No idea how this will go.

Really depends on how both teams turn up on the day I think. I know that sounds bleeding obvious but I just think United could put out a side that could win and also that same side could get hammered depending on how they go about it.

Logically, City will be winning it. Probably comfortably. Hopefully we are competitive in comparison to last season's nightmare.

Moscow scored 2 against City and so did West Ham, we're more then capable of matching that and bettering it.

Need to keep tight at the back and we could win a high scoring thriller.

Would really like to see us go in with the diamond with Ander and Rooney back into the side. Fellaini as the #10, and we just harry and press them until their weak defence cracks (preferably before ours).

This is quite clearly the front six needed, I'll be surprised if many think otherwise, apart from maybe preferring Falcao to one of Rooney/RVP. With Blind on Silva and Fellaini on Toure, I think we can match them quite well in midfield unlike most of our previous encounters.
Luckily for us Toure hasn't been in great form either, whilst Fellaini seems to be resembling some - or he'll accelerate away from Blind/Fellaini with relative ease IMO.

Agreed. At best, I'd maybe swap Carrick in there for Fellaini (though he deserves to start) because Carrick can use the ball better if we're playing a counter attacking system. But Carrick hasn't had any minutes so it's a tall order. We'll probably go with the front 6 mentioned.

I think Di Maria would be better as CM. The last two games as a winger Di Maria hadn't impress. Agree that Fellaini deserves to start. Maybe a diamond of Blind, Fellaini, Di Maria and Herrera (If he's fit) with Rooney and Falcao/RVP up front.
i would go with this too. We can cope with them on physicality and on creativity. Really think we could even win against them. We`ll see on sunday.

The Line up? God only knows. Has it ever been more difficult to predict? Especially with Rooney back from suspension and Herrera being more fit. Falcao? I worry about this guy.

Fellaini has to start, he deserves it (don't make me get the "leg" pictures out again). Rooney has to start ahead of Mata, who I am seriously wondering if he has a future here, which is kind of sad as he clearly has talent and is a likeable guy. Di Maria is a shoe in too, had a poor game by his standards but still manages to be influential, that what the great players do, like RVP.

City will be up for it, they always are. I'd take a point quite happily.

I think that team can beat them. We'll need Rooney in and around the midfield to make it a trio in there, with Angel as the runner. That front two can cause them problems.

I'm surprised you would drop Blind for this. Especially considering your username :p. I think an away game at a big side is just the game you want Blind in there for.

Next sunday you will quote this reply :

    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Smalling - Shaw
    Blind
    ADM - Fellaini - Rooney - Januzaj
    RVP

    De Gea
    Rafa Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera. Di Maria
    Fellaini
    Rvp. Rooney

Like many others this is the team I think we'll see on Sunday.Same backline as yesterday, probably our only fit senior players anyway.

Blind in the holding role behind 3 box to box cms in Herrera,Di Maria and Fellaini.Having good workers like Herrera and Di Maria in the middle of the diamond will help our fullbacks and hopefully nullify City's wide threat.

With Rooney also dropping back at time and running around like a maniac, we are properly set up to get in City's face and choke the midfiled area.

Up top RVP will often be the lone man ahead of the ball.We are going to need a great game from him, holding up the play on the counter and taking his chances when he gets them.

We will also hopefully have a strong bench to call on in the second half.If we are in need of a goal we have Falcao and Januzaj to come on and if we need to protect a lead we have Carrick.

It's going to be a tough game, despite recent struggles City will be on top form against us.However I believe we finally have the midfield to stand up to City and I am confident we can get a result.
    2-1 United (Di Maria,Rooney)(Aguero)

Still think that the 4-1-4-1 suits us more in the big games.

I still think that the space between our midfielders and our defenders is the key when playing City and we should play the counter like we did 2 years ago. We should expose Kompany and Mangala to our pace.

City's more dangerous than Chelsea because I think that they're better individually, and can make the difference in that way. We are weak as a team and even more individually so it's gonna be tough.

Man to mark is David Silva, and Aguero, I would like to play Herrera to cope with Silva's activity too, but Fellaini's presence will be an asset against Touré, Kompany and Mangala

I wonder if we've stumbled across the best formation simply by who has been unavailable the last few games.

Namely 1 up front, Di Maria in probably his most effective position, and Januzaj the other side.

    On sunday meaning

    De Gea
    Rafael Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Blind Fellaini

    Januzaj Rooney Di Maria
    VP

Curious how we lineup for this.

Think we can beat them if LVG gets it right tactically actually.
From what we saw against Chelsea, LVG is quite astute. It was obvious that DM was put on the right as Luiz was their weak spot, and if DM played on the left Ivanovic would have put him in row Z.

It didn't work, as DM didn't play well on the right. Late in the game DM did play on the left and it improved us. Chelsea sat back, but both Adnan and DM started to be more productive.

Fellani on Fabregas was also well played.

Not a lot we can do with Augero, but watch his runs. It is Toure and Silva that we will have to watch. I think Adnan may lose his place with Herrera coming in to the side, with Rooney replacing Mata. Not sure Falcao will start.

See this being a high scoring draw (2-2) with City getting a late equalizer.

Would rather see Di Maria on the left vs Clichy/Kolarov both are significantly weaker than Zabaleta. Back 4 picks itself doubt LVG makes any changes after Sunday.

What I would like to see:
    ---------------De Gea--------------
    Rafael----Smalling----Rojo----Shaw
    ----------------Blind----------------
    -------Fellaini-------Herrera/Carrick----
    -----------Rooney-Di Maria----------
    ----------------RvP---------

Fellaini doing a job on Silva like he did on Fabregas.

What I think we will see:

    ----------------De Gea-------------
    Rafael-- -Smalling-------Rojo----------Shaw
    ---------------Blind------------------------
    Di Maria---Rooney------Fellaini-------Januzaj
    --------------RVP---------------------------

Same as against Chelsea but straight swap of Mata for Rooney

Two DMs will be my choice for defense in away game. As in the last game against Chelsea, Blind got too much pressure on him as the only DM. And it was really difficult to cover the whole defense area by only one DM no matter how good he was.

Compare to Herrera, Fellaini is much stronger. He is more famillier with the Kompany-muscle-defense-Style. He could do more dirty work against Kompany and Mangala in the box for RVP and Rooney. He would be my choice if we want to stay back and play long pass to the front.

Probably not the best idea to let Carrick walk straight into this one, if I'm honest. Would like to see Blind, Herrera and Fellaini, with Herrera doing a job on Silva and Fellaini keeping Toure at bay. The rest of the team I'm not too sure on.

City haven't been at their best this season and Toure seems to have declined over night. Herrera, Rooney, Carrick and Falcao are all back, four massively important players, there's no reason why we shouldn't go for the win. As always our defense is a worry and we will concede.

I doubt we'll be playing a diamond because of the strength in their midfield, I think the squad is a hard one to call because we need to be playing Rooney, Herrera and Falcao but Fellaini doesn't deserve to be dropped and RVP played well enough and got a goal to keep his spot for now.

I really think we could use Herrera's guile and workrate. Found it weird he wasn't considered over Mata in the Chelsea game. A lot will rest on Di Maria for counterattacks.

Defensively we're taking shape I think. Rafael, Shaw and Rojo have all started our last 3-4 games and I think with a bit of consistency in our defensive selection we'll improve. I agree we lack a real leader at the back like Kompany or Terry but I've no doubt that we'll improve once we get past our injury problems and can start playing the same back four week in, week out.

There's a bit of belief about us as well now. We're not giving in and I think the players are buying into LVG's methods and his favorite buzzword. This will be really, really tough but we could nick it with a bit of luck; A draw would be a good result.

    de Gea
    Rafael Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera Fellaini Di Maria
    Rooney
    RVP

Harsh on Januzaj but we need to pack the midfield here. This formation allows us to play our best players at the expense of potentially being vulnerable out wide. Do think it's our best bet though.

I just feel we may need someone more dynamic in the midfield against City. I may be proved wrong as I am a great fan of Daley. The choice may well be between Daley and Fellaini

Indeed, the past two games now we upped our game in the dying which is an absolute joy to watch.

Bring the diamond back and ask Fellaini to disrupt city's buildup from the back.

Herrera will assist Rafael and Di Maria will combine with Shaw to threaten their right flank.

A win would be brilliant but I would happily take a draw right now! We should play

    -------------------------------De GOAT-------------------------------
    ---Rafael--------------Smalling--------Jones------------Shaw---
    --------------------------------Carrick-------------------------------
    --------------------Fellaini------------------Blind/Herrera---------------------
    ---------------------------------Di Maria-------------------------------

City are in absolute dire form right now, we need to take advantage of this and play for the 3 points, Our forward line can damage them, especially if we target Mangala/Dechimilles into making mistakes. Put Di Maria in the middle and let him fly.

City won't lose two in a row and we aren't good enough to beat City away. We'll start well, but I think we'll lose 2-0 or 3-1

Rooney, Falcao, Mata and Januzaj on the bench? I think that at least one of them will start with Van Persie, likely Rooney. I would like to play with a diamond of Blind, Fellaini, Herrera and Di Maria, but I think Van Gaals will continue using the 4-1-4-1 formation versus big teams. So he would change Mata for Herrera and Januzaj for Rooney.

De Gea; Rafa, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw; Blind, Fellaini, Di Maria, Herrera; Falcao, Rooney

Both terrified and excited for this one.
We simply cannot afford to lose this game, let alone get battered. I think a draw should be a good result for us, not because of the point, but more for the moral of the squad.

    That's what I'd play:

    --------------------DDG--------------------
    Rafael-----Smalling----Rojo--------Shaw
    ------------Blind---------Fellaini-----------
    ---Herrera-------Rooney-------Di Maria-
    ----------------Falcao/RVP----------------

Herrera to help out Rafael with the majestic D.Silva.
