Hard to nail the starting XI spot on for this one. But I'm not sure it matters as the gulf in class between our B squad and whoever they've got is substantial. But then again, their new manager sincerely believes that his squad should be competing for the top half of the table in League One right up there with Port Vale and Peterborough.

I'd go with this, though with Maguire in instead of Martinez. Hopefully Mainoo from the bench and half an hour for Martial and Martinez.

@Damien when do we get Mainoo in the team predictor?

Ah shitter. You're probably right about him not playing but with VdB injured I thought it would've been good for him to come in.
    Ahwell, he has time yet
He is young. Time is on his side as long as he keeps his development and performances in this positive trajectory.

Rest everyone barring Martinez. Possibly some game time for one of the young midfielders?

    Antony Elanga Garnacho

These lot are 17th in League 1, if we can't afford to start Elanga, Maguire and one of the young CMs here then there's really no point having them in the squad. Be nice to bring Martial on later in the game to try to get him a goal if possible too but that would be either a luxury or because the starting XI isn't doing the business.

I think Martinez probably starts after being left on the bench tonight. Ideally you'd want to rest Eriksen but with Fernandes' suspension it's difficult to see where the creativity comes from if we don't play him.
    Give Iqbal an opportunity?

Provided we get job done we could do with City and Newcastle drawing each other

It's a risk starting Martial, but he desperately needs a goal. We might also see Lisandro get some minutes.
Bruno, Shaw, Casemiro and Rashford need to be rested at all costs.

Save Rashford, Varane and Casemiro for City and Arsenal. Our width in the attacking area is really poor, so we will probably have to play the same players a lot. Hope they can keep fit and sharp.

Butland/Heaton, AWB, Maguire, Martinez, Malacia, McTominay, Fred, Elanga, Garnacho,

That's 9 players and I don't know who to put in 2 places: number 10 and striker. With Bruno suspended and van de Beek injured, it leaves us with Eriksen and we need him to be fresh for City and Arsenal. Same goes for Martial as striker. Squad depth is our problem, absolutely have to get someone this month.

Actually, as odd as it sounds, wonder if we could see one of Martinez or Lindelof start in CDM role, with McFred infront of him and then we don't need Eriksen to start. Yeah it doesn't sound great but just a thought.
If anything Martial needs to play his usual 60 minutes again. He needs match sharpness and right now he's quite far from sharp.

More than a goal he needs match sharpness. He needs as much game time as possible to get there.

He might get some minutes but I was thinking more at number 10. If Bruno and Eriksen are both out, there's nobody else to play that final pass and give us the cutting edge we need in the final third.

Annoyingly Sancho is one who maybe could, but I don't think we're going to see him for a couple more weeks yet.

If I was playing football manager, this is the one I’d go with but I’m sure ETH will go slightly stronger.

Think DDG, Casemiro (came off early), Antony will all start.

    Dalot (need minutes)
    Martinez (likewise)
    Maguire (he'll be fine, hopefully!)
    Malacia
    Mctominay
Eriksen (I don't fancy him to start vs City)
Zidane (if not now then he should go on loan)
    Garnacho
Martial (overall he hasn't played all that this season should start).
    Antony (there's no other option)

Perfect game to field McFred, as work rate is the one thing you can guarantee Charlton will put in.

I wonder if we'll try and field all of Maguire, Lindelof and Martinez from the start.

Charlton League one outfit as are Sheffield Wednesday who knocked Newcastle out of the FA Cup tonight.

Could be a tricky tie especially as i would not expect ETH to go with a full strength team.

    McTominay--Fred
    Antony--Eriksen--Garnacho

    Team vs City should be-

    DDG
    Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Shaw
    Eriksen - Casemiro - Fred
    Bruno - Martial - Rashford
So rest the majority of these players apart from Martinez who needs game time.
