Results in this fixture this century:

    24/24 - L 3-0
    23/24 - L 3-0
    22/23 - W 3-0 (Casemiro, Shaw, Rashford)
    19/20 W 5-2 (Greenwood x2, Fernandes, Martial, Rashford)
    18/19 - W 4-1 (Rashford, Pogba x2, Lukaku)
    17/18 - W 1-0 (Lukaku)
    16/17 - D 1-1 (Rojo)
    15/16 - W 3-1 (Rooney, Rashford, Young)

It's ass. Third Monday night game in the last five.

Anyway, assuming we have De Ligt back for this, I think the team pretty much picks itself:

    Lammens
Mazraoui - De Ligt - Shaw
    Amad - Casemiro - Bruno - Dalot
    Mbeumo - Mount
    Cunha
Beyond fitness issues, I really can't see how it wouldn't be this line-up. I think it's still too early for Martinez to start. If De Ligt is still out, I'd probably go Heaven over Yoro, as he seems stronger in the air.

Doubt with our approach he goes straight into starting XI even if he's back, Shaw looked decent in the middle though and I rate Martinez so highly, deserves a start as he looks top quality when he's on the pitch and this is a home game.

We need at least one CB who is at least somewhat strong in the air though. Mazraoui/Shaw/Martinez is asking for trouble.

Should help that they could have more possession than us, and that they're in poor form. Travelling up to Manchester for a Monday night is also not ideal.

Some posters will get upset when we win this comfortably and move up the table.

We know it's only a preseason, but we should remember how confident we played them in the summer. We shoul dbe also confident in a home game, after a dominant win.

Quietly confident about this one. We're due a win against this lot.
Just checked their recent results, and they have two points from the last six league games. Was a little surprising to me. Besides Wolves and Burnley, they have the worst form in the league.

Might just be a good time to play them. Nothing guaranteed with this United side, of course.

    Lammens
    Mazraoui de Ligt* Shaw
    Amad Bruno Casemiro Dalot
    Mbuemo Mount
    Cunha
    ---------
    Subs: Heaven/Yoro, Mainoo, Zirkzee, Ugarte

Probably the best we can go for at the moment. Could be de Ligt, Heaven, Yoro, or Maguire at CCB. Whoever is fit and playing the best. We should probably try to use Mazraoui, Amad, and Mbuemo for possibly the whole game (unless there's an agreement with National Teams to sub them if we're in a realistic position to do so). So, if we can, I'd rather we sub off Cunha, Mount, Casemiro etc and move the position for the three leaving for AfCon after this).

I think we might need to try Shaw at LWB at some point in this game. Move Dalot to RWB and Amad to one of the no.10 roles, bringing Martinez on for a longer stint (30 mins~). I think the best back 5 might be: Dalot - Yoro - de Ligt - Martinez - Shaw for the games against Villa & Newcastle. Probably forced to sub on Dorgu/Heaven as he likes to change defenders a lot and Martinez/Shaw are probably at higher risk of injury looking at track record.

Casemiro is one yellow away from a suspension. We wouldn't want him to miss Villa/Newcastle when we're short on numbers, but it feels inevitable he will and we're so much worse at conceding goals when he doesn't play. However, I'd probably argue we're unlikely to beat Villa/Newcastle anyway  so we can only try and take care of the next game. Whatever happens, happens. I'd only protect him if we're in a commanding position like we were against Wolves.

I will admit, while it might just be lack of confidence/belief/match fitness at this point, Mainoo did look incredibly sluggish when he came on. You can see that there isn't much intensity in his play which is probably why Amorim isn't picking him to be fair. Although, I think Amorim himself has caused some of that damage. We could easily be in huge trouble for player availability, especially if we pick up an injury or two soon. We need everyone to be at it, I think Mainoo should get more minutes in midfield with Bruno ahead. Ugarte is so bad but he's going to have to play as well.

We/Amorim are incredibly lucky still. It feels like despite only having one defeat in nine, we shouldn't be as close to the Champions League places as we are. The fortunate part is that everyone is beating everyone, and because of this the fixtures are falling quite nicely for us. We've had a good run of opponents while the teams around us face each other. Even this weekend there's:

    Chelsea (5th) vs. Everton (7th)
Palace (4th) vs. Man City (2nd)
    Sunderland (9th) vs. Newcastle (12th)
    Liverpool (10th) vs. Brighton (8th)

Vast majority of these teams are within 3-4 points of each other. A win can change your position drastically, especially if some results go your way (even more-so if there are any draws). Pivotal to win, have momentum, and be consistent as it can distance you from this pack in a couple of weeks. I just don't think this team wants to take advantage, which is incredibly disappointing when we only play a game a week mostly. I still expect us to have another period where we faulter and end up looking more like an 8th place side than a potential 4-5th place side. We can't miss out on Europe again if the club want to execute the plans they have spoken of (new stadium, title by x year etc etc). But I think if we went into Europe without significant, successful recruitment then we'd look absolutely awful.

Said far too much there  but that team of players above and subs should beat Bournemouth at Old Trafford. Don't let it be three disappointing home outings in a row.

They are in bad form but Iraola is a clever manager who will look to exploit our system weaknesses.

    Im going for 2-2.

A must win with Villa away the following weekend. We then have Newcastle and Wolves at home. 9 points out of 12 will have us in a strong position going into the new year.

Thankfully Sunday night is the last day of my working week so I will be free to watch the match on Monday evening. :D

Got to be looking at winning this one to keep us amongst the top 6 unlike last season when we were amongst the bottom 6.

Starting to look like we really struggle with these home Monday fixtures. Need to get that monkey off our back.

We owe Bournemouth a spanking too - they've won 3-0 at ours the last two seasons.
We struggle with a lot of things tbh.

Bournemouth are a good team, so if we don't preform better than the last to at home we'll lose.

City beating palace isn’t guaranteed. Palace have been taking wins against city and Liverpool recently. Also have you not been watching any of our games this season, Amorim will never line up in a 4-2-3-1

I based that lineup on what I'd like to see, not what I think Amorim will do. For what it's worth, here's what I think Amorim will do:

    ...................................Mbeumo...................................
    .....................................................................................
    ................Cunha............................Mount...................
    .....................................................................................
    Dalot..................................................................Amad
    .....................Casemiro..........Bruno............................
    .....................................................................................
    ..............Shaw..............de Ligt.............Mazraoui........
    .....................................................................................
    ...................................Lammens.................................

I feel optimistic .. which historically meant bad things for us

But I think it's an Mbeumo kind of game. Bournemouth will press and we are pretty damn good on the counter if teams try to press us.

It will take a good performance, better than recent ones, but we're due a) a good home result and b) a good result against Bournemouth.

Helpful draws for Chelsea v Everton and Palace v City would see us in with the chance of closing things right up, even to second place. Personally, I don't mind Villa winning this weekend as I'd like them to get into the title race so Arse n City don't have it all their own way. They way that they played on Saturday, they might well be good enough to do that. Morgan Rodgers... blinkin' flip. Tough game for us next up, really need this one to be a W.

I thought Zlatan scored against them on his debut?

Edit: Apologies, thought we were playing away.

Same. We're scoring plenty overall, 3rd most in the league.

They're leaky, especially away, only Burnley let in more on their travels. 3 conceded at Sunderland, 4 at Villa, 3 at City, 3 at Palace, 2 at Leeds in their most recent away matches. It's only Spurs this season who didn't score at least 2 against them where Bournemouth kept a clean sheet.

Don't see why we can't score at least 2 as well, and hopefully that's enough for a win.

Not too sure we keep a clean sheet, they've been rare for us and Bournemouth have some firepower of their own. Something like 3-1, 3-2 or 2-1 to us would be my guess. Goals. Watch it be 0-0 now!

Need a win as the next two games are going to very tough without Amad, Mbeumo and Mazraoui. We still seem to have an aversion to winning back to back games but they are in poor form so think we’ll scrape a 2-1 win.

Is Heaven injured or suspended? Not sure why so many have taken him out as he's been excellent. Bournemouth are also one of the most direct attacking teams in the league.

    Personally I'd go with:

    Maz----De Ligt----Heaven

Then use Shaw at LWB. With Martinez coming back into the team it's a matter of time before Shaw is moved to LWB anyway.

When Maz and Amad go to Afcon I imagine Dalot will get moved to RWB as well.

If he's so clever, why doesn't he think to exploit every opponents system weaknesses and therefore not have his team in a bad run of form?

Because our system is pretty much the easiest to exploit.
Any clever manager pretty much overloads the midfield and gives Bruno zero space.

That's crazy. So we're 7-4-4 and third highest scoring team yet any clever manager can easily exploit us no problem? feck. That's a scathing indictment of Premier League managers.

They've trounced us 3-0 at OT for the past 2 seasons. I know they're in poor form right now, but given then we're shite at home this aint going to be easy. I'd settle for a 1-0 now.
Oh boy. We’ve scored third most goals in the premier league and create the most chances and we haven’t even clicked in fluidity yet. Mount has hit some nice form and hopefully he starts before Cunha honestly if Sesko is back.
Really hope De Ligt is back for this one. Not quite sure I'd trust Heaven at CCB just yet against a team that offer more attacking threat than the likes of Wolves and West Ham.
I know what you mean since it’s Bournemouth even though they haven’t won since October? I trust him. I like watching him play. I think he’s ready. Hopefully we see some of Lacy. I know Martinez, mainoo Dorgu Zirkzee had to come on but fifth shoulda been lacy.

Thank you, all this doom and gloom people doesn’t make a lot of sense. I think they assume no one should ever concede

    Another Monday night football game.

I was at the game against Everton and our intensity was really low.

Hope it won't be the case and we'll be better.

My concern is clearly that our team doesn't look fit, and we are struggling to play more than 45min.

Against Everton we started playing after the 30th min, but poorly.
Against Palace, we started in second half.
Against Wolves, we played ok 25min, then conceded, then ok the last 30mins against a veeeeeeeery poor side.

So we must regain some legs.

As for the team, it should be the same as against Wolves with Mount and Dalot.

    ----------------------------------------------------------Lammens-------------------------------------------------------------
    ---------------------------------Mazraoui------------Heaven---------------Shaw---------------------------------------
    Amad--------------------------------------Casemiro----------Bruno--------------------------------------------Dalot
    ------------------------------------Mbeumo----------------------------Mount-----------------------------------------------
    ------------------------------------------------------------Cunha-----------------------------------------------------------------

    Hope for a nervous 2-1

I'm actually astounded that we're only behind City and Arsenal for goals scored. It feels like we can't score to save our lives. The Wolves game obviously provided a big shift in that, but still, it feels like it shouldn't be true (even if we got 5 or 6 the other night)

The narrative is that we don't finish chances but have gotten better defensively. But we're pretty much slap bang in mid-table for goals conceded...

We've improved so much on set-pieces. I haven't checked, but I would guess that we rank more towards the middle of the pack in goals from open play.
