That said, I agree that, with the EL the main priority, I personally think Ole will, and should, start with a strong team and then look to make changes as the game progresses. It's not 'mad' to discuss heavy rotation given the crazy schedule we've suddenly been landed with after the protests, but I don't think Ole will take any risks from the start tonight and just look to sub them off from HT onwards depending on the scoreline.

Ole said yesterday in his press conference that he’d make one or two changes. That was before the Liverpool game was announced and now having 4 games in 8 days. I’d expect a couple more now...

I expect the strongest team for both Roma and Villa with the exception of Cavani and maybe Rashford. The schedule ahead only affects selection for the Leicester game imo. Maguire and AWB are the two players that worry me the most, as we have no real alternative to them. I hope Ole goes with Williams or Tuanzebe in one of the games before Liverpool.

Can we make 5 subs? If so, go full strength to see the tie out. Hopefully win the first half, make 3 changes at HT (take Rashford, Bruno, Shaw off) then make the last 2 changes halfway through the second half.

Ensure we get to the final!

Roma scored 2 past us without having stringed more than 60 passes together. It would be very sensible to not underestimate them and play a strong side. We can always hook our key players once the job is done.
There's no point going playing our B side, going 3 goals down and then defending like mad demons for the last 20 mins.

Go out, get the job done.

I feel like you said this last year.
Possibly. But with the proposed changes to CL it will by design make it highly unlikely for us to enter the EL. I think they're scrapping the dropping down to EL from CL elimination thing. Even if we finish outside of top 4 we'd most of the times get one of the 'highest ranked non-qualified' spots because of our healthy coefficients. The teams who generally are ahead of us in the coefficients are teams that never fail to qualify through their domestic leagues.

Won't happen but I'd like to see Amad get a start, hate seeing Dan James play but I'm sure he will start instead.

You'd expect poor Donny will get a game here! This should be setup near perfectly for us. Roma have to come looking for goals which will leave space in behind. Exploit that and we should cruise this game and the tie. Kill them off before HT and get minutes into a few legs of the squad players.

    Expecting this:

    DDG
    AWB-Lindelof-Maguire-Shaw
    McTominay-Fred
    Greenwood-Bruno-Pogba
    Cavani

Just rest Rashford for a game please. I genuinely fear for his long term career prospects at this point. The guy needs a few months off from football to recover and he's not looking like getting it til summer 2022 at the earliest.
