Not surprised by the bench but a little disappointed. Like others have said I’d have wanted at least a young striker on the bench for if we need to change it. As it stands if Zirkzee doesn’t play well we have no option to change the game.

Well that lineup is our strongest, which is our biggest problem. Not confident in this one, hopefully Amad and Mbeumo give us something to cheer about.

Wonder why Obi isn’t in the frame for atleast the bench?

He wasn’t at the Solihull Moors game the other night either so I assumed he may have been in contention for this.
Unless he’s injured, Amorim’s usual reticence toward youth players and aversion to risks.

Go on, using a different formation what line up would you produce with the currently available players? I'm having a go in my head here and not really getting anything that looks much better.
    4-3-3

    Lammens

    Dalot
    De Ligt
    Yoro
    Shaw

    Mainoo
    Casemiro

    Bruno

    Amad
    Zirkzee
    Mbuemo

I guess if Zirkzee puts in another underwhelming display, we could move Mbeumo into the centre, Amad in the 10 role and Dorgu brought on to play as a RWB. We know damn well the formation won't change though. Just personnel shifted into other roles.

Seven defensive players on the bench.
It’s basically two proper attackers too. An out and out winger/wide forward in Mbeumo and a “false 9” type striker in Zirkzee.

He’s a little bit hamstrung right now but the rocket science of continuously playing fewer attackers than defensive players and expecting things to change is insanity

Great.. one attacking option on the bench.

Surely there has to be a few other players there to have on the bench. Anyone at all.. that's how we saw Rashford get his chance or even Macheda.

Just give a kid a chance.

Gonna have win this with ‘effort’ today.

    Bench can’t help them.

    C’mon United

Well, it's a tough task as we haven't tried any other formations yet. But given the fact that we play like shit most weeks, I think it's worth trying something else.

With a 4-3-3 from our option this very day, I would probably go:

    Lammens
Dalot - De Ligt - Yoro - Shaw
    Mainoo - Casemiro - Bruno
Amad - Zirkzee (or Mount as false 9) - Mbeumo (with Amad and Mbeumo switching quite a bit)

    How about you?

Says more about the makeup of the squad than of amorim tbf.
He's been allowed to shape the squad in this way as well. We sold/loaned three wingers and only signed Mbeumo to replace them.

On an unrelated note, continuing to play Bruno Fernandes deep when we're missing two attacking options is insanity.

Would like to see abit more from Yoro today.
Defensively, agreed. Not sure we can expect much more from him if he’s repeatedly playing as an inverted fullback in the build up Trent Arnold style like he was against Everton. Just not his bag. It’d be like hoping Mason Mount will win every aerial duel against Guehi

We basically need to be 2 goals up at least by half time to have a chance of winning

7/9 players being defensively minded on the bench is disgusting to see. So there's not any midfielders or strikers in the youth set up we could have.

Surely if we need a goal bringing on a striker rather than ugarte or malacia would make more sense no?

Anyway I wasn't expecting anything from this game. Will be a pleasant surprise if we get something but let's be honest we need wins. Draws do nothing

If West Ham can inflict another defeat on the scousers this afternoon (wishful thinking), holding on to 12th place by losing, will probably be the only positive coming out of today game.

If we get a draw, with the scousers losing or drawing, that’ll move us up to 9th place.
A win will put us in 6th place, a point short of top 4.

The Palace line up is stronger. Lets hope they are tired from Thursday.

From an attacking perspective, that's a terrible bench. We have zero depth. The ratio of defenders to attackers in our club is just bizarre.

I have the same feeling today as I had for Liverpool and Brighton, that we'd get stuffed. Hopefully the same result as those 2 games

Better fit than the current setup though. Players all in their best positions. More attacking impetus. Should get more control in the middle.
I don't think Shaw's a left back anymore and I don't think whichever one of Mbuemo and Amad plays on the left would look too comfortable.

Gotta imagine that midfield should work better than ours does but I'm not convinced there's an attacking threat there that I'd have more faith in than the Amad, Mbuemo right-sided combination that we'll be pinning our hopes on today.

He's been allowed to shape the squad in this way as well. We sold/loaned three wide players and only signed Mbeumo to replace them.
It’s genuinely hilarious because some of us made a genuine observation about this at the time — take away Amad and Mbeumo (which will happen for about a month) and we have zero wingers in the first team squad. The very essence of this club has been purged

There's just no excuse for wasting a bench spot on Malacia over an attacking youth player.

Why doesn’t he start Lacey? Zirkzee is out of form and we know it

There's just no excuse for wasting a bench spot on Malacia over an attacking youth player.
There are more players on the bench who can play left back or left wing back than can play in one of the attacking positions.

I'm so done with this style. All of the priorities are in the wrong places.

How the club haven't given Ruben at least another forward option is utter incompetence.

I still think we should've considered a move for Welbeck in the summer.
Stop gap sure but its something.

If only those 3 wingers weren't bad/or had off the field issues.

Last part I agree with, play Mainoo where Bruno is and play Mount false 9, Bruno LAM. Bench Zirkzee

They signed him three attackers in the window, ffs.

Did Palace put out a strong team against Strasbourg?

The alternative to Bruno deep is Ugarte or Mainoo. Neither are good enough.
