Everton Football Club (nicknamed The Toffees and The Blues) are a professional football club based in Liverpool, England. Everton were founded as St Domingo FC in 1878 so that members of the congregation of St Domingo Methodist New Connexion Chapel in Breckfield Road North, Everton could play sport year round – cricket was played in summer. The club's first game was a 1–0 victory over Everton Church Club. The club was renamed Everton in November 1879 after the local area, as people outside the congregation wished to participate. The club was a founding member of the Football League in 1888–89 and won their first League Championship title in the 1890–91 season. Everton won the FA Cup for the first time in 1906 and the League Championship again in 1914–15. The outbreak of the First World War in 1914 interrupted the football programme while Everton were champions, which was something that would again occur in 1939.

It was not until 1927 that Everton's first sustained period of success began. In 1925 the club signed Dixie Dean from Tranmere Rovers. In 1927–28, Dean set the record for top-flight league goals in a single season with 60 goals in 39 league games, which is a record that still stands. He helped Everton win their third League Championship that season. Everton's second successful era started when Harry Catterick was made manager in 1961. In 1962–63, his second season in charge, Everton won the League Championship. In 1966 the club won the FA Cup with a 3–2 win over Sheffield Wednesday. Everton again reached the final in 1968, but this time were unable to overcome West Bromwich Albion at Wembley. Two seasons later in 1969–70, Everton won the League Championship, finishing nine points clear of nearest rivals Leeds United. During this period, Everton were the first English club to achieve five consecutive years in European competitions – covering the seasons from 1961–62 to 1966–67. Howard Kendall took over as manager and guided Everton to their most successful era. Domestically, Everton won the FA Cup in 1984 and two League Championships in 1984–85 and 1986–87. In Europe, the club won its first, and so far only, European trophy by securing the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1985.

All in all, Everton have won 15 major trophies: the League Championship nine times (fourth most as of 2017–18), the FA Cup five times (ninth most) and the UEFA Cup Winners Cup once. The club have also competed in the top division for a record 114 seasons, missing the top division only four times (1930–31 and three consecutive seasons starting with 1951–52). Everton have play their homes games at Goodison Park since 1892, after moving from Anfield following a row over its rent. Their biggest rivals are neighbors Liverpool, against whom they contest the Merseryside Derby.

Seasons over if we don’t win in my opinion. OGS simply has to win every league game to stand a chance of Top 4 now.

It doesn’t look promising since yet again, we look like we’re dragging ourselves and limping over the line into the summer. No semblance of momentum in the team and no individual player is on form again.

    Rashford
    Periera Pogba Mata
    Fred McTominay
    Shaw Lindelof Jones Dalot

Seeing as we don't play with width, we may as well play with wide attacking midfielders, who find pockets of space in between the lines. Going forward, we'd need to replace Mata and Periera, but those are the style of players we should be looking for, in that they look to come inside and create, as opposed to wingers.

Matic and Sanchez to come in possibly. At least this is Shaw's last ban and he'll be back for City.

Wonder if tonight has affected the morale of the players.:nervous:

To use the famous Star Wars line, I have a bad feeling about this.

Nothing is really working right now, we don't have a single forward in any form, so I'd try the below line-up.

I will gladly take starting with 10 men than have to see Young put on a United shirt one more time.

Darmian and Young as our fullbacks while we play Dalot out of position? In a must-win game?

    Brilliant!

Well it seems to me that Ole prefers Dalot as a winger than a fullback and we both know Young is goiing to start, I never pick fantasy teams. The reason I picked Darmian is that our other LB option is Rojo, who is crap.

Look, I get it, but you've gotta have hope!

Maybe Ole will see the light re Young. Raise your gaze from the gutter to the stars, my friend. Hope!

Think people have lost sight of where we were. If we can get top 4 it will have been a monumental success from where we were in December. Champions league was just a bonus and no surprise we are far off the top teams in Europe. Finish the season with momentum and get top 4 would be over achieving for what was expected of ole and give a good platform for the most important summer in years

    De Gea
    Dalot
    Lindelof
    Smalling
    Shaw

    Mctominay
    Fred
    Pogba

    Lingard
    Lukaku
    Sanchez

Young rashford martial all need time out 9f team.

For every match Ashley Young plays from now on, I’m going to kill a puppy.

If he plays 2-0 to Everton. If he doesn’t, we’ll win 2-1

Hope Laird, Williams and O'Connor are involved. They maybe young but our other options for fullback is just so depressing.

Shaw is suspended, Young will play again. Hopefully we win the game and it's his last start of the season for us, but I doubt it.

I am happy with any lineup which doesn't have Young in it.

This is another crunch game and since the patting on the back after the PSG game, we have been awful in all the games that matter. Arsenal away (not awful but careless), Wolves in the cup and league, Barcelona home and away. Scraped through WHU. I am annoyed that these players busted a gut to get Ole the job but have now stopped playing. There could be a number of reasons for this that we do not get to see behind the scenes, who knows.

Our captain is not good enough/leaving and our vice captain is the worst player at the club. You couldn't make this up.

Anyone going to this? It's my first trip to Goodison and I'm quite concerned that my ticket says obstructed view, despite being in the lower section

I know it's an old stadium and the roof is low, but praying I'm not in front of a massive pillar!

Season is finished if we lose..
