I kind of want to see this team:
    DDG
    Valencia-Baily-Rojo-Shaw
    Mkhitaryan-Herrera-Fellaini-Pogba
    Ibrahimovic-Martial
With Rashford being subbed on. I just want to see Martial just go for it.

Carrick contributes a lot to the build up. You are spot on. He is not a mere "water carrier", he does get involved in attacking moves, and his passing is very good. If we are playing 4-3-3 then he has to be included, no doubt about it, especially in big games where his experience will be important.
Not only in 4-3-3, him and Pogba just dominated Anderlecht young starlets midfield three away!

84% off Carrick passes in the league this year have been forward. I genuinely can't believe people are still saying he only passes sideways and backwards
Where did you get that number from ?

    I don't believe that for a second

There's no reason why Martial should be played in such an important game. He has shown nothing this season to suggest that he can be depended on in crucial moments. Rashford on the other hand did the business against Chelsea and looked the real deal. He has to start. Like it or not, the Martial fanboys have to accept that their man is way down the pecking order. He isn't the ballon d'or winner many seem to think he is.

Carrick doesn't play forward passes, @The red panther ? I've heard it all now! Along with Blind and Pogba he's the best forward passer we have.

0-0 will see us through in this.
So we don't need to go gung-ho.
Perhaps Jose will go highly tactical and play out for a 0-0, with the aim to score a goal, if the opportunity presents itself.

I will make a bold prediction and suggest that United will win 3-0 against Anderlecht. The win against Chelsea should have done wonders for the players confidence. Losing to Anderlecht would be the ultimate bottle job after beating Chelsea and we simply can't let it happen.

The prospective semi final ties look interesting. Bring on Lyon.

I can see why you're still a new member. You jump to conclusions very quickly for a start. I am not a Martial fanboy, go and check my recent posts about him in his performance thread. I put him there because I think he will start given that Rashford has played two games already this week alone, and Mourinho rotates a lot because we have a lot of games coming up.

Time for 442 to get the best out of Rashford?

    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Rojo Shaw
    Carrick Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Rashford Zlatan Lingard
Would love a 3 or 4 goal win.

Should be an easy ride but you know we'll miss all our chances and keep the game complicated at 0-0 as usual

    My favourite line-up :

    De Gea
    Valencia - Bailly - Rojo - Blind\Shaw
    Herrera - Pogba
    Lingard - Mikhi - Rashford
    Zlatan

I hope Shaw gets game time but I think Blind will start this time and rest Darmian. No need for Fellaini . Carrick may start instead of Lingard and Mikhi shifted to RW but I prefer tacking an attacking approach.

Should be a comfortable 2-0 win if we decide to not complicate things as we used to.

Jose rested one or two players against Chelsea meaning that he'll continue using his squad on thursday ans Sunday again.

Just hope we score early in order to open them and kill them.

What's the situation with Rooney these days? I think I read somewhere that he's started training. So could he play against Anderlecht?

Definitely not. What will make Jose play him over Lingard , Rashford , Mikhi or Zlatan who are all performing at the moment ?

I don't think he'll even be on the bench. I'm getting used to him not present actually :D

Ok, but is he fit or is Mourinho just not using him?

Surely this will mean that he'll leave this summer? Could be a lot of changes this summer - Rooney (?), Carrick (?), Ibrahimovic (?), de Gea (?), Darmian (?), Shaw (?), Martial (?), Jones/Smalling (?). Yes, even Martial could leave if he won't be used enough. He'll probably think about the WC 2018 which will be in danger if he doesn't get game time.

This is the question no one clearly knows the answer as Jose isn't making it clear when asked about him, he always says he " is not available " so don't what that means. I think it's a combination of both , he's not fit enough and Jose lost any trust he still had in him after the Bournemouth game. He tried too hard to include him at the team even as a sub but all in vain . I'm sure he's leaving in summer no doubt for me.

Darmian will probably stay after him rising his performance recently and Jose praised him yesterday .I think Shaw will stay too. Carrick , Zlatan and De Gea , who knows but I don't think all of them will leave this summer, maybe all of them will stay after all. Martial , yes he's the biggest one at danger of being sold at the moment.

Darmian's had a turnaround so can see him staying. From Zlatan, Carrick, De Gea and Jones/Smalling, they could leave but doubt all of them will. From Shaw, Martial and Rooney I'd be very surprised if any of them will be here next season.

Come On United. Knock in a few early ones, take all their energy away, then move on. The more they hang around in this game the more danger we will be in, but I think if we can hit them early with a couple of goals they will break and that will be that.

That would be very risky. Anderlecht won't push too much until the last 10 or so minutes. If we just sit back, we might end up conceding a late goal.

We are playing a weak opposition at home. Let's go out there and beat them. Our record in home games is pretty solid in Europa anyways.

Hope to see an offensive team. José has a 'problem' in that he needs to find a balance between playing the lads who were great against Chelsea while also not playing the ones who are likely more fatigued.

Carrick will likely come back in, along with Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan. I see Rashford, Herrera, Darmian, Lingard and Young as some of the more likely to be rested, but probably not all of them.

    Romero
    Valencia Bailly Rojo Shaw
    Fellaini Carrick Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Ibrahimovic Lingard
    ---
De Gea; Fosu-Mensah, Darmian, Young; Herrera; Martial, Rashford

That would probably be my pick, but I don't think José will start Shaw.

    Uhm what ?

He slows everything down, he does nothing but pass sideways and backwards and he is one of our most static players. Also he creates literally nothing.

I hope for god Jose sees sense and won't start Carrick in any game that matters anymore unless there really isn't any other option.
Feel like I've gone back in time with people still holding this view.

Don't know why, but I got the feeling Mourinho will go for a more cautious 4-3-3 this time. The away 4-2-3-1 with a midfield two of Carrick and Pogba was quite brave, worked swell, and it was a pity the second half waste and consequently the result didn't show it.

I'd really like us to play with 2 strikers, don't care what system though. But given that they will park the bus and Zlatan come deep all the time, we really need someone else to cause problems to their defense.

I think we'll have use most of the players from the Chelsea game again. Romero, Zlatan and Mkhi to come in for De Gea, Young and Fellaini. We'll play a slightly weaker team against Burnley and then back to this team against City.

Nothing really bold in this prediction as 30% of Caf expect that result including me. If we score an early goal, we'll easily score a few more. We need to finish off the game in the first half itself.

Agree with your earlier post where you said Rashford will start ahead of Martial. We need to play the most in-form players this game. Martial will get his chance against Burnley.

Romero will play. Valencia won't. I'd quite like to see Rojo rested, but it can wait.

    Romero
    Shaw Rojo Bailly Darmian
    Fellaini Pogba Herrera
    Miki Rashford/Lingard Zlatan

Ne excuses - we need to win this!

Let's hope the Chelsea game gives the guys some confidence and we would be able to score an early goal.

It would be rather interesting to try Zlatan and Rashford as a strike pairing. One has aerial prowess and strength, the other has pace. But this kind of game is no time for experimentation. It's a must win game. We HAVE to win. I expect us to stick to what we know, and to use what has worked, and allow the sheer quality of our players to be the difference maker.

Zlatan will be fresh as he didn't start the Chelsea game.

    He will also be hungry.

It will be like unleashing a lion on a flock of lambs.
