    My line up and thoughts:

Gk: DDG (but can be any of the three)
LB: Malacia (potential to give Williams minutes if we are cruising)
LCB: Martinez (needs to get back to match fitness)
    RCB: Lindelof or Maquire
    RB: AWB
    DM: McSauce
    CM: Fred
CM: Eriksen (sub for Mainoo or Iqbal at 60 mins if we are comfortable)
    LW: Garnacho
RW: Antony (needs match fitness, would take him off after 60 mins for Elanga)
S: Martial (needs more minutes and a chance against weaker opposition to gain some confidence)

Wouldn't even bring Casemiro or Varane. Rashford on the bench if we need a goal.
Nailed it, I think. Only quibble would be Dalot might need some game time to regain full match fitness.

    ETH’s first real test.
Charlton used to be such a dream to play against. They never parked the bus, always tried to play football against us - and we hammered them 9 times out of 10, and the 10th was a draw. The team in P.L we have the best record against - think it was something like 16 wins and 2 draws

I'm just going on The Caf
I remember a game against Charlton at the end of the 89/90 season. It was the week before our cup final v Palace who Charlton were ground sharing with at the time and hated. They were already relegated and their standing fans sat down on the terraces behind the goal and were singing " We're going down We're going down you're not ". It was a great atmosphere and United Road sang back " We'll be playing you next year." They also sang at us "You're going to win the Cup " as obviously we were playing their nemesis in the final.
We won the game 2-0 and there were great scenes at the end where rival fans were swapping scarves and having a good laugh.
They presented the United fans with an award a few years later for having the most sympathetic fans.
Coincidentally city were playing Palace that date and also sang " You're going to win the cup " to which the Palace fans replied " You're just a bunch of w@nkers ".

    Buttland
    AWB-Victor-Martinez-Malacia
    McT-Fred
    Antony-Eriksen-Garnacho
    Martial

Any chance of Sancho in this? If so would love him från the bench.
Still not in team training. Think we won’t see him till later this month/February.

Thats a shame, fingers crossed his back (and in a good state) sooner than later.
I just like yourself was hoping he’d get some minutes against Charlton as ideal opponent to ease him back into the fold against and gain some minutes but more so confidence in himself. But if he hasn’t resumed training with the rest of his teammates yet then safe to say, we ain’t going to see him for a while and I doubt ETH is going to throw him right into the deep end against both Man City & Arsenal.

He could literally turn out like a new signing if ETH has the same sort of impact he has had on Rashford. Just hope this time away from the spotlight & constant scrutiny has done him the world of good and has him in a much better frame of mind.

After Arsenal, we’ve got some so-called favourable fixtures lined up before the Barcelona game - Reading (H), Palace (H), Leeds (A). Ideal opportunity to get him some minutes & confidence in those.

Will be a tough game if we rotate a lot, but need before City and Arsenal. (we may lose 6 points in the top 4 race and be distanced very soon, so important to rest a maximum of player)

    ------------------------------------------Butland------------------------------------------
    Dalot---------------------Maguire--------Lindelof--------------------Malacia
    -----------------------------Mc Tominay--------Fred--------------------------------
    Elanga-------------------------------Eriksen---------------------------Garnacho
    -----------------------------------------Martial-------------------------------------------

I would play Dalot for 60 minutes, for game time, would also play Martial the same minutes and give Rashford and Antony a go after that.

If Pellistri can't get some minutes here then we might as well assume he never will.

Sorry if it has already been asked, but what happens if it is a draw at FT?

Would it be extra time, or straight to pens?

In the last round Charlton beat Brighton on penalties. They played 5-4-1 and parked the bus. Since then they have a new manager but i fully expect them to play the same low block tactics And look for 0-0 and then penalties.
we will not get counter attack opportunities unless we are leading forcing them to have a go.
we need to play a team that can unlock a packed defence.
id play Garnacho and Anthony in attack and maybe Rashford or Martial at least until we are ahead and then rotate them out.

it will be a tight game until we score.

Don't see the point of signing Butland if he doesn't play here as opportunities will be limited and DDG is rarely injured, with an eye on next week but also putting out a side strong enough vs a Charlton side who will want to make a name for themselves, I'd go with:

    Butland/ Heaton
    AWB Maguire Lindelof Malacia
    Mctominay Fred
    Pellistri Iqbal Garnacho
    Elanga

Genuinely think that should be strong enough with Rashford, Bruno and co coming on for the last half hour if we need it.

Was at that game. A great atmosphere and am sure there was quite a few of them in Fancy dress doing the conga as did part of K stand.

Why is this not on TV in the UK??
So the lazy locals can enjoy the match from the comforts of their armchairs instead of paying for a ticket and filling up the stadium? You should really be ashamed for being so entitled.

Everyone has butland in there starting 11 which means De Gea will probably play again  Hope not though. Give Butland or Heaton a game. Need to make a few changes here as we have a massive game Saturday.

Except Spurs plays Arsenal and City in the league on the 15th & 19th and then plays City again on Feb 5th. We also have a game in hand while Newcastle and Spurs don't. Newcastle has some easy fixtures upcoming but Feb/March could be tricky for them Liverpool, Brighton & City in consecutive matches

    AWB - Lindelof - Martinez - Malacia
    McTominay - Fred
    Antony - Eriksen - Garnacho
    Martial

Little shocked by some of the predicted teams. Don't see why we would risk Butland, he's been at the club a few days and De Gea wasn't at the world cup, I don't see why he needs rested. I think Martinez needs minutes, so don't know why he wouldn't play. Antony I think has been a little off the boil since the world cup and we don't have much cover in attack so would start him. Wouldn't be shocked to see Dalot for similar reasons.

#10 is a problem for this one. I'd start any of DvB, Sancho, Amad or Mejbri ahead of Eriksen to give him a rest, but non are available for different reasons. Could possibly go with Iqbal and play Fred further forward like that time he played well there for 10 minutes. I don't think I'd trust Mainoo there yet, but hope to see him at some point if we are leading.

Up top is between Rashford and Martial as we don't have anyone else. It will probably be 60/30 either way. I'd give Martial the nod, just because he is better suited to that position.

There really isn’t any excuse for a cup game midweek to not be on tv, or the very least a streaming sight like Amazon.

We get taken for proper mugs.
They are only played over two days so they pick one game for Tuesday and the other from Wednesday

Yeah, that's the team I'm expecting / hoping for as well.

Obviously it's a busy period, and rotation is needed, but we also need to maintain momentum and push for a trophy.

That starting XI is as 'weak' as we should go. It allows some key players to be rested, but should also be strong enough to get the win. Although, once again, the weekend has shown how league 1 and 2 clubs can beat weakened PL sides in one off games - as did Charlton's win v Brighton in the last round of this Cup. So I'd still like to see the likes of Rashford, Casimero, Shaw, etc, on the bench should they be needed for the final half hour or so.

If McFred can't handle this one without Eriksen and Casemiro they should just call it a day

Eriksen should start this one alongside McTominay, with Fred and Casemiro playing against City. We need some creativity in the side with Bruno suspended and VDB injured.
As for the City game I feel Fred is a better fit for it. Eriksen was very poor at the Etihad as he couldn’t cope with their pressing.

Yeah, I'd definitely start Eriksen tomorrow with Fernandes unavailable.

Charlton will be defending deep, and will be a packed, reasonably organised defence. It will require moments of skill and vision from some of our more technically gifted players to break them down. The likes of Fred, McTominay, Iqbal, Elanga, etc, aren't going to produce those moments as the main ball players.

They'll play their role with the ball, but I'd like to see some of the likes of Eriksen, Antony, Rashford, Martial, etc, starting as well - in order to provide the quality on the ball that should make the difference.

Rashford should probably only be used as a sub - if needed at all. But Antony and Martial could do with the boost of a decent performance / producing end product, and Eriksen is needed for his quality on the ball with Fernandes missing, and the likes of Casimero and Rashford probably rested.
