Agree but it has to be said ralf has been incredibly underwhelming. No style of football, very few players have improved. His subs today were odd, bringing on mata after never playing all season
    Players are shit.

We have no forward who's consistently available except ronaldo. Maguire, rashford having a shocker of a season.

We needed to score in that first half. We didn’t and our soft underbelly came to the fore once again. The ref absolutely made my blood boil but he was not the reason we lost this game.

it actually reminded me a lot of the first 6-7 years under Fergie in the champs league where we were just schooled on how to win European games.
You cannot win games when the ref is as one-sided as he was tonight. Every time Sancho beat Llorente he got fouled. After two it has to be yellow and the next time he is driving into the box. By allowing foul after foul after foul he allowed Atletico to get back in position and do it all again. That’s bias.

How many fouls did he give when we took a corner or free kick. Even the Elanga header first half he gave a foul on Oblak. Those kind of incidents you build momentum and get 2nd phase chances. Instead every time it was a free kick and Oblak cleared it upfield while killing time. That’s just not good enough.

And this is actually the clever way to fix games. You can’t give unreasonable red cards or pens any more because of VAR. But systematically tip momentum in one teams favour by giving all the 50:50’s one way, stopping play when an Atletico player goes down and not when a Utd player does. Blow fouls on Atletico players for nothing but not when there is a foul on a Utd player. It swings the game.

Fergie’s teams used to be good enough to beat teams despite this sometimes but it was still a huge factor in us not winning more CL’s under him.

Agree the squad isn't great but still think he could be doing more with it. I was very critical of ole but feel he was judged to a different standard to ralf

Why anyone would want DS as manger god only knows. What an awful football team
Probably acceptable to Atletico cos they’ve always been in Real Madrids shadow. An underdog club with that mentality. If it was an English team though it would never stand and the refs would punish them for playing like cheats and thugs.

He was bad but this is bollocks. We played into their hands. A half decent team would have managed to create more than one chance all game and wouldn't have resorted to putting in shit crosses to no one

Went down to 10 men once Rashford came on. I’ld never play him again now all season.
Awful performance from Rashford. I also hate when you abandon shape chasing a game. Pogba and Mata in midfield, Matic at CB wasn’t as good as McTominay and Fred 10 mins earlier. Sometimes you have to stick with something rather than just throwing attackers on.

I thought we were okay first half, but then returned to backwards/sideways shit we have been seeing all season, and we were never going to cause them trouble playing like that.

Harry Maguire is abysmal as a footballer, plays himself and his team mates into trouble all the time. McTominay was poor tonight, always playing sideways passes never forward. Loved Fred's little cameo in the 1st half but then he seemed to lose all confidence in the 2nd half.

Serious question - have we got the money for another rebuild especially with no Champions League next season? As Arsenal aren't losing 4 games between now and end of the season. Season is over after tonight unfortunately.

My youngest lad has started supporting Leicester City, I have taken him to Utd games for last 4-5 years now, but he just doesn't enjoy watching us play. I cant blame him, I had a choice between Derby County (Mum's side of the family) & MUFC (Dad's side of the family) as a kid back in 80's and I chose to follow Utd because my dad did - I must say I am depressed watching Utd at the moment.

Keep the red flag flying high folks...

It’s not. I’m not saying he actually threw the game but we aren’t good enough to handle a bad refereeing performance. City still win tonight. So do Liverpool. But we can’t beat that. We had all our momentum sucked out of every attack by the fouling and lack of carding. You can’t say it doesn’t affect the game.

I disagree. When did United have a top manager last time for a long periode? Is Rangnick a top manager and do the players respect him? Was Solskjær a top manager? Most things start with the manager. We have many top players in the team. Last season we were number 2 and in the summer we bought Varane, Sancho and Ronaldo - we have a very strong team, a stronger team than last season. But something is clearly missing. We can keep buying and spending money, or we can become better organized with a class manager and a clear plan for the club's transfer policy and how the club should function organizationally.
No it’s a lot simpler than that when you consider this current side is a team that was assembled by Ed Woodward, Mourinho and a few panic buys from Ole.

Thats because this is ole's squad and ole has been coaching them for 3 seasons while rangnick walked in mid season when we had two games every week.

I don't understand how fans still don't get this, not his squad, wasn't allowed to buy in January, came in to Insta FC with so many wanting out or not wanting to play.

I don't know if I can judge him because I can see a system, it's the players that fail to play it

Football the one sport where everyone watches this and congratulates Atleti on being streetwise . Beyond dreadful to watch and a complete joke. Why is the ref allowing 30+ seconds on every throw in or free kick ? Is managing the clock not a part of his job ? Everyone & their Dog could see what they were trying to do by killing momentum but the ref allows it and then casually gives 4 minutes at the end . That free kick where matic got booked alone took 2 minutes off the clock . Embarrassing spectacle
It's time that game clock is not a secret. I was watching NASL games in the 70s and their was someone who would start znd stop the click. If a p,ay needed medical attention, the clock was stopped. It stopped for goals and substitutions. Okay you couldn't stop it for goal kicks or throwing but for the big stuff you could.

Seems like he was at least a poor choice for the interim manager position. Its his job to find a system the players can play in and get them to do that effectively. Anyone can come up with a system it's implementing it that is the difficult part

A team needs an engine. Other than Fred, it has none. Pogba for all his talents, can't run at all. He runs like 45 year old. Bruno is a loose canon. He's wreckless. Because of that Fred has to sit back. When Fred is able to get forward he's alright. Fred got 60% MOTM whe I voted and he was taken off.

Hope that ref get mauled by a fecking giraffe. What a corrupt bastard. So many fecking fouls against us. Not a peep. They dive and the ref might aswel bring tea to the players and give them 10 mins to get up. Oh well, can't beat the refs everytime despite them trying so hard to every fecking week.

I don't think it's totally fair to blame Ralf on that though, I think long term he may be a good investment but for this squad I doubt anyone could truly turn them around given that time frame, we have been brainfart fc this season.

Since he's came in, tonight and the City is the only games were I've thought he's out of his depth with this squad against a tactically well oiled team, but I'm more inclined to blame this group of players than the manager.

You can have the best system and tactics in the world, be the best motivator and have the best speeches but ultimately its how the players take that on board which is out of your control.

Unreal how poor we are. I said this after month one of Ralph managing us. He has certainly not been able to get his methods across to this team. The football he has us playing confuses me. People talk about him bringing structure. We look so average and have no idea or consistent patterns of play that actually work. It is still off the cuff type football. How has he got us more hard to beat? We’re still conceding goals left right and centre. The season is over. What is there else to achieve? Top four? Great fecking achievement. We won’t even get that by the looks of it.

    We need a saviour!!!
Won’t make a jot of difference, they’ll inherit a mess of a squad assembled with thanks to Mourinho and Ole, and when you also consider that Ralf wasn’t allowed to make any signings in January it seems even more bizarre having a dig at him.

I reckon we should already start a postmatch thread since we're losing anyways.

We can safely slag off rashford and maguire at the least. Ronaldo could be tricky though.

Then head to pogba and bruno thread because they went missing again in a big game.
Its not even hard to predict anymore.

It’s not a dig at Ralph but he really isn’t the answer. The fact that you can’t see he shouldn’t have been hired in the first place is my main problem with this forum.

What a disaster. It was a horrible, bitty, attritional game of football which is exactly what Simeone wanted. The referee was a sap who feel for every bit of shithousing but he isn’t the reason we lost. We lost because we’ve been a disjointed shambles all season. Any organised team who execute a game plan have a chance against us. I honestly believe Rotherham could show up to Old Trafford and give us problems at the minute.

Blessing in disguise that we've got so many players out of contract over the next couple of seasons. It isn't just Old Trafford and the board need to think about demolishing and then rebuilding.
