Leicester was Mourinho's last game for Chelsea before he got sacked and now his first competitive game for us. How fitting if Mourinho beat Ranieri to the trophy. I'm sure he would want to win this match even though it's just a Community Shield. At the end of the day, this is still still a recognized trophy and if I remember correctly, he only won it like once.

Well he said he wants to play well and he wants to win everything...so no better place to start than the Charity Shield. I really hope he takes the Europa seriously as well.

I know this is looked upon as a pre-season game. But it would really be great if we won it. Yes, Moyes won the charity shield but with Mourinho theres a sense of the right man for the right job. It would be great to get a great start and make sure Mourinho/and our players get their confidence back after a very sub par last season.

We should put out our strongest team, a week is enough to rest for the Bournemouth game.

    you couldn't beat us either
You're missing the point a little there.

The point is that you just had your best season in history, whereas we had a mediocre one, often branded "rubbish".
Yet we didn't lose to the champions either game.

if that's all you boil a season down to fair enough but you sound like Arsenal fans who say they were the better team as they beat us twice...

Of course. Our season actually boiled down to a horribly laboured possession at all costs strategy, which brought us the highest tally of goalless games I can remember at OT. VG sucked the life out of our attack, which is why a combo of 3 new forward players plus the Mourinho effect promises great things.

Did anybody see the game with Leicester against PSG? a 4-0 loss is the worst they've had in almost 2 years. Was it as bad as it sounded?

no not really, at 1-0 we could have scored a couple of goals then gave away 3 sloppy goals, also started Ulloa and Okazaki upfront and Vardy wasn't involved at all, Kasper Schmeichel is having a really poor preseason and he played the full 90, I expect that Zieler will play the full 90 Vs Barca on Wednesday

I'm sure Smalling won't be starting. He is recovering from an injury. I'm also expecting Carrick to be in the first XI alongside Schneiderlin or Fellaini. I agree with the rest of the line-up.

If we're talking should, rather than will, then Miki should be central and Rashford on the right (and Rooney on the bench). Everything makes much more sense that way.

    perhaps Blind lads.

But Mourinho likes to play players in their normal positions.
To be fair, Blind probably played more games at CB last year for us than Jones has started in his entire United career. :p

Jones was pretty much injured the entire season. I think he is definitely part of the 24 player squad. It may end up that Smalling and Baiily will be the preferred partnership. But I feel sure Jose will give Jones his chance.

Yeah, agreed. I was just kidding around about Jones' past injury problems and the fact Blind and Smalling started the most games together for United since 98/99 (Schmeichel). Even more impressive is that it was 94/95 that the last time an outfield player (Pallister) made more appearances.

I just hope they still have Mahrez by then. I'll be fecking fuming if he moves and it's not to us.
We've just spent a fair amount of money on Mkhy, with either Rooney or Pogba in the centre. So definitely couldn't see a Mahrez move

A strong squad for the upcoming season. Should be better with Smalling and Pogba to come in.

I think people are overreacting too much over the testimonial, the players were likely told to not put too much effort in for the game on Sunday since it's a bigger priority. Don't people realise it was a testimonial? Their always a bit shit.

That Rooney testimonial has sucked away any excitement I had for this game.

As Mourinho said himself, he's not a friendly man, he wants the real action to start. I personally don't think the action will start for quite sometime into the season, as LVG's influence is still strong by the looks of things. Along with our squad still containing players that are gone stale or simply not good enough to begin with. Even with our signings this summer, I still think Mourinho has a hell of a job ahead of him.

Leicester City Football Club - nicknamed The Foxes, The Blues, City, and Blue Army - are a professional football club based in Leicester; and were founded in 1884 by a group of old boys of Wyggeston School as Leicester Fosse, before joining the Football Association in 1890. In 1919, when League football resumed after World War I, Leicester Fosse ceased trading due to financial difficulties of which little is known. The club was reformed as Leicester City Football Club, particularly appropriate as the borough of Leicester had recently been given city status. Leicester City are the current champions of the English First division - the first title win in club history, after enjoying only moderate success through the years - winning 3 League Cups, and reaching the final of the FA Cup 4 times. Watford's most prominent rivalries are with fellow Nottingham Forest, Coventry City and Derby County; and they have been playing their home games at The King Power Stadium (originally named Filbert Way) since 2002.

I think we will thump them....4-0 something like that.
I cant see anything other than them seriously struggling this year.
That might well be the narrative over the course of the season, but don't think you can reasonably expect them to be any worse off for the initial two three month period. The euphoria of winning the title should stand them in good stead for those initial games. I would go for a 1-1 draw, us winning on penalties.

I agree, and I'm not expecting as much as others as well, but I'm still excited personally. The start of a new era!
