Energy and legs in Midfield. Fresh look and a feel good factor of Greenwood up top. We need to mix it up and add some passion. All 11 players in the second team above would give 100%.
Change jones with Victor, I'd like to see something like that.

    Yeah, it’s Arsenal we’re 2 points behind.

Even in a scenario where we win against Chelsea and Arsenal draw at Leicester (a very positive turn of events) we’d remain 6th on goal difference. And thus still require both rivals to drop points in the final 2 games for us to have any hope of 4th.

We’re at win-and-hope territory. It’s out of our control, even if we win the remaining 3. One more slip up and we’re left in the dust.
This is certainly THE must-win game, assuming we win the last two easily (does anything come easy for us?). I do think Chelsea drop points to Watford or Leicester and Arsenal will drop points to any of their minefield of opponents, but we need a loss out of them.

    Romero
    Young Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    McTominay
    Dalot Pogba Martial
    Lukaku Rashford

    Greenwood
    Fred
    Herrera
    Mata
    Jones
    De Gea

Let's just keep our heads down and get this lost out of the way. Then battle it out with a team with the same quality, Huddersfield and Cardiff. Ambitious I know.

I swear people who want Matic and Mata to play can't have watched us play once this season.

Have you not seen how pedestrian these players are? Their complete lack of energy, impetus and aggression. We need to win the game. Not have the slowest build up in the history of football ever.
I've got no idea what I want XI I want to see really. I know I want a back 4, three central midfielders, a right-footer at RB, a left-footer at LB and no Martial.

Just gone for United 3, Chelsea 1

    I believe !!!

But not seen much from our players recently to support that.

Are we going to see a reaction or just more empty words?
I don't doubt they are trying, but there can be a lot of wasted effort when you aren't functioning as a team and are low on confidence. I just want a familiar shape with players in preferred positions.

Because Chelsea have Watford and Leicester away left among EL semi finals while we have relegated sides. Wouldnt surprise me if they drop points in both.
Arsenal also have EL semi finals, but also have Leicester away and Burnley away. They either lose one or drop points in both and we get in.

It's not exactly asking for favors or unlikely scenarios. Everyone just plays as they have been all season for the last 3 games, with the slight exception of United winning this weekend (slight because Chelsea are woeful in tough away games and at Old Trafford), and we finish 4th this season.

United fans while being all dramatic about everything havent seemed to realize that Chelsea and Arsenal are equally woeful and inconsistent.
Cant see Arsenal not dropping more points. Win this game and its ours to lose imo

Arsenal need to drop points in two games though, so it's no given.
I can see us losing 4th on goal diffo unfortunately.

Just looking forward to a game where it's us to win, with no other considerations. Wednesday was a horrible premise!

Romero needs to be given a chance. Chelsea usually give us problems and we're in terrible form. Hoping for a quick goal from us so our attackers get their mojo back.

Nope. They're only two points ahead. A single defeat is enough to put them behind us in the event where we win our remaining games.

Nope. Win this game and we're still behind Chelsea on goal difference (unless we smash them by 4 goals or more, which is not gonna happen) and we need to finish above them too. So we need both Arsenal and Chelsea to drop more points, even if we win on Sunday. Not just Arsenal

Or just lose 1! But yeah that's where they are favourites, though it's pretty tight. 1 loss and it's done for them. Same if they fail to win twice

Ah good point, I'm mixing them with Chelsea who DO need to drop in 2 games due to their way better goal diffo.

I like this, mixes it up a bit. Try players in different positions to give them something new. Greenwood deserves a break.

Would be half tempted to start Chong as well and put Rashford on the bench for a quality energetic sub.

I am sorry, but these players have never shown how they can play. A good game here and there in the season is not "showing us".

For starters, I have never seen a more brainless lot in the final third, not getting on the end of passes, inability to deal with 1 on 1 situations, lack of awareness and positioning, frittering away any chances created etc. One can say we probably have the worst forward line among any top 6 teams across all major European leagues without it being an exaggeration.

Everybody has to be up for this. We need the high tempo back and we'll need the OT faithful to roar in this game. The players need to be raring to go in this game too and i'm sure Ole will have them fired up.

I think we'll win this by a couple of goals with hopefully Romero in nets.

Im confident. If we want top 4 then earn it.

And take the chances when we get them.

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    McTominay
    Pogba Sanchez
    Rashford Lukaku Martial

    Just attack with aggression.

The outcome of this game depends on whether Hazard turns up. If he does, we'll probably lose.

    What I would try:

    Romero
    Dalot Smalling Jones Shaw
    Mctom
    Fred Pogba
    Sanchez
    Rashford Greenwood

I like this, except I’d have Lindelöf over Jones just because he brings the best out of Smalling whereas Jones, er, doesn’t. I love Jones’ commitment though.

I’d keep Young at RB as well. Defensively he’s pretty decent and you can’t fault his commitment.

It does look like Herrera is persona non grata. If he wasn’t I’d have him in over Fred.

Greenwood should certainly be given a go. The attack has been absolutely dire, Ole is constantly banging on about “youth”; it’s time he turned his fine words into actions. Some will say that parachuting a youngster into a dysfunctional team will “destroy” him mentally, but if he’s got what it takes he will be able to cope with the challenge.

If he plays in the U23s tonight, guaranteed he won't even be on the bench.

It's Chelsea not Fulham at home. They are very unpredictable. Not sure if it's the right time to risk him. Last game of the season if 4th is gone, then yes

    McBench or McDrop again?
So disappointing the manager just doesn't rate him.
    What?

Played him Vs Barca home and away but doesn't rate him?

I think my ideal line-up for this game would be:

    de Gea
    Dalot Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera McTominay
    Lingard Pogba Sanchez
    Rashford

We need to try and get some energy and pace in the team, along with getting Pogba into the penalty area more often. We can't put crosses into the box because no one is going to win a header, so we need Pogba to break forward at every opportunity and take it in turns with Lingard/Sanchez/Herrera/McTominay to get in Jorginho's face and stop him keeping Chelsea in possession. Young is just poor lately and while Dalot didn't have one of his better games last time he played, I think we should just roll with him and Shaw at full back to get forward. Playing both Herrera and McTominay deep should give our defence a bit more help against Hazard as someone should always be able to stand him up one on one while the rest are back as cover.

I think it's time we gave Sanchez a start as his movement looked great in the closing stages against Barcelona but we've just not had enough creativity or confidence to find him. He looks full of running, must be training rather well and has had a couple of substitute appearances, so I think it's time we gave him an hour. Lingard has looked shot of confidence, but I'd still trust him more than Martial or Mata as it stands (especially the former as he looks scared to attempt a take on). Lukaku's touch is just abysmal and seemingly more than ever at the moment, I don't think we can risk that in a game like this. Rashford isn't in good form either, but he's basically our only player who can lead the line right now so it has to be him.

I'm saying 2-1 United, but it's going to be nervy.

I think Solskjaer seems pretty happy with our performance against City and will play a similar side, possibly with McTominay in for Pereira and Lukaku/Martial in for Lingard.

    This.

Truth be told, I was dreading that City game for absolutely ages because it was always clear that we were going to have that dilemma. People can talk about being or not being a 'true red' based on what they wanted to happen but no one can deny that it was a horrible and conflicting scenario.

There's not much to suggest we're going to step up, but there's not much to suggest they will either. They will be there for the taking if we are in any way competent. I honestly believe Pogba will be instrumental, and I see us nicking it.

And again, thank feck we can just fully hope and pray for a victory with no other repercussions, that in itself is a relieving feeling.

I look at it as no lose.
If we win we could still steal top 4.
If we don't, then it doesn't change what we need to do anyway and its thankfully almost the the of the season.

Im also glad it's my first weekend game at old Trafford in a strange season I've been to 8 evening games!

I guess if we don't win this I can get excited about some youth players coming in against Cardiff and Huddersfield, since we'll have nothing to play for.

That is unless the other top 4 challengers feck it up too and drag us right back in yet again
