    Henderson
    TFM--Bailly--Maguire--Williams
    Scot -- Fred
    Van de Beek -- Lingard
    Ighalo -- CF

I think this formation would play to our strength. Defence would be solid, attack would be balanced and midfield would better control the game.

who do you think would be our second striker if Ole went with this strategy?

I don't give a shit about the League Cup this year.

I mean, I don't give a shit any year. But this year in particular, I give even less of a shit than no shit.

United will have to squeeze a full 10 month calendar of games into the next 8 months. That's after a late finish to the previous season. And it's going to be followed directly by a European Championship, a truncated preseason then another full season of football.

We barely scraped into the top 4 in 19/20. This season has to be about consolidation of our place and avoiding too much fatigue in the long run.

The way Covid-19 has left things, if we screw up 20/21 it'll mess significantly with 21/22 and potentially harm our chances of CL qualification for years to come. The League Cup can do one, as far as I'm concerned.

Second string win a bonus but probably never so unfussed about losing

Don’t mind if we go out, but looking at Spurs schedule the next week before we play them, I’d try to get some of our players going. AWB, Martial, Pogba, Rashford and Bruno should all get at least 45 mins each. Donny should get a start with Scot and Fred. Henderson in goal of course.

An academy player in for Ighalo please.
Yeah, that's how I feel too. Not sure there is anyone ready.

I wonder if Maguire will get a rest or if he's supposed to play 60 games this season, sometimes 3 in a week.

Will be a very similar team that we played against Luton you'd expect.

Maybe Mctominay instead of Matic and Fosu Mensah instead of AWB.

Definitely. Brighton will rotate too, so it's no like we are rolling over by playing the second team anyway.

Ole loves to play the first team, and some do needs more match practice. So I am a bit worried we'll see a disproportionately strong team.

They got United at home again. Damn, that's unfortunate. They'll be up for it.

We haven't played Brighton for fecking ages so not sure what to expect.
You'll get a completely different line up from us this time, I expect something like this.

    Steele
    Veltman Roberts Burn
    Jahanbaksh Propper Molumby Bernardo
    Gross Mac Allister
    Gyokeres

Whoever scores for us has to without a shadow of a doubt has to do the crying celebration for Maupay. If we get a penalty, this has to be dinked down the middle. Regardless of whether the keeper knows its going to happen.
We don't indulge in such pettiness. Another team in Manchester does, but we don't.

Agree with the sentiment that this is the one league cup season that we absolutely need to play reserves in. This is the craziest season of all time. We can play the first xi if we somehow stumble into the semifinals but not now.

I would play Smalling if he is up for it.

Ighalo is terrible and Martial has been off and I'll play him to give him more match sharpness and gain more confidence. If not, I'll play Rashford as a striker.

We got terminated down the right side with our first team and you want to put Mata on the right wing? Erm seems rather risky.
They'll play a completely different eleven like they did last week vs Preston.

Also, you can accuse Mata of many things, but not putting a shift in /doing his defensive work isn't one of them

Luke or Eric? Aren’t they both quite old now?

Ugh, not this shitty cup again. Will we have this every week this season?

I honestly wouldn't mind losing just to be rid of it. The season's schedule will be insane enough without it.

Ok fair enough if it is a different team. For Mata down the right, it is very much the spirit is willing but the body is weak. He would not have the physical ability to effectively make up the ground to track back and help out RB if an attack goes down our right.

I want this Cup to see Henderson in action and to give some minutes to our next generation of talent.

Let's play that next generation of talent then. But we played the senior squad players and some starters against Luton. As we progress in this cup, even more starters will probably play which might cost us in the more important competitions.

We should put out the fringiest of fringe XIs and if we lose, we lose. Better that than yet another competition for our first teamers to break themselves in.

None. Ole "I play youth" Solskjaer won't risk anything against Luton, and he will not do it here.
Are you stupid? These games are effectively pre-season for us and we need the first team players match fit before Mengi gets his chance. There will be plenty of games for him to get minutes, don't worry about that.

The amount of people putting Lingard in their starting 11
    What are we missing?

He looked sharp against Luton, unless there is concrete evidence he is leaving then I think he'll be involved at the least (depending on how seriously Ole is going to take this game of course, he might even play the first team but I doubt it).

Yeah, Maguire with 56 games last season and this season combined really needs games. Take a walk, brother.

Not both Mata and Lingard in the same line up please. Imo Ole must be crazy if he'd play his first XI this match so:
    Henderson
    TFM Bailly Maguire Williams
    Fred McT
    VDB
    Lingard Ighalo James

The idea is to start slow, stay back and wait for the counter attack. We've been pretty great with this approach and Fred/McT as our double pivot. So we need fast players on the wing (no Mata) and a target striker for long balls.

It'd be crazy to play our first string and even crazier to think we can dominate them there with our second one.
