Henderson, Dalot, Fosu-Mensah, Bailly, Williams; McTominay, Fred; James, van de Beek, Lingard; Ighalo.

Hopefully Mengi will make an early second half substitution for Bailly.

Play Pogba in the 8/10 position with Mctominay and Fred in this game and let VDB play the next league game.

    Are you the ref?
I will be very disappointed if Van De Beek gets a start and we line him up with James, Ighalo and Lingard - Ole, please give the guy a chance.

Donny needs to get time to play with our regular first team. At the very least, Greenwood should get a start, he is unlikely to be picked for the internationals so give him 2 games to get match fitness and let's see if those two, really good natural footballers, can get a chance to form some sort of partnership.

The other question for me is Pogba, he has looked terrible in the first 2 PL games. If he is still suffering from the after-effects of Covid-19 then he should not be playing at all. If on the other hand, he is just struggling to get match fitness then why on earth would he not play? He is not going to magically get ready for the Tottenham game by sitting on the bench.

You'll get a completely different line up from us this time, I expect something like this.

    Steele
    Veltman Roberts Burn
    Jahanbaksh Propper Molumby Bernardo
    Gross Mac Allister
    Gyokeres
Roberts and Gyokeres are new names to me so guessing either Academy Grads or recent purchases but it doesn't look the worst team i've ever seen. Graham Potter is definitely getting a decent squad together down there now.

I've always liked Pascal Groß, his goal and assists(7+8) helped me win my FPL League in 2017/18 :D

It's the League Cup, so I think we will use the squad, probably pretty much the same as the Luton game. Some people seem to be assuming we'll be up against the Brighton selection we've just played - Potter will want to use his squad for this as well, as much as he can, and has hinted he will do so.

    I’d go with,

    Henderson

    AWB Bailly Mengi/Tuanzebe Williams

    Fred McTominay

    Pogba

    VdB Martial Lingard

Think AWB, Martial and Pogba need some game time, sub them off early 2nd half.

Would like to see Pogba further up (don’t think he can play in the double pivot) and VdB on the right instead of James, I’d rest Greenwood for this one.

Maguire and Lindelof need to be rested for Spurs at the weekend, I’d prefer Maguire and Bailly against Spurs but think Ole will stick with Lindelof for a little longer and said he needed a rest.

Left side defence may be a bit suspect but should be strong enough to get the win.

Hayden Roberts is another CB fresh off our CB conveyor belt!

Viktor Gyökeres is a young Swedish striker, already capped (I think) I am not so sure about him, but he scored in the last round so we’ll see. Potter might just know more than me!

He's 22 so he's been around a bit, yep and scored against Iceland, came from the same club United signed Bojan Djordjic from Brommapojkarna.

With a name like that he's obvious got a bit of Hungarian or Lithuanian in him.

And Roberts isn't he an England youth International that Leeds United were sniffing around once they realised there was no chance they'd sign Ben White?

Yes but we have been clear that he not going anywhere this season, he is only just 18 but has been training with the first team since last season and like White we have very high hopes for him.

RB Leipzig, Mainz, Derby and Brentford as well as Leeds have all shown an interest, which is certainly promising.

Have you high hopes that in White and Roberts you've belatedly found your new Gary Stevens and Stevie Foster?

I'm still waiting for one of them to start wearing the Foster white headband/bandage every game!

Just go complete rotation every time in the carabao cup, its not worth anything more.

Jason Steele from Sunderland Till I Die? You can have as many chances as you want again mate! We’ll still win as every shot will go in

He made a fantastic finger tip save in the last round, he's improved since his TV doco days, and to be fair you only had three shots on target on Saturday and they all went in too!

The 2nd string certainly can’t do any worse than Martial, Pogba et al did! Seriously though, aside from Steele, our depth is tragic but they can’t not do better than the first XI did.

I'm really looking forward to it. It'll be an interesting game as neither set of fans will be too bothered if we go out, though obviously it would be great to win and progress.

But our second team has been playing really well though they have had lower league opponents so far, so I am actually quite excited to see how they do against proper premiership players even if it is your second team as well. I think they'll be quite evenly matched.

I'd love Ole to try Greenwood up front for a game, he's going to have to try it at some point.

If Pogba really does need match fitness he should be starting this game along with AWB who looked very rusty to me.

For what it’s worth, I think we’ll go:
    Hendo
    TFM Bailly Maguire Williams
    McT Fred
    Mata VdB James
    Ighalo

So yeah, it should be evenly matched. I’ll go for 1-1 with us winning on pens (he’ll sub Rashford and Bruno on at the end like he did against Luton).

Defo what Ole will put out. He should really play Lindelöf instead of Maguire though.

Hope to rest maximum of players. This year will be exhausting with CL and PL and with our already tired squad, we should not field our best players again

I'd never heard the name Falmer Stadium before. These sponsorship names are shite.

Then again I bet Brighton fans are happy to avoid "Falmers' team" quips, they'd never hear the end of it.

Up for rotating, on one hand the likes of Pogba need minutes as clearly lacking match sharpness, but think it's safer to rotate. Stitches Donny up a bit to not be playing with our best attacking options, but will be good to see him linking up with Greenwood.

Giving Greenwood game time through the middle rather than out wide will be beneficial long term, plus keeps the legs ticking over with squad players like Fred, McT and Lingard. Baily probably one more impressive performance to becoming first choice CB next to Maguire?

I'm less ambivalent about this game than many others here. With only one leg in all rounds now, we're 3 games away from a cup final, and I think winning a trophy, and solidifying top 4 are the targets this season, top 4 alone won't be enough in terms of progress, and it would be great to get some silverware for Ole and the young side he's building to use as a spring-board.

Would be tempted to go 3 at the back. Our defense was so exposed on Saturday. Only problem is our second string doesn't really have the personnel to do so. I would try and play Pogba into some sort of form.

I hope we´ll stay in the cup, but use it to experiment with players and positions. I hope Ole wants to see Williams as right back, James as left wing, and Pogba in a more advanced position.

    ................... Henderson

    Williams - Bailly - Maguire - Shaw

    ..........van de Beek - McTominay

    .................... Pogba

    Lingard - Greenwood - James

I think we´ll struggle, so subs:

    James > Martial
    Lingard > Rashford
    Pogba > Fernandes

Hope to start to see better performances. Van De Beek and Pogba should both start. Hope Rashford does too to keep his confidence up.

wish I could get even a small amount of interest or this competition but given the state of things, really it should have been scrapped
