Burnley Football Club (also known as The Clarets) are a professional football club based in Burnley, Lancashire. Burnley were founded during May 1882, when Burnley Rovers Football Club decided to shift their allegiance from rugby union to football. Playing in various blue and white kits for their first few years, the club played their first competitive game in October 1882 against Astley Bridge in the Lancashire Challenge Cup, that game ending in an 8–0 defeat. In 1883 the club moved to Turf Moor and remain there, only their Lancashire rivals Preston North End having occupied the same ground continuously for longer.

They first appeared in the FA Cup in 1885-86 but were ignominiously beaten 11–0 when eligibility restrictions meant that their reserve side had to be fielded against Darwen. When it was decided to found the Football League for the 1888-89 season, Burnley were among the 12 founders of that competition. Through the years, Burnley have the won the First Division title twice, the FA Cup once, and reached the quarter-finals of the 1960-61 European Cup. Burnley biggest rivals are Blackburn Rovers (the fixture between the two is termed the East Lancashire derby), and they play their home games at Turf Moor.

    At a guess

    De Gea

    Pogba - Herrera - Fellaini
    Lingard - Rashford - Martial

Would like Mkhi in but think he won't after playing 120 min.

Really happy if we can find 11 fit players who have energy to run for even one half.

We will be extremely lucky to come away from here with one point, let alone three.

Burnley are a very difficult team to beat at home, and with our players knackered after playing 120 minutes I'd be happy enough with a draw and no more injuries.

Thank goodness this was at home, and Burnley is so local too!

I think it's pretty likely we'll bring as many changes in as we can

De Gea, Young, Herrera and Darmian very likely to come in.
The 3 subs, Fellaini, Blind and Martial certain to start this one. Lingard came off fairly early, so will be fresher than either Miki/Rashford, one of whom will certainly be rested.

Not sure Rooney is up to speed to start, as we didn't even bring him on when needing a goal, though in fairness 2 subs were injury forced

    Therefore, I can see

    De Gea
    Darmian Blind, Bailly, Young
    Pogba Herrera Fellaini
    Lingard Rashford Martial

Miki probably will get a break, Rooney to come on later on

This lot are good at home. Can't take them lightly.

Interested to see what we'll do now that Ibra's probably done for the season. Similar tactics to the Chelsea game perhaps?

    Team should be...

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    Young--Tuanzebe--Blind--Darmian
    -------Herrera-----Fosh-Mensah-------
    Lingard-------Fellaini-------Martial
    ---------------Rooney---------------

Subs: Romero, Bailly, Shaw, Carrick, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Rashford

    Basically rest everyone

I should have just posted "this", rather than my waffly version which 100% matches yours.

In an ideal world he'd have rested both Miki and Rashford, but there's no chance unless Ibra has some sort of incredible recovery

Possibly, but going from how they've performed against the top six this season it'll be more difficult than we think. Think Jose may even play a weakened team with one eye on the derby next week.

Here are their home results vs. top 10 opposition - they've given them close games:

    Burnley 2-0 Liverpool
Burnley 0-1 Arsenal (conceded a last minute handball goal)
    Burnley 2-0 Watford
    Burnley 2-1 Everton
    Burnley 1-2 Man City
    Burnley 1-1 Chelsea
    Burnley 1-0 Southampton
    Burnley 0-2 Spurs

They haven't conceded more than two goals at home all season.

I'd be very wary of this tie, looks easier on paper than it is.

Hopefully we can get an hour out of Rashford and Valencia. I'd take a draw, don't think we even scored there in our last couple of visits.

Could be rooney somewhere I guess. Valencia probs rested after 120 minutes today and then the chelsea game. Looked knackered.

Only Pogba and Bailly from the players who played the full 120 minutes. With the City game in mid-week, we'll have to rest the majority of the players and hope for a lucky win here.

Mourinho is asking Jones and Smalling to “risk it for the team”! :nervous:

We're going to need some God-level injuries/fixtures moaning this week to make us underdogs for this one. If there's one man who can do it, it's Jose.

Burnley - Would play Pogba but think Mkhi is more of a goal threat. Can't see Martial starting.

    Darmian - Bailly - Blind - Shaw
    Lingard - Herrera - Fellaini - Young
    Mkhitaryan
    Rooney
    Man City
    De Gea

    Mkhitaryan - Herrera - Carrick - Pogba - Lingard

    People wanting Rashford to start:lol:

The guy is 19 and has ran himself into the ground for the last two games. Needs to be on the bench.

I'd play 3-5-2 with Martial and Rooney as the centre strikers. Young and Darmian as the wing backs. We really need to be careful with team selection as we don't need want more players pulling up. Even someone like Bailly may need resting.

Love the confidence people have. Burnley are great at home and we'll probably not player too many key players for this anyway. A draw seems about right.
