I don't think they'll smash, I bet overall the scoreline won't be too harsh on us but Barca won't even need to play close to their best to best us.

We are not good at all and they score for fun.

Impossible to think that Smalling and Young will face Messi and Suarez… Really difficult to handle.

Last time we played Barcelona it was Rio and Vidic vs Messi.

In our current state of form I don’t really see how we will be able to cope with Messi and Suarez, how our midfield will cope with Busquets and Rakitic.

We were battered technically against PSG and we saw the gap between one challenger for CL and ourselves, next challengers for Europa League.

We are poor and will be ashamed at home.

United 0 – 3 Barcelona (Messi, Messi, Suarez)

    De Gea

    Long Ball (captain of course)
    Smaldini
    Lindelof
    Shaw

    Matic
    PSG
    Real Madrid

    Lingard aka English Iniesta
    Rashford
    Martial aka 250k/w

I feel we should just go for it in the 1st leg and start with an attacking team . Our defense will screw it somehow as it is so might as well take the game to the opposition . I feel our starting 11 should be :

    ------------------------------De Gea---------------------------
    Dalot------Smalling--------------Lindelof----Shaw
    ----------------------------Mc Tominay--------------------
    ------------Herrera-------------------------Pogba--------
    Lukaku-----------------Rashford--------------Martial

Barca are not doing that well , Messi is holding them together.
If we can stop him , we have a slim chance of a result, but if not he could rip us apart and I fear a drubbing worse than the 6-1 City gave us.

First freekick we give away could be a problem. They make sure they get them round our box and I do not trust our lot to not go diving in. Messi rarely misses them.

Lukaku instead of Lingard, Herrera instead of Pogba and that should be the team I’d go with.
We will probably play on the counter attack so I'm thinking to return to the first attack Ole started with.
Herrra is not settld and doesn't keep the ball well enough/ Matic gives it away for fun too so the midfield is an easy choice.

We've been shocking at home in Europe this year.
    • One goal so far in four games and that was in injury time by a player (Fellaini) who has since left.
    • Worst ever European defeat at home: 0-2, i.e. we had never previously lost by a two-or-more goal margin at home in Europe.
Considering ticket holders pay a premium for these games, they've been a miserable experience with nothing for the fans to get behind.

A win would be fantastic, just scoring would be lovely.

Barcelona is shocking on the road in the CL KO for the past few years. Might not help much though. Hope this won't be the game where they get over their away slump.

    Tend to agree

Young, Hererra and Matic shouldn't feature for us again this season

So people say, but other than that Roma result, where have they lost unexpectedly? If they've lost, it has generally been against another top side in a tough draw. Is drawing away at Lyon and Chelsea really what we are clutching at?

Because of the contract? If not, don't see why we wouldn't play him. He's been much better than Pereira.
He's been shite for a couple of games now, his head's been turned by PSG and he looks like he'd rather be somewhere else.

He didn't even clap the fans on Saturday when substituted, something he's always done.

    It's over for him here

Neither losing to PSG or Juventus was unexpected, but the scoreline really could have been better.

    0:4 PSG
    0:3 Juventus
    1:1 Chelsea
    0:3 Roma
    0:0 Lyon

Yeah, using results from two years ago might be clutching at straws and won't help today. Just a trivia tidbit.

They just drew 4-4 with a 17th place Villareal, I think we can have some confidence about scoring. They can be got at and we have generally been solid defensively under Ole. I don't think we have conceded more than two in a game yet? I think we're capable of keeping Barca down to two somewhat comfortably, but you'd imagine giving them two away goals is probably giving them the tie anyway. We'll see, but of course you have to expect Barca to score with their quality going forward.

Young and Shaw will play both legs as they will miss West Ham (and the latter will also miss Everton). Ole seems somewhat reluctant to go back to a 433 ever since switching to a diamond, but I think we should just risk it in this match and play three forwards. Ideally I'd like us to go with the more pacey, fluid option and have a real go at them. Screw it and trust McTominay again, Matic has been poor since coming back. If Herrera is fit then I'd play him over Fred, but if it's because of the contract situation then maybe he won't even feature for us again? Regardless, this is what I'd personally go with:

    de Gea
    Young Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera McTominay Pogba
    Lingard Rashford Martial
    ---
Romero; Dalot, Jones; Matic, Fred; Mata, Lukaku

If we can get at their defence, we'll score goals. They concede goals all the time.

    I'd go for:

    De Gea

    Young
    Smalling
    Lindelof
    Shaw

    McTominay
    Herrera
    Pogba
    Mata

    Rashford
    Martial

I feel this is perfect for Mata at #10.

If we take the chances we should create we can win the game. They conceded 4 goals yesterday. Of course we can score but we can't afford to give cheap possessions. Predictions of 0-3 and 1-4 etc are laughable . I expect a tight game especially if we set up like how people expect us too.

No one thought of the obvious solution? Shut down Old Trafford for the night and ask Stoke to use their ground. Make sure it's cold and wet (it's Stoke, this shouldn't be a problem) and then let's see if Messi really can do it on a cold wet Wednesday night at the Brittania.

You only have to look at Liverpool's flukey champions league win in 2005, Chelsea's in 2012 (?) and even our win against Bayern in 1999 to realise that anything can happen in these games. If we beat Barca we can beat anybody left in this competition. Believe :wenger:

Can we have this game already? The next game can never come quick enough after a loss.

Wouldn't play Lingard in this one. Over last few games he's given the ball away more than anyone bar Ashley Young. If we give the ball away constantly in this game, we'll get hammered.

Everyone is saying we're going to get twatted but anything can happen like us getting twatted even harder than first thought.

Hopefully captain fantastic Ashley Young is ready. Braveheart Jones will contain Messi with his frightening facial expressions.

Exactly what I'd go with. Set up to hit them on the counter and hope they have a bad finishing day.

As long as we keep the deficit to two goals or fewer, I am confident we can turn it around in the away tie again :wenger:

I'm predicting Messi will score atleast 3 goals over the two legs. Just don't fancy our defenders against him.

Regardless of his contract situation, Herrera has to play.

I can see Messi having a laugh with our back line though. :nervous:

    Dave
    Young - Smalling - Lindelof - Shaw
    Matic
    Hererra - Pogba
    Mata/Jesse
    Rashford - Martial

Have a feeling it will be Lukaku up top though instead of Martial
