Balancing act to be done here as the Spurs match is important as well - get a win there and we are more or less guaranteed UCL and can focus entirely on Uefa from then onwards. However, some of the reserve teams posted above are madness. We still need a decent performance as this is the only trophy we can still win.

Rest Rashford, Shaw and Lindelöf in my view but otherwise go full strength.

I'm a bit torn here. Want to get a strong result away, so we have the best chance possible of going through, but also want to rest key players for Tottenham - we need to get Jose back for the 1-6 earlier this season.

Would go for something like this:

    Henderson
    AWB - Bailly - Maguire - Telles
    McTominay - Pogba
    Mata - Bruno - James
    Greenwood
Rashford, Shaw and Lindelöf rested. Hopefully we get 1-2 away goals and are able to take off Pogba and Bruno. 2-0 win!

A good chance to rest a few with the weekend and revenge in mind. I'd like to see Rashford rested for this one, Shaw as well. Give Telles, DvB and Matic minutes here. It would be nice to get 2-0 up and bring Bruno off. Hopefully we kill the tie in this game.

Would like us to field a strong team (but not start Rash).

Almost don't care about the weekend game. Winning it is nice, but losing twice to Spurs would not matter to me if it ends up keeping chelski or pool out of the CL/EL.

Eric has Covid. Didn’t travel. Lindelof will have to play I think, because Tuanzebe is not good enough.

I think they'll be a few changes, but I'd rather we go really strong. The main change I'd want is James in for Rashford from the start.

We can make a lot of substitutions, so I don't see much issue with starting Shaw, Pogba, Bruno, Greenwood and Cavani as we could potentially sub them all off early if we can get a commanding lead.

I personally think a 2-1 defeat or anything better than that would be enough for us to advance. I'd be pretty confident of turning it around at Old Trafford if we got an away goal.

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.
    He has a valid point.

Even in the good old days of Ferguson United had to take a few group stage champions exits on chin and were knocked out of uefa Cup/Europa League by the likes of Athletic Bilbao, Rotor Volgograd, Torpedo Moscow.
That Bilbao team under Bielsa weren’t underdogs were they? The other two yeah but that was in the early days of SAF.

Granada were only promoted to La Liga a couple years ago and have been leaking goals this season. Their defensive record in Europa has been better but Man Utd should really be going home with a comfortable win tonight.

Really good opportunity to put this tie away tonight. Granada are in pretty appalling form at the moment and we are a far stronger team. As far as the weekend goes I'd happily take a strong win here and a snoozy 0-0 at Spurs, which we are more than capable of doing, so I see no reason to rest anybody. Got a feeling Amad will start though

Ah, didn't realize. I would agree that Lindelöf should play then, but it is not ideal with his back problems.

Someone please explain to me why we have 4 keepers in the squad when we have the likes of Hannibal not traveling.
From memory Hannibal wasn't included in the squad list we have for Europe and (unlike Elanga and Shoretire) hasn't been at the club long enough to be classed as a youth player we can take for free. Something like that anyway. He'll only be able to play in the domestic league/cups.

And a partridge in a pear tree...

Four goalkeepers. One starter, one backup, one thank-you-for-your-service-here's-a-free-trip-to-Spain, and one come-along-and-get-a-feel-for-this-because-you'll-be-the-backup-soon.
    Good shout.

Could admins please add Elanga to the selection options? He’s with the squad so might play

Personally I’d like to see Axel at right back. We need an alternative to AWB and I felt he played well there at Everton in the league cup earlier in the season. Think Donny will get another start with Cavani as well and Rashford on the bench.

    Henderson
    Tuanzebe Lindelof Maguire Telles
    McTominay Van De Beek Fred
    Greenwood Cavani James

Spot on. Its a quarter final, let's field a good team and hammer them, get the tie sewn up.

But we have Spurs three days later... So what? They are 11 points behind us and yes they battered us at the start of the season, but I still would back us to win. It isn't a must win game either.
    Exactly.
And it is not only about this trophy. People saying it is in the shadow of the CL. Absolutely, but winning EL is how you train and prepare the team for success in the CL. International cup football is not the same as domestic league football.

Based on this year, Spurs match has 0-0 written all over it.

Rest Rashford, Bruno and Shaw, otherwise full strength. If we struggle bring couple of them on with 30 minutes to go, if we wrap it up, take off Cavani, Pogba and AWB.
Rashford yes, id 100% start Bruno and Shaw though. Cant afford to mess up this leg. Dominate and secure the tie

Fair enough. I hope it's an only possible option type thing.

    DDG
    Tuanzabe - Lindelof - Maguire - Telles
    MCT - Pogba
    Amad - VDB - James
    Greenwood

    That would be my choice.

What the hell should we rest anyone now for apart from maybe Rashford? For the Euros? We will be bloody tired against Spurs anyway, but we can afford to drop points in the league. Play the best team today.

Don’t recognise anyone in that Granada team other than Gonalons, Kenedy & Soldado.

Similar to the Real Sociedad tie, play our strongest side and get this tie won in the 1st leg.
wanna take a bet that Soldado scores? we have a great habit of making has-beens look like Ballon d'Or winners!

Correct. Chelsea won it a couple of years ago and are set for a semi final in CL, and atletico won a couple in advance of getting to two CL finals. Any big game experience is good experience
