How Ole has setup Rashford is so embarrassing. We should have him on the wing with martial in the middle holding it up.

People saying Martial should be hooked off are mad. One of the few players who actually retain the ball and do something useful with it. It's just unfortunate he hasn't gotten much of it because our midfield is appealing so far(on the ball).

Martial, Pogba and Shaw have been good. Competent on the ball. Rashford problem this half were his runs. He got caught one too many times in offside traps. He need to check them. Bruno has been pretty poor. Feel like I can't recall him competing a pass, always giving the ball away which doesn't help us given we already have few of the ball.

McTomminay situation with his ball playing abilities is a problem. So poor on the ball.

Bruno has lost his cool head and is rushing things. I would actually consider taking him off, get VdB on and push Pogba further up.
He has been poor but he also has the quality to win us the game with a single kick, something I can't say of VdB.

Our problem is that our midfielders are being pressed out of the game and they don't have the technique and composure to deal with it. That's why Bruno feels the need to try risky passes to make something happen because we have no control of the game.

I would change to 4-3-3, push Pogba back to midfield, and bring on Matic in the place of McT.

Glad we rode those first 30 minutes out, we grew a little but not enough.

Fred and McTominay do a good job, but I feel we need better quality in that area.
Agree. Better quality would make a difference. I think whilst Bruno clearly is massive for us, he offers nothing when it comes to retaining the ball.

We were terrible in that half. Souness is right. Could easily have been 2-0 down. Not sure why we aren’t playing Bailly. Rashford should play on the left and bring Greenwood or Cavani as an inside right.

Quite a lot for them is coming through Thiago, need to try and nullify him a bit

If we could stay onside it would be great, need to make more of the ball when we have it

Not sure how I'd change this, either put another in midfield but who do you sacrifice, or do we go 5 at the back and push Shaw and AWB up the pitch to pin back Trent and Robertson? It almost looks like Tony is playing in midfield?

I'm afraid if Ole doesn't react quickly, this will go the way of the City game in the cup.

Sorry but Ole's tactic is wrong today.

We are only playing safe, counter and hopefully a corner or set piece. That's an absolute shame.

Mc Tominay can't do much today, so as Bruno.

To be honest, if we are going to have only 25% of the ball, whether we play 532, or dont play Bruno at all. He's absolutely useless in this system, only chasing shadows.

What is important, after good defending, is of course the use of the ball and only Fred and Pogba can do it, our full back are always too deep, Mc Tominay hides, Bruno really bad today. So it leaves only Fred, Pogba and Rashford to use the ball.

Ole is afraid and if Pool scores, what will we do ? Long ball to Rashford ?

Let's be honest, that first half hasn't gone much different than what what most thought! We cant pass out of the back or in the final third and Liv have been shocking in front of goal!

Out of the two possibilities of us improving our passing or liv taking their chances sec half...this game has a defeat written all over it.

It's ridiculous. It's like he doesnt know it's a rule.
Not all Rashford's fault. For example, AWB waited too long. The one that really bothered me was Martial on the left because he can see all the defenders and it's not too hard to stay on.

feeling the same. worried if we give a way a stupid goal. sticking to my prediction of losing 2-0 (three if we fall apart)

Pretty much, add that to Lindelof for some reason has started and our defense looks very shaky as a result and are afraid to push up. The midfield also don't have the luxury of pushing up high as they are covering for our defense.

Basically, the team selection is a bit bizarre all around.
You can’t say the team selection is bizarre when 90% of the posters predicted 10/11 in the starting lineup!
If anything, the lineup was expected and Klopp knew how we’d set up, so altered his tactics to beat our strengths

They've bossed possession but not really cut the defence open or created any real clear cut chances.

Too rushed on the counter with the ball, somebody needs to put their foot on it now and again and take control of it and hold onto it for a bit. Instead of hooking it forward and it coming straight back.
Indeed United ‘hanging on‘ is bollocks. Liverpool’s xG will be low from that half.

Inclined to agree. We need a footballer in there. Just look at Thiago in the same role and the difference is stark.
Exactly. Especially with Bruno basically playing centre forward we can’t afford to play with these two they offer nothing on the ball & even the stuff they are supposed to be good at (tackling, interception etc) they aren’t doing.

Growing into it, we’re a million miles away from them on the ball and need to calm down but definitely better as it went on.

At some point people will realise the inherent handicap of playing such a comically limited player in AWB - in an era where full-backs are vital outlets in both the possession and attacking phases.

McTom and Fred are a distinctly average CM pairing. This needs to be improved on.

Ole needs to show some balls and go for it. If you wanna win the league you need to go to places like Anfield and get a result.
I thought they were horrible to begin with, two headless chickens everywhere but nowhere (which the whole team was tbf), but they've grown into the game as it's gone on.

Whether we need Pogba to come inside to conduct the play more, or someone like Van de Beek i'm not sure, but It feels like we need more in the middle if we're to get a result here.

100% agreed on the Ole needing to show balls here. We're way too nice. They're there for the taking if we play our cards right, and can rattle them.

I think tactics are correct. We look dangerous on the counter and Bruno needs just one ball to pass correctly and we're cruising.

Some of you on here must be new to football.
We are playing the champs at their ground and the champs are Liverpool.
Its a typical United/Pool game. Intense, scrappy, not many chances, everyone trying hard but inhibited by the importance of the game.
We are doing OK. Defending reasonably well, just need to create more and take the chance when it comes. As it will.
They've had twice the possession and nine shots to our one. I dont think that's typical.

We need to do better or hope they keep screwing up at the last second.

That was poor. Very very poor. Its just not working. And it quite clearly wasn't working very soon into the half. Okay we looked marginally better in the second half, but it's nowhere close to being good enough.

We look shit scared of them as evidenced by the fact we can't string 2 passed together. Everything just looks so rushed and like they're playing on the edge. The amount of misplaced passes and offsides was beyond belief.

We need to make a change to how we're going to play in this second half. Forget this defensive counter stuff. Our defense is our weakest area. They have figured out our counter attack. Put Cavani on. Play it into him and put their makeshift defense under some pressure!

What about donny with his smart quick passing to unlock them?

Cavani for his movement and physicality.

these changes could make the difference

They are absolutely dogshit and nothing to fear, but the frustrating thing is, we are having a ‘mare ourselves here. Liverpool’s press was always going to tire and for the last ten minutes of the first half, we had far more joy playing out from the back and through the lines.

Get to the 65/70th minute still in the game and I believe we can kick for home if we make the correct changes. Cavani is a must and his movement and game intelligence will cause Liverpool’s make-shift defence some issues.

I also wouldn’t be averse to introducing Matic for McTominay, who has struggled a bit so far. Matic is far more press-resistant than McTominay and I’m fearful of us getting turned over in a dangerous area unnecessarily.

Last year,Ole had a template to handle Liverpool by containing the full backs . It's entirely different this year and they are getting lot of spaces. Not sure why he has moved away from it.
Mentality, let them worry about us a bit too.

I can see why Matic maybe should come on, can see Matic, Cavani and Greenwood coming on in second half for martial Fred and mctominay.

I thought McTominay grew into the game and had a decent last 10 minutes of the half to be fair to him. But himself, Fred and Bruno were awful in that first 20. We can't afford another spell like that or they'll punish us.

Stay calm and be more accurate on the break and we can hurt these.

We love to handicap ourselves, just look at the midfield pair we have selected for today.
