What I would go for if fit while being semi realistic...
    De gea
    Darmian Smalling Jones Shaw
    Carrick
    Mata Herrera Pogba Rooney
    Martial
Possibly Young in for darmian. The midfield 5 really should be a no brainer with those (yes even rooney). Rooney has always stepped it up when needed to against them, you know he'll put in a shift, and for his standards, is in relatively good form the last few games. Martial up top wont happen but its easily our best option. Much better player then rashford whether its up top or out wide, and its time to get the most out of him. Rashford up top and any semblance of hold up play is gone, while bellerin, mustafi and koscielny can match him pace wise so there goes his only threat these days.
Bellerin is super quick, but surely the other 2 aren't faster than Rashford?
And it's more about having that sheer pace as a deterrant to defenders not to push up too much. Against Rooney or Ibra, they could sit very high, and not have a worry about being outpaced, just having Rashford, or Martial there is a threat

I mean that Rashford wouldn't be able to outpace them so much without the ball. It's not like sometimes if we are playing on the break, you want that pace there against slower defenders. We are at home so probably won't be counter attacking, and Rashford only even wants to basically run straight at defenders and sprint past them. That won't work against Mustafi and Koscielny because they aren't slouches. Like they aren't as quick as Rashford over the first few yards, but quick enough to react. You need more subtlety in your play and trickery, which Martial can offer, but Rashford hasn't got. Martial can also deal with them physically while offering the pace. That's why he's a no brainer for me. I agree you need some pace up top so the opposition can't squeeze too high up the pitch, but at the same time, you have to think about the overall plan, and if we got Rashford alone, then he will be way too isolated and will get bullied basically. He can't compete with them physically, won't be able to deal with any high balls, crosses will mostly be a waste, etc.. That's why I would go with Martial first choice for this, and then probably Rooney second. The other on the left wing. Rashford to be an impact sub if needed.

come on son, didn't you see the game? 5th booking, 1 game suspension.
I actually didn't for the last 20 mins or so..

Shame he's out. Hopefully Rashford can perform like he did last year against them. Its obvious Jose will play Rooney down the middle though.

The annoying thing was that I was aware Pogba was on 4 bookings (well, from half time on!), so every foul he committed I was worried. Then Ibra stormed someone over, and suddenly it's 5th booking, and out, doh!

The only positive with Rooney up front is that we can have a team full of more mobile players behind him .
Will definitely need more pace on the wings v Arsenal though. Even if one is Lingard and the other is Martial that's the sort of energy and mobility needed.

Mata off Rooney in the middle wouldn't be ideal, but hopefully we'll go Pogba and Herrera in front of Carrick, that's probably our best option.

Just realized there's an international break next weekend...sigh. I hate international breaks so much.

If Carrick doesn't start this match, Jose is a nutter. Midfield 3 of Carrick, Herrera and Pogboom should be obvious.

Hard to predict a team because I'm not up to speed on injuries. Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Shaw? What's up with them?

    De Gea
    Young Smalling Jones Blind
    Carrick
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata Rooney Rashford
My guess for the starting line up. Of course that could all change after internationals.

I don't want to see Rooney play and I hate shoving Mata wide right, but I think this is the best we can hope for in this game.

The crowd have to be up for this match from the go. Pogba cannot be one of two central mids for this match or else United will struggle.

Not too confident. Feeling the same way i felt before we played City and Liverpool. Think we will get spanked sadly. They are too quick. Unless we score first and put them under pressure, it's not going to be our night. Don't see anyone except Pogba, Herrera and Mata to be up for this game and Rashford if he starts.

I'm afraid Mourinho might be tempted to pick Fellaini ahead of Carrick and Martial ahead of Rashford (no way Rooney's not going to start).

Martial ahead of rashford would be the obvious correct choice anyway. Most likely not gonna happen unfortunately.

Martial ahead of Rashford at left-wing might be the correct choice, not as forward, though.

Shame to see Zlatan banned for this after finally finding the net again but I think it may well be a blessing in disguise as Jose will likely have us playing on the counter against Arsenal and pacey attackers like Rashford and Martial suit that system a lot better than Ibra.

Yes we didn't get spanked against Liverpool because we chose not to do anything with the ball. Right now, at this moment, Chelsea, City, Liverpool are all a level or 2 above United and that has shown in the matches we played against them. Only Arsenal are pending, i hope that Jose's run against Wenger continues but it feels like asking too much from a team that is still a work in progress and not in sync still.

Yes, i was glad that we did. We had the first team while City did rest some important players. Let's see how the match goes.If United win, we can go on a good run and catch the teams above us. Certainly not impossible but looks quite difficult at the moment.

It's all about the midfield 3,as long as he picks Carrick,Herrera and Pogba then we will be fine, anything else and we will be in serious trouble

    Reasons I'm confident for this:
United 2-0 Arsenal 2010/11 playing a midfield of Fabio, O'Shea, Gibson and Rafael
    United 8-2 Arsenal 2011/12
United 1-0 Arsenal 2013/14 We had Moyes. That is all.
Arsenal 1-2 United 2014/15 when we had McNair, Blackett and Gibson in our back 5 (with Young and a not beast mode valencia as wing backs)
United 3-2 Arsenal 2015/16 starting the likes of rashford, lingard, varela, TFM and some others for their debuts (at least before they were established into the first team)

    Mourinho record vs Arsene Wenger:
    7 wins, 6 draws, 0 losses. 21 goals for, 5 against.

Herrera further forward than Carrick, is he good enough there? His best performances have been as DM this season. I would play Mata and go 4411.

Is Cazorla fit? He is their key player imo

In our last 3 years of mediocrity, we've beaten them three times, drawn twice and lost once. Jose's record on Wenger too.
    This gives me hope.
The other positive is that its a home game! We are actually very difficult to beat at home and normally create many chances in our home games.
So, in summary, I'd say that we are favourites to win this match.

Now, in our last game, I submitted a 1-1 prediction and we won!
So, for reasons of superstition, I have submitted a 1-1 prediction again...hoping that we get the same scoreline as we had against Swansea (3-1).

As mediocre as we've been in the recent years, we've still had their number. Mourinho's record against Wenger is also immaculate, I shudder to think what would happen if Wenger's Arsenal came to OT and beat us. A lot is riding on this game. Lose this and we're effectively 9pts off a CL spot, a win and we're right back into the mix, not to mention wonders it'll do to our confidence. We've looked 2nd best to every decent team we've come across so far so this is our chance to impose ourselves and finally look like a decent team ourselves.

Considering Ibra is suspended and Martial didn't get picked for France, I hope Mourinho picks him as our striker. We seem to have forgotten how good Martial can be, his long term future is still as a CF so I hope Ibra's suspension means he gets a crack at it.

I'd go with the formation and players against Swansea, but swap Martial for Zlatan and Herrera for Felli. Rashford to come in around the 65m mark for Rooney.

Barring injuries in the international break, you'll probably face a team of:

    Cech
    Bellerin
    Mustafi
    Koscielny
    Monreal
    Coquelin
    Cazorla presuming he's fit.
    Walcott
    Ozil
    Ramsey
    Alexis

We are the better team but we normally struggle against the José bus. An early goal for us and it should be a relatively easy day at the office... if it's a draw at half time I think it'll only go one way from there (and it's not good for us).

Valencia - Fractured hand, had a surgery a week ago, probably out at least until the end of November

Smalling - Minor foot injury, played vs Chelsea injured. Hopefully back for Arsenal

Bailly - Knee ligament injury, out until the end of 2016, although some papers have reported he could be back as early as Dec 11 vs Spurs

Shaw - No-one knows, José said "Shaw told me he's not fit to play yesterday (Saturday), probably one of the players Mourinho criticized for being weak. So should be back next game, could also be that he won't play much in the near future...

You betrayed me. :(. Its not good to make fun of a jinx

    :(

Please win. If we do, we go 3 points behind arsenal. We could be doing Liverpool a favour but i think its important for us to win and get some momentum.
You think? Really? Why would we even care about Liverpool? Don't think there is one United fan who'd ever consider not winning, especially at this stage of the season, so that Arsenal could keep up with Liverpool at the top :houllier:
