I think Shaw will play on the left, but other than that, I agree. Defensively solid first, pace and youth up front to press and force the errors that are bound to happen

Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please don't name Michael Oliver as the referee for this. We need a strong referee who doesn't screw us over every single game

It's make or break. Win this and we are in the most strongest position to get a C.L spot. Don't know what if Pogba is injuried? A midfield from Carrick, Herrera, and Fellaini will be a mess I reckon. Just praying things go our way for this one.
    I'll take a draw.

Jose just said he's picking a side with one eye on Celta, Celta are the priority.
I'd take a draw right now
I would take his words lightly, since the Celta game is in a week from this one.

    Perfect weekend for us.

Even a draw would leave us with a great chance of grabbing 4th
It would, and it's an ok result. But since our run of games is much worse, it might not be enough, really.

First choice back 4, a flat 3 man midfield with Carrick dropping back when not in posession so the fullbacks have less space to cover when facing Sane and Sterling. It would give us that back 3 shape so we can pressure further up with Miki playing behind a front two of Martial and Rashford.
Let the fullbacks provide width and and kill them through their weak centre. Get them swarming around Yaya and Delph.
The front two would also have more room to drift around Navas and the LB instead of being stationary targets and expose Navas lack of defensive awareness.
I'm expecting big things from Jose, this is tailor made for him. They have more to exploit than Chelsea have.

Well, there's Swansea as well on Sunday...

Actually I've just seen we don't have any 1 week breaks from now until the end of the season so plenty of rotation will be needed especially as we've already had plenty of games.

Wouldn't be surprised to see something like:
    De Gea
    Bailly Blind Darmian
    Valencia Herrera Fellaini Pogba Young
    Martial Rashford
Carrick in for Pogba if he's injured, Miki maybe in for one of the front 2 (martial obviously). Or Lingard for him. But away to City, can easily see a formation change. Will be a tough game but if we manage to win somehow then it would be huge.
I agreed in general, that this might be the way to go, except if Pogba's out, then I think we'll go 3-4-3. But I can only see Herrera as #6 to stop de Bruyne, instead of Fellaini which is more useful upfront. Also, it will be probably Lingard or Mkhitaryan instead of Martial. And should be Shaw for Young.

Feeling confident. Suggest we may see this:

    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Blind Shaw
    Fellaini Herrera Pogba
    Lingard Rashford Mkhi

Feel as if Darmian should be there too, perhaps instead of Mkhi.

This thing that's developed over the last four or so games where we're almost alternating between different teams from weekend game to midweek game is doing wonders for the mental state of the players. The players who do best in a game tend to be rested for the next one. The intent is to keep everyone as fresh as possible but it's also serving to keep them really hungry and sharp too.

Expect it to continue. Martial out of the starting line-up, back to the Lingard-Rashford pairing up front as against Chelsea. Then Tony will come on later in the game, confident because of his performance vs Burnley but with urgency because he's not got much time to keep it going.

I think you're right, but according to that logic, Lingard should be rested and Mkhitaryan take his place.

City don't have much of an aerial threat so we can field 10 outfield footballers in this one, I'd go for the system we played against Chelsea but with Martial partnering Rashford, however It'll likely be Lingard or Mkhi.

Not necessarily. It's not a perfect rule or anything. Just a vague trend that the 'star' of each game doesn't start the next one, and this time that's Martial.

Start Rashford for this one, and Marital v Swansea, let those two rotate the main striker role.

Think it's important we get a result here, so strongest team possible is vital, if we can somehow win here the morale boost for the EL game and Swansea will be huge.

Swansea at home, Mourinho would probably invert Rooney and Martial's position, since that adversary is much more likely to sit back, not leaving that much space for Martial or Rashford's runs.

That's a good point, rather Martial running at a full back than Rooney!

    Team should be...

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    -----Bailly-----Blind-----Darmian----
    Valencia--Herrera--Pogba--Young
    ---------------Fellaini---------------
    -------Rashford---Lingard-------

Subs: Romero, Fosu-Mensah, Shaw, Carrick, Mkhitaryan, Martial, Rooney
Whenever I see Fellaini at #10, I swear it makes my haemorrhoids play up. We have a guy who can bridge midfield and attack a lot better and his name is Mkhi. Also it's been proven countless times that bringing Fellaini on to defend a result does not work, as the guy might be a hard worker but he doesn't have any defensive awareness. So let's play this instead:

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    ----Darmian---Bailly-----Blind-----
    Valencia--Herrera---Pogba---Young
    ---------------Mkhi---------------
    -------Rashford---Lingard-------

Then when Lingard tires, throw Martial on.

I think fellaini plays. We will have a pretty defensive shape and play on the counter with rash and lingard up like v Chelsea. I'd take a draw but a win would be lovely and far from impossible. this season has been so unpredictable (unless you predicted we'd draw 12 games)

This should go a lot better than the reverse fixture at OT where, for some absurd reason, we played Zlatan, Rooney, Fellaini and an injured Mkhi all together.

    Jose is a born winner.
There is absolutely no way in hell that he is going to put out a side which rolls over and loses. He'll put out a team designed from the outset to either get a draw or win.
Just like Zlatan said that quitting is not an option. For Jose, losing is not an option.

Is it 23 games unbeaten, now?

Knowing us and the rollercoaster for 4th place we're on this season, we'll lose this then win 3 and draw 2 out of the remaining fixtures, finishing one point above Liverpool.

Got a feeling that the injuries picked up in SF will keep the players out.

Expect the starting line up to be

    Kolarov
    Clichy

    Sterling
    Yaya
    Delph
    KdB

    Gabriel

    Bench

    Willy
    Zab
    Kompany
    Fernando
    Aleix Garcia

We have to be going into this game absolutely rabid. The momentum we have at the moment will be yuge. Absolutely yuge.

Same formation, Rashford in for Rooney, straight swap. Easy peasy, 2-0 United on the counter half way through the first half and near the end of the second half.

    Please don’t lose!

A draw would be fine – considering that we would still have one game in hand against the Scousers. However, I hope the last results gave the guys some confidence and with Martial and Rooney both being on the score sheet today this might do wonders to them. An early goal and the same passion as against Chelsea and we may get a win from the Etihad.

Good thing they had to go to extra time yesterday so their legs should be as tired as ours – or at least are supposed to be.

    Why?

Is it just me or even a draw would be a good result.

Even tho they lost and played OT and their confidence must be shaken still a tough, tough game of course.
Miki has not been in good form in the League recently and I think Jose trusts Lingard more despite also not being in constant good form but he proved against Chelsea that he'll work no end

I'd like to see Shaw back in the frame. He's looked a lot better in the last couple of games. I don't mind Darmian as a defender, but he doesn't offer anything beyond the halfway line. City's weaknesses are at fullback, and we could hurt them if we go at them in the wide areas.

They're a bit iffy at home and we're decent away, for some reason. Feeling more confident about an away derby than I have for years. The only concern is if Pogba is fit. He's looked a lot better recently too, as he's kept his game simple and not constantly tried to turn on the heroics. I hope he's fit to play.
