Ugh I’d rather have not known their poor domestic form going into this. It just sets it up for them to play out of their skin on Thursday.

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.

Milan will be 14 points above Roma if they win their game in hand, and we had no problems with them. I think this is going to be an easy semi final.

We must win this one. I really wouldn't like us to go there with some shitty result and except we will find a consolation in the second leg.

Greenwood looked knackered at the end of the Leeds game. Might be an idea to use him off the bench if we can

Anyone else quite excited for this?

It's just the Europa, which admittedly isn't where a club like United should be.

I just think a first trophy for Solskjaer would be huge and lift us to bigger things.

I think it will be a very similar side to the one that faced Leeds. In come de Gea, Pogba and potentially Cavani. However, I do still think Ole would probably start with McFred...

Defence will be key as it was in last year’s final stages.
We have the better defensive unit, what we need to show is that we can finish

Ahhh how amazing it felt to be in the crowd that night in 2007.

    7-1 or we riot.

So nice to see a Europa League thread without half the posts suggesting huge changes or belittling the tournament. :D

Hard to say what tactical tweaks Ole will go for in terms of CM, Pogba, James / Greenwood / Cavani options, but I'll go for...

    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw
    Fred, McTominay
    Rashford, Fernandes, Pogba
    Cavani

But could easily see Pogba at CM, and Greenwood or James out wide.

I imagine that’ll be the team you listed.

Last season Roma were knocked out of the Europa league by Sevilla (we know how that feels)

Defender Mancini was meant to suspended for the 1st leg did one of the yellows get over turned?

It's a month old but a decent breakdown on what to expect from Roma.

Usually hate having the first leg at home although it seems to suit us this season.

Snap, especially after how their fans acted.
I was selling merch that day and only managed to get in the ground for an hour or so,

    They caused absolute carnage!

It definitely added to the edge.

I got there just as they charged down from the cricket ground and our fans reacted, was mental.

Then we got in the ground and it was properly on edge. Every goal felt like a proper ‘feck you’ to them for the first leg and then the extra trouble before this one. Was an amazing night.

I'm so nervous about this game! I hate the feeling I have...
Feels incredible important to win this with 2 or 3

Watched recent Roma games and really feel that Calafiori is a week link for them. He often gets dragged into the centre leaving alot of space to exploit. He starts off man marking on a set piece then gravitates to the ball. I think Greenwood , if given quick service could be a big factor.

Ajax seemed to get alot of chances through the middle so maybe 1-2s with Rashford , Shaw or even Bruno can unlock them.Keeper seems to be a good shot stopper so playing through seems logical.

They defend, keeping a good back line but it seems sluggish somehow. i.e. An attacker is closed down quickly but often seems a weak block.

Hope we can get some crisp one touch passing rythm and time some passes/runs inbetween CBs , where they look vulnerable to me.
    ;)

I don’t watch Roma these days but last time I watched them against inter Milan, they scored from corner. And we are weak against corner. Hope we study this and anticipate it well.

However, I’m still confident we will make it to final. We are the better team based on quality and we also had tougher tests in this tournament. AC Milan is better than Roma and we beat them. We were also toying with Real Sociedad.

You say this, but then I signed him for Southampton in my FM save and we got to the Champions League final. So swings and roundabouts.

3 wins, 5 losses and 2 draws in their last 10 league games.

Presumably they've thrown the league campaign and gone all in on the EL.

If United don't beat them comfortably on Thursday, I guarantee some Roma-affiliated journalist in the post-match press conference will ask Ole, "Do you know them now?" I vaguely remember the Russians doing something similar to Roy Hodgson in some international tournament.

I expect a cagey, pragmatic approach. Hopefully Dan James doesn't get any game time.

    1-0.

Think the only players with chances of starting are / should be:

    De Gea / Henderson
    Wan-Bissaka
    Lindelof / Bailly
    Maguire
    Shaw
    Fred / McTominay / Matic
    Pogba
    Bruno
    Greenwood
    Cavani
    Rashford

Ole may decide that we can go with one DM and Pogba as a CM in this game, but I would not be surprised if he goes with two at the expense of one of the three strikers or Pogba. I just think that out of our next three games, this is probably the one where we could play a 4231 / 433 without needing two of Fred/McTominay/Matic to start. It's a big game though and he trusts McFred the most clearly. It seems like it's easier for Ole to leave out Greenwood or Cavani because of their situation (young player who will get many more chances and old player who can't start every game and is probably not here next season anyway). Also, it can be easier to leave out Rashford as well if he's feeling the ankle a bit. So, while I'm sure most fans don't want it, I can see why Ole would logically choose two DMs in a big game, even at home. This also gives us a good attacking option from the bench to change things.
