2-0 to United against a much weaker Brighton team than the one we last faced

United board to be characteristically short sighted and see it as a sign that no more signings are needed because Martial and Fred played okay

hard to think it won't be that predictable starting 11. they were the better team last year in the 1st game up until the red card, and the 2nd game was a complete joke of a performance so lets see what a motivated side can do against them.

Caf: "We need 11 brand new signings going into next season. Anything less than that is fecking criminal"

    Man Utd:
    Christ that’s depressing.

Have Brighton done anything of note in the transfer window?

Caf: "We need 11 brand new signings going into next season. Anything less than that is fecking criminal"

    Man Utd:
New manager, new season optimism, players hopefully fit and ready and i'm excited ....but my heart actually did sink when i saw that line up  :( . The club had months to plan for this season when last year was going hideously wrong.

So excited for this and for the season to start. Any NYC reds on here besides me, I will be chugging beers at Smithfield hall before, during and after the game. There are usually a ton of people from Manchester/England there so it is a ton of fun.

It'll be a very interesting match.

It's hard to tell where we are as a team because pre-season wasn't the best, but we should get a decent idea as Potter will attack us.

They're good at playing the ball out from the back so we'll see how organised our press is, and they're a decent pressing side so we'll see if we handle an oppositions press any better.

At least people will be able to see how much of a difference a decent manager makes.

Hope I don't regret saying that

    Can't wait.

No idea on what to expect performance wise but buzzing to get in to OT again.

Not confident at all, it's the same team as last season. Could be a painful first month.

The people in charge and the Glazers have not supported ETH. He must be stunned. I cannot believe that they didn't promise him more signings ahead of the start of the season. A total shambles and we are now overly dependent on Rashford and Martial. That is a gamble which might misfire.

Heavy defeat coming. Maguire large in the (penalty) area. Ronaldo completely corrupting our attacking play. McFred woeful in midfield. The ineptitude of Arnold and Murtough shining through. 0-3

There's still time and I believe we'll add at least one attacking player to our squad. Not sure it will be enough, though.

A new dawn begins. Tricky opener, but I'm getting right behind the lads. Last season is in the past so let's fall in love all over again.

I'd love Rashford and Maguire to get on the scoresheet in a hard-fought 2-0 victory.

It’s a disgrace ETH is essentially working with the same starting 11. What a disappointment this transfer window has been so far.

I think the critical mass of excitement that will come with it being ETH first game in charge will be enough.

However, it is hitting home how depressing this window has been. Imagine being told after the Palace game that we wouldn't have a single new signing in our first XI for the first game of this season.

Still, this can all turnaround quickly. You may say that I'm a dreamer but if we managed to get De Jong, Sesko and a RB over the line before the window closed. It'll look very different.

Why am I not surprised to see us starting the season with the weakest window relative to our rivals considering what we need versus what they need

    Absolutely patehtic by the club.
Was excited to see the new match day thread created then scrolled down to see this abomination.

I’m looking forward to opening day and Ten Hag being welcomed to a packed Old Trafford. Please can you go and do your cry baby routine elsewhere?

I think this will be a convincing win for us, I reckon 3-1 maybe.

Probably will be an overly cautious XI with McFred starting even though Fred at the base of a midfield 3 with Eriksen slightly ahead and Bruno at the top would be nice to see.

Im sure Maguire will start but I’d personally love to see Bailly and Martinez or Bailly and Lindelof - never going to happen though.

As I’m posting this just after midnight we can officially say the Premier League starts tomorrow evening - that’s something we can all get behind I’m sure!

Not optimistic at all, I think we'll lose. Just hoping for a decent performance and signs of progression. 2-1 Brighton.

Welcome back everyone. Going to start with a 4/0 thrashing of Brighton and also looking forward to the much improved outlook and input of the match day crowd.

We’ll smash these fukks this weekend, but will we be ready for Liverpool soon thereafter?

Not sure why people are so depressed about Fred and McTominay playing. We got second with them in the 20/21 season. But ETH is not playing them as the 2 DMs. More of 1 DM and 2 CMs with Bruno and McTominay acting as left and right CMs. The workload is more balanced as compared to the previous style of getting 2 players to manage the entire central midfield space.

Line up wise i see this formation :

    DDG
    Dalot Maguire Martinez Malacia
    Fred
    McTominay Bruno
    Sancho Martial Rashford

Subs : Varane, Lindelof, Wan Bissaka, Ronaldo, Garnacho, Shaw, Eriksen, Zidane, Heaton

Lost to Brighton 4-0 in May, first match of the new season hopefully at least a few signs of improvement instead of the same old shite from last season.

Reality check incoming. Draw or loss. Will be a precursor to a desperate panic buying in the last few weeks.

    That's my fear.

Another season and McFred remain the first choice midfield partnership.

We're winning diddly squat this season.
Can't even bring myself to a little bit of excitement because of this. Having to endure another game watching these dogshit midfielders

    -----------------------De Gea
    Dalot-----Maguire----Lindelof-------Malacia
    --------------------McT------Fred
    Sancho-------------Bruno------------Rashford
    ------------------------Martial

This is the team I think we will lineup with. Not sure if Shaw is going to be fit for the game so Malacia is in. The Atletico friendly gave us a clear indication of who is going to be starting the season. Eriksen and Martinez will come off the bench. Think we will ride the new manager and the Old Trafford effect. Going for a 3-1 win.

    Team should be...

    -------------------De Gea-------------------
    Dalot---Maguire---Lindelof---Shaw
    ----McTominay----Fred---
    Sancho-----Fernandes-----Rashford
    -------------------Martial-------------------

Subs: Heaton, Varane, Martinez, Malacia, Eriksen, Garner, Iqbal, Elanga, Garnacho

Bench is embarrassing, hopefully the starting XI have enough to get a win
That's the lineup and bench I expect too. Ronaldo instead of Iqbal though.
