Manchester City Football Club (nicknamed City, The Citizens, and The Sky Blues), are a professional football club based in Manchester, England. City were founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), before being renamed as Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887, and finally Manchester City in 1894 - and the origins can be traced back to members of St. Mark's Church of England, West Gorton — who founded the football club that would become known as Manchester City, for largely humanitarian purposes. Two church wardens sought to curb local gang violence and alcoholism by instituting new activities for local men, whilst high unemployment plagued East Manchester, specifically Gorton. All men were welcome to join, regardless of religion.

The team's first recorded match occurred on 13 November 1880, and City gained their first honors by winning the Second Division in 1899 — with it came promotion to the highest level in English football, the First Division. In the seasons following the FA Cup triumph of 1904, the club was dogged by allegations of financial irregularities, culminating in the suspension of seventeen players in 1904, including captain Billy Meredith, who subsequently moved across town to Manchester United. Almost half a century later later, a City team inspired by a tactical system known as the Revie Plan reached consecutive FA Cup finals again, in 1955 and 1956; just as in the 1930s, they lost the first one, to Newcastle United, and won the second. The club continued to challenge for honors throughout the 1970s, finishing one point behind the league champions on two occasions and reaching the final of the 1974 League Cup.

Prior to the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, the club had enjoyed moderate levels of success through their history — however, since the start of the current decade, City have been buoyed by the signings of Sergio Agüero, Yaya Touré, David Silva, Vincent Kompany — and have emerged as perpetual title contenders, winning the league 8 times in 12 years and repeatedly finishing in the Top 3. City play their homes games at the Etihad Stadium, and their biggest rivals are neighbors and opponents for the game, Manchester United.

Going off the assumption Cunha is injured. If he’s fit he’d start.

    Lammens
Yoro - de Ligt - Shaw
    Amad - Casemiro - Bruno - Dorgu
    Mbeumo - Sesko - Mount

We best win this. It be a nice birthday present for me.

    -------------Lammens--------------
-------Yoro – De Ligt – Shaw--------
    Amad – Casemiro – Mount – Dorgu
    ---Mbeumo – Šeško – Bruno-------

This feels like the right balance between solidity and threat.

    • Back three: Yoro’s pace alongside De Ligt’s aerial presence and Shaw’s left-footed build-up gives us a mix of youth, leadership, and balance. Shaw at LCB also means we don’t get stuck funnelling everything down one side.
    • Wing-backs: Amad might not be a natural wing-back, but against City his ability to beat a man and drive us forward on the break could be huge. On the left, Dorgu brings energy and fearlessness — exactly what you need to keep City’s full-backs honest.
    • Midfield: Casemiro to sit and protect, Mount to press and run. Mount’s intensity without the ball and ability to carry it through midfield makes him the perfect partner for Case in a game where transitions will decide everything.
    • Front three: Mbeumo stretching the pitch, Sesko occupying Dias, and Bruno pulling strings in the right half-space. This is a trio that gives us both direct threat and creativity — and if Bruno gets time on the ball, Sesko and Mbeumo will get chances.
The game plan has to be clear: frustrate City in the 5-2-3 out of possession, then spring into the 3-2-5 with real intent. Get it wide quickly, flood the box, and trust Sesko to punish them. We won’t beat them by playing cautious football — we’ll beat them by being brave and ruthless when the moments come.

It’s a massive ask, but this XI at least gives us a fighting chance. City aren’t invincible — Spurs proved that last season. If we show courage, stick to the plan, and take our chances, there’s no reason we can’t turn them over.

    Glory Glory.

    Going to be there!

and the Chelsea match the next week.

I am little concerned only because my friend that's coming with me has seen United in person 4 times (3 PL matches and 1 preseason game vs Real Madrid here in Houston). They've never scored in any of those games. He'll only be at the City game with me, though.

Hard to say a lineup without knowing the status of Cunha, Mount and Dalot. My guess is Cunha will be out for a few weeks but the other 2 might have just been precautions. Assuming none of the 3 are fit to start though, I think Amorim will go:

    Altay
    Yoro De Ligt Shaw
    Amad Casemiro Ugarte Dorgu
    Mbeumo Bruno
    Sesko

Though if it were up to me I'd go with this... Keep it tight and sit a bit deeper then hit them on the counter.
    Altay
    Mazraoui De Ligt Yoro Shaw
    Casemiro Ugarte
    Amad Bruno Mbeumo
    Sesko

You're getting this match at a good time.

Quite a big transition of players combined with some significant injuries and form loss leave City pretty vulnerable to you.

Gvardiol, Cherki, Kovacic will be missing. Foden, Stones, Savinho, Khusanov are doubtful.
Played some attractive football this season but not converted that to goals and still prone to mistakes and panic in our own half.
    Not confident for this one.

The assumption right now is that Cunha and Mount are going to miss this.

Given their form, this is probably the most evenly-matched we've been with them going into a match in a long time. Colossal opportunity for us, but I could definitely see a draw.

I think this will likely be the team. Possibly Mount for Mainoo.

Baptism of fire for Lemmens in a huge Derby game. Hoping so much that he gets off to a good start to boost everybody's confidence

Lammens to sneeze when he's about to hoof it forward, resulting in an own goal.

I think Mount has greater chance of starting than Cunha. I have little hope in Cunha making an appearance - otherwise we’re seriously risking losing him for longer.

    Lammens

    Mazraoui
    De Ligt
    Yoro

    Amad
    Casemiro
    Bruno
    Dorgu

    Mbeumo
    Mount
    Sesko

If Mount is still out, move Bruno up to CAM and slot Mainoo back there with Casemiro.
We definitely have it in the tank in that team to get a win.

I want us to come out ready to put in a performance like we did against Arsenal here, fight for everything and high energy. For that reason I’d rather see Zirkzee come in at 10 if needed than play Mainoo in CM right now. On the other hand I want to see Mainoo really step it up and make me believe that he’s doing everything to get into the team, so I’d be intrigued to see how he did. I’d just be concerned that he’ll lack that intensity off the ball and City will punish us for it.

    Mbeumo - Sesko - Mount
    I’d imagine Lammens won’t be starting .

3 nil to United. City to be in crisis with 3 points from 4 games, but the media will still speak only about united and how we were lucky and it being a once off victory.

Given the injuries (Dalot, Cunha, Mount) he’ll do something like this.

    Bayindir
Yoro - de Ligt - Shaw
    Amad - Casemiro - Bruno - Mazraoui
    Mbeumo - Sesko - Zirkzee

    What he should do is

    Lammens
Yoro - de Ligt - Heaven
    Amad - Casemiro - Mainoo - Mazraoui
    Mbeumo - Sesko - Bruno

I don’t like the second team right now. Sesko is very much finding his feet, Heaven is way off form compared to last season, and Mainoo has been below par. I don’t think we can afford to potentially carry 3 players. On top of that you’ve got Mazraoui way out of position too.

I think Zirkzee and Dorgu have to be considered.

We all know that to beat city, you have to run at them with pace. They don’t like that. We use to get most of our success by countering against them but in the 2nd half against them last season under Amorim we dominating them. Was a game of 2 half’s. I actually think we can match them and we’ll see plenty of the ball in this system.

I think shaw starts this. He gives us the best balance in that LCB role. It’s hard though because mazraoui is decent and can dribble out of tight spaces. I’d be tempted to play Bruno in AM for this one… can’t afford him to be loosing the ball in midfield against them.

    Predicting a 1-1 draw.
    Sounds about right

Glad to get the transfer Bollox and internationals over with and get back to some fecking horrendous refereeing discussion again

Mental how it’s all contrived controversy and little appreciation of the game

This is my choice of lineup. Probably our strongest set up for this game given the injuries. I wouldn't be against Amad being tried as LWB and Mazraoui brought in on the right though.

We have a good record at the empty had. I see us being the better team but drawing the game. Score draw.

Pep doesn't give a feck anymore, so it's there for the taking if we can put in even a half decent effort.

So basically If we play like we did against Arsenal we'll win easily, but if we do a Grimsby then St Pep will be the man again until they play Napoli and Arsenal.

I'd play Mazraoui, was a beast vs Doku last time especially if Amad is playing RWB. Move Yoro to LCB.

Combined team more even than in recent years. Maybe something like:

    Donnarumma

    Yoro
    Stones
    Gvardiol

    Amad
    Bruno
    Rodri
    Al Nouri

    Cunha
    Mbeumo

    Haaland

    ?

Amorim’s going to want/need a really aggressive press for this so I hope Mount is ready.

surprised to see so many have Lammens in goal. I'd personally play him, but can't see Amorim starting him. Amorim is a very cautious manager, I can't see him throwing Lammens in, like most of us would prefer.

Quietly optimistic for some reason. We've been decent in the big games under Amorim.
