I always find Everton a tricky one to predict - they fire hot and cold.

This season they have picked up 12pts from a possible 18 at home in the league. However, have only bagged 5pts out of a possible 18 in their last Premier League ties, and 1pt in November. This is a team in a similar dip of form as us, but I think we have hit our nadir and are on the way up.

I reckon Everton 1-3 Man Utd

Lineup (I pray it is this)

    DDG
    Valencia Rojo Jones Shaw
    Carrick Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Mata Martial
    Ibrahimovic

Just had a look at some Everton forums and they aren't confident at all. Especially for some who saw the way Mkhi and Martial played alongside Zlatan and Rooney in our last game. There's also a mixed reaction on Rooney's suspension. Some are happy as they've seen his upturn in form and don't want him getting the record against them, whilst some are disappointed as they know how he plays at Goodison.

Personally, I'm never confident going to Goodison but we need to go on a run and I'm strangely optimistic we'll start it here. I hope Martial and Mkhi get the chance to continue their form from the previous match.

Think we will see Carrick in this one, with him being subbed around 70 minute mark for Fellaini if the result is in our favour. Also because playing both Mata and Mikhi with 2 man MF of Pogba and Herrera leaves us very open to stronger opposition which Everton surely is.

    DDG
    Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Blind
    Carrick
    Mikhi, Herrera, Pogba, Martial
    Ibrahimovic

Romero, Darmian, BFS, Fellaini, Rashford, Lingard, Mata on the bench.

Another game, another draw for sure. We'll be frustrated as usual especially at Goodison where we are crap these years.

Nedd to play a strong team hopefully

Massive game this. If he sticks with Martial and Mkhi and they perform like they did midweek then I think we'll win comfortably.

A few have posted it but this just picks itself at the moment. Mata is incredibly unlucky but so what? Get 2-0 and give him half an hour to fight for his place. That’s where we need to be. Against Everton we should have Mata, Bailly, Rashford on the bench all thinking that they should be starting and with a justifiable argument. Actual competition and players in form! Reminds me of when we were good!

Absolutely vital we pick up maximum points through December. If we do that I think we’ll be in a position come Jan 14th to make a statement against them and be right back amongst it. On paper an easy February leading up to City end of March.

It wont happen, but I'd love to see a
    Mikhi-Mata-Martial

Carrick - Pogba and Ander all deserve their spots so someone will have to sit out.
Rooney, when he comes back will deserve a start as well..

    What a problem to have.

It was a toss up between the two, but my thinking was that we are away from home, so I would like a more defensive midfielder to allow Pogba to venture forward. I fear Herrera and Pogba would be too attacking and away from home with the crowd on their side may hinder us/leave us vulnerable.

I also feel he controls the midfield much better than Herrera. If this was a home game, I would have had herrera.

I personally cannot wait for another infuriating 1-1 draw with a lot of poorly taken chances.
No no...that's what we do in our home league game.
In the away games, we tend to be more clinical (though we also tend to lose more, away).

I hear what you are saying, but Jose prefers to play Herrera in league games, with Carrick playing in the Cup games. Perhaps Carrick's age prevents him from playing 2 games/week?
I was never a fan of Herrera, but under Jose, the guy has been similar to R.Keane, with his high energy levels and aggression. So playing with Herrera is not necessarily a bad thing.

We seriously have to win this (along with the last few games we've managed to not win). We're saying we finally have too many forwards and midfielders in form to field them all, so there aren't any excuses this time.

We have to win this but i'm not hopeful.. the pattern seems to be that if we do well midweek we either turn crap at the weekend or have the crappiest luck.

I can't see united losing this one. It'll be an unlucky draw again at worst. Everton have had a terrible November and we are finally on the up. We have competition for places and belief coming back into the squad, whoever plays will want to perform. I think this the best time for an Everton away game where we haven't traditionally done very well in past seasons.

Think Carrick will be odd one out but may come on as sub depending on how the match is going. I'd be quite pleased to see us start with Zlatan, Martial, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, and Herrera in front of whatever back 4 is fit.
    That's some attacking lineup there.

We will lose, not even the slightest chance we win. Sorry but if you've been following us closely for the last 3 years you know the drill.

Is Shaw likely to be fit for this?

If Carrick is fit then I think Jose takes the more pragmatic approach and starts Carrick-Pogba-Herrera sacrificing one of Mata/Mikh to start.

Are pretty much nailed on for my money. Then it's two from Herrera, Mata and Mkhitaryan. I personally wouldn't mind which of the three doesn't play, it's a very hard decision. I think Mata might be just a tad bit more likely to be the unfortunate one, as the pace of Mkhitaryan and Martial will be required, while Pogba and Herrera can alternate the no.10 position and have the legs to help us win the midfield battle.

Sadly, I think a draw is the most likely result again, but hopefully we can nick it. Most fans want the same 11-12 players starting here, so if Jose picks them and we don't win, no complaints.

We've also got a strong bench with Rashford, Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Young, Darmian etc all being able to help out in different ways.

Time to try Schweinsteiger in Carrick's role ?

    -----------De Gea----------
    Valencia- Jones- Rojo- Blind
    --------Schweinsteiger--------
    -------Herrera---- Pogba-------
    Mkhi--- Ibrahimovic-- Martial
Why not Carrick in Carrick's role?

Don't think Martial is nailed on. He didn't even make the squad last week. Yes he had a good game on Wednesday, but one thing I've noticed about Mourinho is that he is keeping the players second guessing.

Possibly, but who starts there? I know it's not much different but we haven't seen Miki on the left yet, Rooney is out and Rashford is even more out of favour than Martial. Martial seems like a confidence kind of player, so with him scoring two I'd throw him right back in.

If Rooney wasn't suspended then it would be a much bigger question.

Selection headaches for Jose, shows how well we've been playing recently. Everton not in good form, so I'm expecting us to again dominate exchanges and create enough chances to win fairly comfortably. Question is will we convert those chances...Miki, martial, mata and zlatan, plus Pogba comes back...you gotta think there's a couple of decent finishes in there, despite the scarring of the previous frustrating draws.

Really looking forward to this game, and very interested to see starting 11. Although will literally puke if Feliani is named.

Mkhitaryan has been on the left. He played there against Feyenoord. Other players include Lingard and Rashford, who I wouldn't say are anymore out of favour then Martial. Actually, Lingard and Rashford started our last league game.

On ability, Martial walks into that position, but it hasn't exactly been plain sailing for Martial this season, and he's had to earn his starts.

Rooney and Mkhitaryan both had fantastic games against Feyenoord and weren't in the team against West Ham in the league, despite most people thinking they would be. What I'm saying is, although Martial had a good game against West Ham, I don't think it's enough in Mourinho's mind to say he's a nailed on starter.

I think it depends on how Mourinho wants to play. Martial got a lot of ball deeper in the half than he has usually been playing. I think Martial's tail is up and he wants the ball more, rather than doing his defensive work and then waiting out wide for the ball to come to him.

I think we'll play this game on the counter so I see Martial starting and if he can replicate with Mkhi the way we played during the week he'll play well and get a lot of chances. He played well last season at Goodison playing the same way against Coleman, I think he got fouled in the leadup to that sublime Herrera header as well.

Think we are playing too well to not score 3 or more goals especially if Martial, Micataryan(i know thats not how you spell his name) and Zlatan keeps up their form.

I'd really love to see Mata and Miki to start playing together...the creativity could be devastating to opposing sides.

We could be going into this game 11 points off 4th place. That'll put us under even further pressure and I can only see another draw as a result.
