We'll see some much improved changes from last season that's for sure, our football this season would generally improve with ETH but I'm afraid we'll still see individual mistakes. Line up would be...

    De Gea
    Dalot - Varane - Maguire - Malacia
    McTominay - Fred
    Sancho - Bruno - Rashford
    Martial

With DVB, Eriksen and Ronaldo coming off the bench 3-1 United.

We will win this comfortably imo. I see us having a good start to the season with performances beginning to drop towards the middle/end as the players lose steam adapting to this new style.

Brighton are a good side who play some good stuff under Potter, but losing Bissouma is a huge hit for them imo.

    3-0 United.

I think some of you lots love coming into these match day threads so you can moan and tell the world how depressed you always feel at the mere thought of United.

Worst part is that you'll post the same thing several times for some bizarre reasons.

Man I hope we stuff them, 3-0.

    1 x Sancho
    1 x Bruno
    1 x Rashford

    DDG

    Shaw
    Martinez
    Maguire
    Dalot

    Fred

    Bruno
    McTominay

    Rashford
    Martial
    Sancho
Martinez hasn't clocked up enough minutes of pre-season to be starting the season opener. He has as much as Ronaldo at this point.

This is a real test and a very tough one. How much possessions we can have in some sense tells us how much we have progressed in ETH’s system. My expectation is 55+%.

As opposed to the "sensible" 5-0 and 6-0 predictions.

Really thought we’d be starting the new season with a new DM… the 1 signing we desperately needed. Think it will be similar line up from last season, the only new signing I think may start is Malacia, think the front 3 will be sancho, martial, rashford.

We have to start Martinez and Eriksen imo. Both looked very good against Rayo and Eriksen has even already scored for us, against Wrexham. As for getting overrun in midfield, that would happen with McTominay anyway, so might as well get some creativity in there.

Hope we win. 2-1 United. Sancho and Martial to score.

Count on Maguire/Lindelöf and McFred starting. Don't think Martinez and Eriksen are ready to start yet, and VDB just doesn't start, regardless of manager.

We'll still win 2-1 or 2-0, Martial and McT scoring

It's refreshing to see so much optimism around here, but we mustn't be complacent. Brighton are a footballing team that can play football and score goals.

I think Cristiano will stamp his authority on this game, bag a hat trick, and kiss the badge in public defiance of those who suggest he no longer bleeds red.

    4-0 United win.

They wont have Cucurela too I assume and he was MOM against us last season.

Also I really pray we dont have many world cup attendees. It would really help us to have a mid season break when that’s happening.

Eriksen should at least be able to go 65-70 so I'll start him over Mctominay. Malacia/Shaw is a roll of the dice, if Shaw is fit I'll start him for this one. Ronaldo starts from the bench.

This shouldn't even be close. Brighton have made pretty much as much a mess of the transfer window as us. If I had to predict a result, I'd say we'll win but last season destroyed a lot of my trust in the club (new boss or not).

In the past two years we lost to pretty much part-timers (by comparison) in Istanbul (that was the moment Ole should have been sacked) and were hammered by a truly pathetic Watford team so I'm not confident of anything right now.

As I said, the one bright spark is that Brighton look to be in a mess too and I wouldn't be surprised to see them in a relegation battle this year

Lindelof was easily our best CB last season - although to say that is treason to some here
I like Lindelöf, he's a good CB. He has his weaknesses, mainly his weakness, but he's not worse than our other options. Still think Maguire Martinez will be the go to team once Martinez is match fit

Not really...they are new signings so don't always just slot straight in on day1. Martinez, Eriksen and Malacia are going to play a lot of game this season if they stay fit.

Fans need to start thinking about the long term not the short term. This is the start of a long road back.
Only one of them will strengthen us this season, maybe two. That's far from enough for us to get top 4. With our board I don't feel confident that ETH will get the time he needs

That doesn't say much does it. It was easily the worst defensive season I can remember and pretty much every defender had a dreadful season.

    I'd like to see:

    De Gea
    Shaw/Malacia
    Martinez
    Maguire
    Dalot/Laird
    Fred
    Eriksen
    Fernandes
    Rashford
    Martial
    Sancho
It’s really not that bad of a side when I look at them like this. Hopefully this is our league side and we rotate for the cups, anything else and we fail in every competition. One game a week while training under a new manager would be ideal

Yeah despite missing a few pieces, there's definitely something to work with here. People may call me deluded but if we can bring in De Jong and one or two others this month, then I think we are only one more window away from a side that can be competitive for the league. It doesn't have to take as long as some suggest. This is heavily reliant on us getting deals done though, which we seem to struggle with.

I think the Lineup Prediction needs work. Don't we have 5-subs from this season?
Yeah we should be able to pick 5 subs?
I could regale you with a tale about how Niall has been painstakingly trying to implement it since it was announced in March and there was no way of doing it without fecking up the past few seasons of lineup predictions.

Truth is, Niall forgot about the five subs thing until I mentioned it last night so three sub thing will remain. Will be interesting to see what the top points look like at the end of the season. Theoretically the top five or so should have a higher average with increased chance of getting 17 points.

I think the only new signing that may start is Malacia, and that's probably more dependent on how fit Shaw actually is than anything else.

Maguire will start with one of Lindelof or Varane. Both Fred and McTominay will probably start as well.

Martinez and Eriksen will most likely be on the bench, along with Ronaldo.

    De Gea
    Dalot Maguire Lindelof Malacia
    McTominay Fred
    Sancho Bruno Rashford
    Martial
    -----
Heaton; Shaw, Varane, Martinez; van de Beek, Eriksen; Ronaldo

Maybe Elanga will be on the bench over one of those. We should be able to name 9-11 subs these days if we can bring on 5.

Agree with most of what you've said. We can name 9 subs this season, so Elanga will make the bench too, plus one of the young kids I'd imagine.

I hope for something like this:

    deGea
    Dalot Maguire Martinez Malacia
    VdB Fred
    Sancho Eriksen Rashford
    Martial
But I think Ten Hag would at least give Bruno a few games before making that switch.

Doing a line up prediction makes you realise how thin a squad we have got, going to be a tough season for Hag if we have problems with injuries. Tough opener against Brighton, I just hope we play well and don`t get beat.

Potter wasn't going to make this easy by default, but with our shambles of a squad we are going to need a lot of luck to get the 3 points, even with the home advantage. That being said I think we win this.

    Manchester United 2 : 1 Brighton.
