At least we don`t have to worry about Semenyo this time around.
I think we will have enough quality to squeeze out a win, but the game will be tight as the asshole of an ant. Sweaty bum time

They are unbeaten in 10. We will need to be at our clinical best to get an away win tonight.
Another drab, slow start will shift us - we need to be at them.
I’ve gone for 2-0 because we play poorly every time we have a chance to make a statement and put some distance between us and other.

This will be a chance to see if Carrick has actually turned it around after Newcastle, or if Villa was a false dawn. In some ways you could say this is his first real test.

I was thinking the same thing...Carrick's "first real test" (tongue in cheek) is Bournemouth.

Carrick's detractors here -- the ones who have argued that "xPTS" proves that Carrick is simply lucky and that his luck will run out once he's found out as a fraud -- could plausibly (unpersuasively, but plausibly) argue the new manager bounce, catching opponents on off days and benefitting from red card decisions, but Bournemouth are wise to the danger we present them with and to the best of my knowledge have a decent disciplinary record this season, so we should expect Bournemouth to be at full strength until the final whistle.

People seem to be forgetting this, mixed in with our recent slow starts in games.
Still hope for the best though, but an 8pm Friday nighter 100s of miles away doesn't scream promising. Feels another Newcastle away job.

One of the few teams in the league with feck all to play for. 10th, not in Europe, not in the FA Cup, unlikely to qualify for Europe so tonight is basically the highlight of the rest of the season for them.

This is their Cup Final as usual, the spotlight game.

Unchanged eleven. I just hope Sesko is okay with being constantly benched after delivering again and again, a lot of players wouldn't be.

Good chance 8th will get the conference place. They are only 2 points off it.

This Sesko nonsense seriously needs to stop. ‘He scores as a sub so let’s keep doing that’. No, let’s give him more opportunity to score from the start so we’re not relying on him coming off the bench.

    Agreed.

I'd agree but not this season, seems the lack of quality options means his better to come on to have that impact that others don't bring

He'd replace Amad and I'd rather sesko comes off the bench in need of quality than Amad

No problem with the lineup. Bournemouth will squeeze up on us and we might be able to play in any of our front 3. Sesko still a bit too static even if he gives us a great reference upfront. I sure hope he comes in and gets a goal at some point.

Yes, and all whilst Mbeumo has been poor for so many games

    Sesko should generally be starting.

Even leaving aside the fact that he merits it on form, playing without the attributes of a more orthodox CF in the team makes things needlessly complicated. There's a reason teams typically play actual CFs at CF, and Mbeumo isn't a natural CF.

It makes sense in certain games, and I wouldn't argue against Carrick doing it in any individual game without seeing how it plays out tactically. But if he's doing it regularly, that's cause for qualms.

I think its because Carrick likes the option of changing the game from the bench by bringing Sesko on. Start him and you're likely bringing Amad or JZ off the bench.

Truly believe that Sesko would be starting if we had another good striker. Purely a hunch but its mine so..

Makes sense today with Bournemouth willing to have more of the ball and United trying to beat them on the counter. Mind, if that does not work out, he really should be getting 30+ minutes today.

Yeah but if Sesko, our most inform player, actually started like he should be, maybe we wouldn't need to change the game from the bench.

There seems to be this narrative that Sesko cannot play on the counter despite the fact he scored arguably our best counter attack goal all season.

Yeah, I edited my post to make clear that it might make sense in any individual game, so wouldn't criticise him for it today specifically. It could 100% be the right call today.

But if playing without a real CF is the right call for your tactical approach most of the time, it raises some questions about that approach. It certainly isn't something I'd want to see us doing next season.

I feel like there has to be some tangible reason why he doesn't start Sesko, because otherwise the answer is that Carrick is a complete imbecile who doesn't understand the most basic concepts of football, and it seems really unlikely that that's the case. There's something that gives him a reason to leave Sesko on the bench and put him in later. We don't know everything that's going on.

Honestly do not agree with benching Sesko. Why wait to bring him on when he's our most potent attacking threat. I don't get it.

Mbuemo better be good today. Has been ass for a few games now. Him keeping Sesko out has started to grate me.
