He was good in the first half, IMO. Lack of fitness showed in the second half and he was promptly subbed.
I didn’t think he was remotely good and he looked pretty off the pace throughout. As I said, starting a half-fit player over a fully fit one is ridiculous. Unless of course, that half-fit player is a difference maker and is worth the risk. Matic isn’t.

Any team will have a go against us these days. We somehow are easy to beat or at least get a positive result. Hope just hope we don't drop points here. Awful season it seems.

3rd defeat on the trot coming up and everything will go mental:devil:
Surely it can't get any worse? Or can it? We will be in December 2015 territory if it's another defeat. Also there's an international break coming so if we lose its going to be very uncomfortable waiting for the next game with all the negative press we will get.

Exactly this. Yes most of the fans do not want the next game to come but we should be willing to look forward to it to gain some confidence. Hope we win before that stupid break.

Burnley play tomorrow so might be a bit knackered on Sunday. With fatigue kicking in we should be able to make things a bit difficult for them.

Just checked. They are at home. would've been better if they had to travel.

This is what it has come down to
Anything to get the season kickstarted.

My main concern is if we continue trying to use the same midfield Burnley could out battle us in midfield.

As much as I really hate Fellaini, I do agree that we need either him or Herrera in midfield.
We are so aerially poor, it is ridiculous. It's the same mistakes from last season but we look even less confident. At the moment, Fellaini has to play. There's no way around it until something drastically changes with our defence.

I think this will be a really tight match but we'll get the win.
The first few minutes will be telling though. Our players are under huge pressure and another defensive change will only create more doubt in the side.

We have no defensive leaders for the first time in ages.

Genuinely believe that it's at least a season defining game.

Jose threw the dice for the last time after the Spurs game. He applauded and praised the fans, put his arm around some of the players and declared war on the media. One last attempt to create a siege mentality and we'll find out if it works on the weekend. Odds are against him.

If we don't stand up for this game, I think Jose is done. He may or may not walk / get sacked, but I'll give up any glimmer of hope that we can turn it around while he's here.

We need to score first. If we concede a goal, especially early on, it could be a horrible afternoon as I just don't know if there's enough self-belief within this lot to come back from it. Real lack of composure at the moment.

Playing more games early in the season has its advantages too: match practice et al. Maybe I'm just pessimistic.

Shame that there seems to be a reliance on that!

It's Burnley who are in poor form too, ffs!

Burnley are in bad form too, it's all about getting the win. Pretty or not United need these 3 points. Anything other and Jose could be gone before the next game. Should have enough to get the win but hard to have any confidence with this side.

I would stick with the same formation. I thought it worked well for the most part. 3-5-2/3-5-1-1

I would drop Matic because he is too slow and lacks mobility. Lukaku because he has been missing sitters in every game so far.

Burnley have been really poor but trust them to raise the roof and perform against us on sunday. Fellaini will start, I'm sure of that. Will probably be:

    DDG
    Valencia
    Bailly
    Smalling
    Shaw
    Matic
    Fellaini
    Pogba
    Lingard
    Sanchez
    Lukaku

A midfield diamond with Matic holding and Fell, Pog ahead, Lingard cam. Think we can grind out a 2-1 win.

We need to go back to basics. Start again and build up.

Do you remember after City beat us 6-1, the next few games Fergie just got the team to focus on doing the simple things right? I think we went on a run of winning games 1-0.

Right now, our defence is letting us down. We (fans, media, everyone) all want Jose to have us playing attacking football, but if that means leaving our train-wreck of a defence open to attack, we're in trouble. Get us playing as a unit - it won't be pretty, but make ourselves hard to beat above all else.

Depressing as hell having to write this, but it's true. We have enough individual quality in the final areas of the pitch to be sure of goals. That's where we're at right now.

You would trust Lindelof again after Monday night? You're better than me..

Bailly-Lindelof are the best of a bad bunch in my opinion. I doesn't helps when the team is losing and you come off the bench after getting dropped. I would like to see the back 5 stay the same for a run of 10 games, despite results. Chopping and changing every week won't help. It just makes other players nervous, even De Gea.

Mourinho's indecisiveness looks weak. We all get it, You wanted a CB but the window is close, so stop crying about it. It almost feels like he is faffing about the defence on purpose just to make a point.

We need focus on football and results, not petty squabbling through the media about how much you hate Woodward. We need to get 3 points to restore some moral and positivity. I hope we can do that regardless of the XI. I'm going to the Watford game following this one, It would be nice to go into that with a win.

I remember people saying we have a giant team now, we’ll be better in the air.
More like a team of Fellaini’s.

Go with the same formation and approach against Spurs. I liked what I saw in that first half. Push Valencia and Shaw higher up the pitch again, where they are more attacking wingbacks rather than fullbacks. High press from the top with Fred, Sanchez and Lukaku.

I can deal with Bailly - Lindelof not so much. He fails to do the basics right and comes across too weak.

I think at this stage it has to be Smalling +1 if we stick with a back two, if were doing 3 I would be tempted to put in Rojo.

A win and a 2 week break might be the best for the team.

Some of the players out there still look like they're suffering from WC fever.

If we get the 3 points no matter how. The 2 week break gives us a chance to let the horror show sizzle out and look forward to the next game.

Play like we did first half against Spurs and we'll win. Historically, Burnley away has always been a tough game but I think we'll see a reaction from our players who will want to get a result there.

Is Dalot fit? I’d throw him in if he is.
To introduce a young kid to the side, it should be done alongside senior professionals.
The last thing you want is to make your first start, as a teenager while watching the CBs for your team play really badly and get turned inside out by Burnley.
Now is not the time to give him any game time, unless you want his confidence to be shot to pieces, in his very first game.

For those putting Martial up front, here's a thought. You could have conceived a baby the day Martial last scored for us & it would be born around about now.:drool::drool:
Putting Martial in the team would just be cruel to him. The guy has been terrible for several months and putting him in a game which we know is going to be scrutinised to the nth degree, is not the kind of game to find his form. If we draw or lose, with Martial on the pitch, the fingers will point to the management, but also to certain players, including Martial - not so good for a player lacking confidence.

Out of interest, has Jose ever lost 3 in a row?
Defeat for Manchester United against Watford on Sunday saw Jose Mourinho lose three games in a row in the same season for the first time in 14 years. The 3-1 defeat at Vicarage Road followed on from a 2-1 loss to Manchester City last Saturday and a 1-0 reverse in the Europa League tie with Feyenoord on Thursday.

The last time Mourinho oversaw three consecutive defeats in a season was all the way back during his time at Porto in 2002. Between then he’s managed Chelsea (twice), Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
