Dorgu has pace and doesnt do shit going forward. I dont even need to say anything about Dalot. He shouldn't even be in the squad. If we had a decent option on the left then it makes sense to not play him there but we dont.

But at least Dorgu has pace, which Shaw does not. Shaw is doing a nice job at LCB and to ask him to bomb up and back all game would be asking too much of him.

That said, if our opponent parks the bus Shaw could be a useful additional body in the final third as an outlet when Dorgu or Dalot pulls the ball back, but Shaw is no longer able to beat a defender on the dribble to whip in a cross, nor is he able to cope with a marauding winger.

Prime Luke Shaw no longer exists.

Expect us to plop it long for this one too and fight for every second ball. Problem is we'll be up against a motivated Baleba who'll want to ensure that we sign the cheque.

Unless... Ruben decides to mix it up and play out from the back. Yoro's presence in the eleven will be the biggest hint.

I feel extremely confident about this one. If winning at Anfield doesn't make the team go out there and property batter Brighton, I don't when that will ever happen.
We have been scarred by our team and understandably so and I am being delusional but I don't want anything other than a convincing win

    :)

We just have to accept that Brighton is a strong, well balanced side, a solid upper half of the table kind of team these days.

Nah, feck Brighton. We have been good at Old Trafford, on the back of a huge win this past Sunday. If a fan isn't confident now, he seldom will this season.

Sick of losing to this lot. Can we batter them please.

We lost last year at home because Onana gifted two stupid goals to Brighton

Not sure what happens in this one.
After looking on the official site and seeing their gallery titled "Heroes Return" does not surprise me why we are so up and down in these games.
Same as anyone I suppose in that I need to see a consistent good level of performance before I am confident against any Premier league opposition.

Huge test this. Both teams in similar form results wise, our home record vs their away record could edge this, hopefully.

    Lammens
    Yoro De Ligt Shaw
    Amad Bruno Casemiro Dorgu
    Mbuemo Cunha
    Sesko

I of course wouldn't mind Mainoo over Sesko and Cunha further forward with Bruno at no.10.

Most of our bad moments against Liverpool (and in other games) come from Bruno or Dalot losing the ball in advanced positions. I think Dalot is so poor, but I have some sympathy for Bruno. He should of course do better, but it's understandable that to get the best from him he needs to play his usual game and get into the attacking third. If he was playing as a no.10 and lost the ball, we'd be less exposed as there would be two midfield players to potentially break up the counter attack. When there's only one and it's Casemiro, it becomes more and more likely we will get overrun.

We just need to have some momentum now. It's been long enough, try and get 3-4 wins on the bounce and we'll be challenging top four potentially.

These are the types of games that we need to start winning. We’ve dropped far too many points in these types of fixtures.

Just win. Hard fought, scrappy, don't care. Would be lovely if Cunha could get off the mark, his performances more than warrant a goal.

you say it like it's something wrong, it was extremely clever against Liverpool, drawing Van Dijk and Konate out of their box

It worked well… once. Teams will figure this out and counter. Brighton will counter this idea when the moment comes - take it to the bank.

It’s not sustainable as a football tactic as it’s not exactly process oriented long term. It’s too reliant on how opponent defenders deal with that first long ball. It was an ingenious idea versus Liverpool to design the team to fight for 2nd balls, but we need more weapons if we want to have sustained success against high press-high

going to be a true test of the players and amorim with how they react in the build up and the match against Brighton after winning at Anfield

if these lads can't put in a proper performance then we know there is more of an underlying issue within the club and the players

Both can be true, I'm confident that we can beat Brighton, but I'm also aware that they are a decent team and are perfectly capable of beating any team in the PL including us

Yeah, it wa a tactic deployed specifically for Pool and it just shows the manager has tactical nous.

we'll play different against Brighton at home than at Anfield I'm pretty sure.

I reckon Sesko comes back in. It was a pretty genius move to take him out agaisnt VVD and Konate who both relish a physical battle. I’d expect Sesko to get far more joy here.

As much as I would like to see sesko play, from what I have seen from the highlights of how Brighton play which seems to be through the middle, I wouldn’t mind mount starting to make that midfield more compact. Not going to pretend that I have Brighton closely this season.

I haven’t checked the data, but it feels like Brighton are our biggest bogey team.

Never confident playing them, but I’m hoping the momentum from the Liverpool game will see us scrape a win.

They are going to score. So to win can we score 2-3 goals against them is the question?

Suits us much better to not obsess over playing out from the back. There are times for it, but also why focus the ball among your least talented players? Just push it forwards.

Trust me I agree. It's better for us to play to our strengths than pretend to be something we're not presently. That being said, we need a game plan for the moments they lock us in second balls. That's all I was saying.

Need 3 points in this one and start to build some confidence and momentum!

Have to start finishing more chances and putting more goals on the board.

    Come on Lads!

It’s a sad state affairs that I expect us to not show up for this after a decent performance Sunday.

We always seem to do this. Good result against someone we are expected to have no chance against and then the following week against a team we should be beating we get brought back down to Earth.

It’s kind of like the players only raise their game when they are up against it and treat these games like they are the better team and don’t need to put in the effort.

I do hope that we go in to this and make a statement as nothing would be better right now than putting a marker down and smashing someone after this last weekend.

Make people scared to face us again rather than looking forward to it.

3 in a row? This should be one of those weeks where no European football helps us. Usually we’d have some crappy Europa game before this to help Brighton out.

So now we need to see how Ruben can tactically adapt to beat an entirely different type of team in Brighton.

What we need is 3 points. If points come with a regular 1 goal win, it’s Ok as well

Brighton are a very tough and technical side but I do agree with the importance of being positive and direct.

The pace we had early on with Amad and Mbeumo did certainly make Liverpool think twice about overcommitting on that flank.

I also think he will go with Mount again. The high pressing that he does was really effective at Anfield and early on it can bring about defensive errors.
