    If I see 4-2-2-2 again, well I might just...I don't think I can....

Got to admit i'm quite pessimistic about our chances tonight. Normally after these performances and reports coming out i'd expect a reaction but with this lot i'm fairly certain we won't.

4-2-2-2 would be okay if Ronaldo is not on the field. He was decent but he cannot adapt in this formation with pressing mode in 90 mins with that age

    i’d like to see

    Henderson

    Dalot
    Varane
    Bailly
    Telles

    Fred
    VDB

    Bruno
    Sancho

    Greenwood
    Cavani

However it’s a trophy we could realistically win and thats how the manager will see it, so expect then usual suspects, Maguire, Mcmatic, Shaw and Ronaldo come in.

Aston Villa is not a good team, and we should win over them at home 8 out of 10 times. But United has been poor for a very long time now, and the players seem like they do not want to give 100%. So I think we are going to lose 0-2.

They've already beaten us 1-0 at OT, plus stevie G is doing really well with them now. And as you say, we've been so poor for such a long time now, plus there is talk of squad unrest. I also can't see anything other than a villa victory.

Not confident at all and think another defeat tonight. Gerrard will have his team well up for this and watching Villa play since he came in, players are putting in a shift and running more and look organised

I've never been more certain that United will lose a game of football than I am about this game of football.

I've nearly 40 years as a United fan unde my belt and I'm more deflated about the team than I've ever been. I just don't see anything to give me any hope it will get better. I don't think transfers will make much of a difference, neither will a new manager.
    Ditto.

Villas and Utds in game statistics are almost identical. Its gonna be pretty even.

Issue with such a formation is the two in midfield don't have the capacity to pass under pressure or feed balls through to the attack.

So the opposition pack the midfield and we're back to turnovers through poor passes. Our only play would be through the fullbacks and then hoping our wide forwards can cut in and smash it in.

I think any formation we play needs a number 10 to help our shite midfield keep and progress the ball.

Feel like the caf has now swung so far toward pessimism it can only be a win now - I doubt we'll be much different apart from being a lot less passive than versus Wolves.

If this group of players follows their usual trend, there'll be a big reaction tonight and then a slump for the PL fixture.

I’m actually quite confident of a win tonight, need to play 3 in midfield mind and nullifiy John McGinn, the rest I think we’ll handle although I think Cash would be far to much for Sancho so start Rashford instead. Got a sneaky suspicion Villa might go 5 at the back..

Sorry just come from the pub. All RR has to say is the ball is the trophy. Do not let the opposition touch the trophy and the game is ours; simple.

    Glasgow resident these days.
We’re going to lose unless there is a sudden change in mindset from 7/8 players.
If the players show some commitment and that they are trying to adjust, it will offset the inevitable defeat.
Villa are organised and work their socks off. They will be disappointed if they get knocked out by this current performing United side.

I don't see a version of this where we win. Villa are on the up and up and we are... yeah. And Slippy will have them whipped up for this. Maybe if we draw it out to penalties and with some luck defeat them there.

I am ready for the game! Several uninterrupted days of practice. A lost of social media griefs being cleared. Nothing left but to lace up the boots and play your ass off.
I can see us showing really well today and roll out with a 2-0 win.

If we do three at the back and Sancho at wing back then it’s clear we’re already at the Hail Mary stage.

Since United got a sports psychologist, it's all gone wrong. This is not meant to be taken seriously. But it's just striking that you hear about a lot of dissatisfied players right now

I hope we play so well (with a dodgy goal or two) that Gerrard gets sent off.

This is arguably the biggest game of the season for me. If we were to get knocked out tonight then I would really fear for the rest of the season and for Ralf trying to get any kind of togetherness from the squad going forwards.

The trouble though is if we play anything like we have done in any game under Ralf so far then a defeat is likely as Villa are decent and we all know will be licking their lips at the thought of playing us.

Just win tonight you useless rabble of overpaid primadonnas
My thoughts exactly. And if we go out of the cup then we have even less game time we can give to the discontents. So it’s even more paramount we progress.

Only slightly more than half of the predictions have us winning. It's on!

I’d like to see that too. I also wonder about trying Bruno on Donny as 10s with Mcfred behind. So many things we could try but don’t.

I can't help but feel like we're going to lose tonight. I'm nearly always optimistic so it really pains me to say that but we were just so bad against Wolves. In the old days you'd hope for a reaction but since then we've had all the leaks from the players, blaming everyone but themselves.

On the other hand, we've had a full week with proper training and maybe that will make a difference. Come kick-off I'll be back to feeling positive again, question is how long will that feeling last?

I'm expecting a bad performance and a loss. Not letting these losers get my hopes up for the foreseeable, it's the hope that kills you.
