  • Sesko has to start for me but its not looking like it is it? They’re a big physical team, could use his hold up play. They’re just going to sit in and defend so I would play:

    Lammens
    Dalot Yoro (won’t happen) Martinez Shaw
    Tielemans Kobbie
    Bruno
    Mbeumo Sesko Cunha

    What I think he’ll do is have Maguire instead of Yoro, possibly Santos instead of Tielemans and Rashford again over Sesko.
     
    We'll take an early lead through a Cunha strike, after some lovely build up play between Bruno and Tielemens.
    Everton will then take control of the tie and force Lammens into a number of good saves, the pick of the bunch will be from a Barry header. However we'll go into the break in front.
    Second half, we miss a great chance to double our advantage but Mbeumo flashes one wide after Bruno plays him in.
    Not long after, Everton equalises after a defensive error from Dalot who gives the ball away and the ball ends up with Hayden Hackney slotting in from close range.
    With 15 minutes left, Everton look the most likely to find a winner but United hold on and pick up their first draw of the season. It finishes Everton 1 Manchester United 1.

    Since 2000 our form against them is 35W-13D-9L

    Our form against them over the last 15 matches 9W-4D-2L

    Our form the last 10 matches at Goodison 6W-2D-2L

    Our 2 loses there in that span were in April 2022 and April 2019

    A full 7 days of rest, so no rotation on the basis of players needing rest for Everton, although we have Sabah four days later, though it's at OT. We do want and I would say need to stamp our boots on the neck of Sabah so there may be some unexpected player management for Everton.

    Cunha put in a decent shift up top for us against admittedly lowly Ipswich, changing it up with Rashford from time to time pretty effectively I thought. I assume Amad and Mount are still out, but even if they are in they're in no position to start.

    That leaves us with midfield and Santos should get the start over Tielemans.

    Even if Hall is helicoptered onto the center circle tomorrow morning, which is highly unlikely, Shaw gets the start.
     
    Wouldn't mind seeing Santos start again for Tielemans, but otherwise I'd go with the same team. Carrick clearly doesnt think Sesko is ready yet after no pre-season and I trust him. Give him 20-30 minutes in the second-half, and hopefully he'll be ready to start against City.
     
    Feels like a draw this.

    I'd probably go with the same team as Sunday for continuity.
     
    Remember last season where they dominated us with corners and we won 1-0… wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a similar game here
     
    I’d rather Rashford than both Cunha and Mbuemo. I feel like his crosses are more dangerous and he brings a different type of attack.


    Graelish is gonna be on one (meaning he’s gonna be buzzing) so we need to mark him out of this game. The American is dangerous as well if he starts. If we play compact they won’t score though. Wonder if that’s the style to play against these types at home. If they get a lucky goal it’ll feel like 15 men behind the ball

    I remember them going down to 10 very early on and we still managed to lose 1-0... at home.
     
    It's always good to get Everton away out of the way early. Though I do think we have a good record there in recent years.
     
    I think we will lose this, a draw at best. Our poor starts to games which seem to have been going on for over a decade now will cost us again.
     
    This is going to be a big test and a tough game and the most important thing would be to match the intensity.
    Think we were slow the game at Hull and the first 30 mins on Saturday, probably because of match fitness, but it will be really important to be able to fight, especially in midfield.
    Don't think we will see much rotation (we play Sabah in CL on Thursday and then City on Sunday)

    • Dalot deserves to stay in team after today but good to see Yoro get minutes and play well
    • Shaw has to stay in as I don’t think Carrick will play Heaven or Dorgu there and probably shouldn’t away to Everton, it will be hostile.
    • Tielemens needs game time and can play those quick passes on the counter.
    • Front four stay the same in different positions.

    Why would you want to change the positions when they did well last game? Also, when has Rashford ever played well on the right?

    Surely you can’t predict subs? Wouldn’t you make a sub based on performance and what the team needs?

    I can see us struggle. Maguire is too slow and would replace him with Yoro, but overall I think this will be our line up

    Think overall we'll play deep most of the game, trying to let them come to us and Everton, with Tarkowski and Branthwaite, (even Beto, O'Brien) are handfull on set pieces.
     
    Probably going to be the same XI as Ipswich. Everton have started the season well. No Ndiaye but they'll probably start Grealish who will also cause problems. Garner, Hackney, and Dewsbury-Hall look to be a good midfield trio. Please win.

    It’s quite easy to defend against Grealish. He just slows the ball down all the time. Dewsbury Hall will cause us problems.
     
    In order to protect our weaknesses and avoid players who are not properly match fit or sharp, I would go with:

    Lammens
    Dalot Yoro Martinez Maz
    Santos Mainoo
    Lacey Bruno Cunha/Rashford
    Mbeumo

    Maz did well in this and last World Cup, Shaw is in poor form or has lost his legs. Yoro to inject some pace into the back two so can play a bit higher line.

    Santos did excellent in pre-season, Tielemens isn't at all fit or sharp. Really curious to see the Santos Mainoo combination anyway. Should give a lot more stability.

    Mbeumo I favour over Cunha up front, as do many I think, and so Cunha and Rashford can play a half each -- they seem to be similar in fitness terms. Let them battle for their place. Lacey had a good pre-season and is more natural on the right than Rashford (who has never played well there).

    Once we get players back from injury or back up to match fitness (done in training not just in matches where they are liabilities) then of course Baleba, Sesko, De Ligt, come in.

    One half decent game by Rashford and everyone wants him back in the team. I figured we were putting him in the shop window and he'll be out of the team before long. Were playing a moyes team so its not like there'll be space in behind.
     
    Only chance I’d make would be Santos in for Tielemans.

    Already feels this is a pretty crucial match for our season. If we lose, it’s an early crisis. If we win, the poor result against Hull will be well behind us.
     
    Is stick yoro RB and move Dorgu to LB. Itd allow us to let Dorgu get higher up the pitch and still potentially have 3 CBs still defending. Then keep the same rest of the team as last week
     
    This is the first(of many) games where Carrick would need to take into account of the midweek match

    Ideally, we will put out a lineup that is just marginally strong enough to beat both Everton and Sabah, instead of the strongest possible against Everton and rotate entirely against Sabah and hope for the best. I would rather we beat both of them 1-0 than smashing Everton 5-0 but then draw to Sabah 1-1

    My take would be(assuming we have no one coming back from injuries)

    Hopefully a toxic atmosphere if we score first or dominate the play. Everton fans are really pissed off.
     
    Feel like we need to see Dorgu at LB at some stage before the mid-week games start, or maybe to instantly contradict that, we wait for a mid-week game to try it out.

    But it's a shame that Shaw has made a few mistakes already which have lead to goals...so to continue the contradictions, he needs a good performance.
