Everton - CSKA - City. This is where LVG earns his pay; going to have to rotate in such a way that we keep ourselves fresh for all three games.

We have to play 3 central midfielders otherwise its going to be Arsenal all over again.

If we play with 2 CMs again, we'll get beat. It's that simple.

    De Gea

    Darmian
    Smalling
    Rojo
    Blind

    Schneiderlin
    Herrera
    Fellaini

    Mata
    Martial
    Young

My team. Don't fancy Lukaku on Blind.
Need energy against them so Carrick/BFS switched out for Schneiderlin and Herrera. Fellaini to be the deep lying target man midfielder like last season

Get the lead and then bring BFS/Carrick to see it out.

But I expect Rooney and Depay to keep their places:(

We have been awful in away games under Van Gaal since he arrived but pretty decent at home...today was the first real test for our defense and it was shown up to be nowhere near as good as the media were saying......I absolutely expect Everton to win this one

Are the people posting lineups featuring Rooney doing so because they want to see him play or because they expect to?

    Schneiderlin
    Herrera Bastian
    Mata Martial Pereira

    What I'd play:

    De Gea
    Darmian - Smalling - Jones - Blind
    Carrick
    Herrera - Fellaini
    Martial - Rooney - Young
    • Pace in wide areas
    • Running in behind
    • Rooney as a false 9, making a diamond, whilst Martial and Young play as wide forwards
    • Fellaini to be an option if Everton press high up. If not, play out with Carrick and Herrera dropping deep to control the game

    EDIT:

    De Gea
    Darmian - Smalling - Jones - Blind
    Carrick
    Herrera - Fellaini
    Mata - Rooney - Martial

    I'd go with:

    De Gea
    Valencia---Smalling---Jones---Blind
    Schneiderlin
    Schweinsteiger---Herrera
    Mata---Martial---Young

We need to go with a defensive mindset, so I'd look to play with pace on the counterattack. Blind is a more solid fullback than Young (obviously) so I'd reunite Smalling and Jones. Valencia and Darmian was the main question in my mind, but I think we'd benefit more from the width Valencia provides, since we have a midfield that should be able to cover at fullback if needed.

And no Rooney. For obvious reasons.

They always come out flying against us at Goodison, it could be a start like against Arsenal.
We need to match their passion to get the three points from here, but i'm doubting it to be honest.

    My team would be:

    DdG
    Damo Smalling Jones Blind
    Morgan
    JMata Herrera Schweini Young
    Martial
This is exactly the team we should play, but Rooney will start and I expect he'll keep Blind at CB.

If Herrera plays, he needs to overlap Mata on the wing. Darmian isn't doing it and he is not that great going forwards anyway.

Everton dont have enough players with the skill levels that Arse used to tear us a new one. We will knock them over.

I hope Herrera is back. I know Rooney isn't going to be dropped so shift him wide left and play Herrera as part of a three in midfield.

    Yep sure do.
our recent records at goodison park have been generally poor so I'm not confident. plus in the last outing they thoroughly beat us 3-0.

hope this changes in 2 weeks. (operative word being hope, of course)

    De Gea

    Darmian Smalling Jones Blind

    Schneiderlin

    Schweinsteiger Herrera

    Mata------------------------Young

    Martial
This is the team I'd play (injury permitting) even though we all know that it's not going to be because Rooney won't be dropped seemingly under any circumstance bar fitness.

Not completely happy with having Mata out on the right, but he's been in good form recently and has to start plus it's abundantly clear we need to play 4-3-3 at the moment. Jones would come in for Blind who'd have a torrid time against Lukaku if he continues to play centre back. Young would look build up the partnership on the left with him that was effective at the back end of last season whilst offering defensive support that was sorely lacking from Memphis in that first half today. Darmian had a bit of a mare against Sanchez to put it politely but he's generally played well up until now and with proper protection from a DM he should be fine. Not sure Valencia would do any better anyway. If Herrera's not fully fit then Carrick takes his place. Martial picks himself obviously.

Yep but we are quite a different side to when we played them last (ignoring yesterdays effort.). I think we have better players and they will be wanting to atone for the Arse effort.

You are in for a rude awakening then. You must have missed out what they did to us last season and what they did to Chelsea not too long ago.

We are quite a different proposition from last season and lets also remember they got Chelsea at the worst Chelsea have been in donkeys years. Sure it will be tough but I think we have the better squad and better players.

We should keep more or less the same team that started yesterday. The 3 goals were freak ones. I doubt we'll concede that many that early ever again.

Play passively, and it will be a sad afternoon. Match them physically, don't take any shit. I hate this game away to Everton, the sooner it's over the better.

Everton will try to do the same thing Arsenal did, attack very fiercely in the first 30-35 minutes. I worry about Lukaku coming up Blind.
