Chelsea are so inconsistent to the extreme.
Played Real Madrid off the park for 70 minutes before tiredness and RM substitutions turned the tide.
They’ve put in some top performances in the PL this season as well, but in the next match struggle or turn to shit.
Today they won 1-0 at home against West Ham, with a solitary, late 90th minute (injury time?) goal.

If we’d converted our chances against Arsenal yesterday and not given away a stupid penalty, I’d be more confident.
Then again, if we put in as good or better performance than that and actually managed to score some goals, beating Chelsea might be possible.

It’s going to depend as much on what version of Chelsea turn up on Thursday, as on what sort of effort and performance we put in.
    Gut feeling…I’m not hopeful.

Are either of these teams going to give a shit about this game? Chelsea are pretty much nailed on for 3rd and have a cup final soon and us…well we’re just being us, waiting to hit the beaches of the Med or Florida.

I can see both teams half-assing it and mixing up their team selections.

Might wanna play the youth at this point, also put in ronnie on there as well, might be the last time we see him in a united shirt...

Is Cadavers actually going to play for us again this season or has he fecked off back to Uruguay?

This will be a close game, probably not much happening and if there is a winner, likely decided by a mistake. Chelsea have a thing about Utd/Arsenal where it doesn't matter if they've lost 5 in a row, 10 in a row, the same match repeats itself every season. Mistake on mistake, slipping on the halfway line, underhit/wayward pass backs to the keeper, 1 in a million Rashford freekick goal, Matic turning into Prime Vieira.. I'd take a 0-0 now and get it over with.

Chelsea have top 4 secured and won't want any injuries before their season saving Cup Final v Pool.

I don't think they will batter us, bore draw maybe.

As long as Ronaldo scores a goal ill be happy.

Even if its a 4/5-1 loss.

Is this an autocorrect or gag that he’s halfway to the morgue as a player?

I think Ralf said words to the effect a few weeks ago that United have declared him fit but Cavani himself doesn’t think he is.

    Are you serious?

    Surely they're not that bad?

Well, they were only able to score 2 goals against Arsenal (who put 3 past us).
So, I think 4 goals is about right.
Our form is akin to a team in the relegation zone. In fact, I would argue that Norwich are playing better than us right now. Norwich put 2 past us and without Ronaldo, we'd have lost that game.

They've been pretty naff lately, so 4-0 to them.
I think Ronaldo could score 1.
It seems so unfair on Ronaldo that a top-class striker is wasting his time in our team.

Ah it's just my nickname for him. So he's bailed on United too then. Very disappointing from him when we could have done with him.

Thursday nights boys and girls, get used to'em.
I'll never understand contempt for the Europa League, especially when we're probably not even at that level at the moment anyway. I love any European competition and I'll be looking forward to seeing how Ten Hag does in that comp next season.

More opportunities to see what the new team is all about. I'd take a Europa League final over nothing any day of the week. All the hype about the Champions League to get dumped out at the first hurdle as Arsenal will soon find out next year.

Self-entitled fans need to give their heads a wobble.

That left back situation is yikes whatever way we look at it, but Telles has got to go. Bruno definitely needs some dropping but only a few games left and only youth as backup so unlikely. Maybe Rashford in and Sancho as the 10. Either way uninspiring. Only a few games left...

It doesn't matter now. We will probably win this along with our other remaining games and just miss top 4 thanks to all the points dropped in the last few weeks but this will be enough to persuade the board to hand contract extensions to the entire squad for turning the corner.

3-1 defeat at least with United likely gifting all goals to Chelsea with a comedy of errors. Timberland boots Lukaku to get his name on the score sheet after missing a few sitters beforehand.

I wouldn’t bother playing players who won’t be here next season due to contract situations.

    De Gea
    Dalot - Varane - Maguire - AWB
    McTominay - Fred
    Sancho - Bruno - Hannibal
    Ronaldo

Is Fred back for this game? I’d be tempted to go Fred/mctominay + Hannibal. Sancho, Ronaldo, rashford as the front 3. The LB position is becoming a joke lately, telles is always caught out of position, could play dalot there but don’t think he’s that good on that side. It also means having a right back that’s not good at attacking in AWB. We can’t just have 2 full backs that are good either side at attacking and defending can we.

I agree about the Europa - said it elsewhere: in the days before winning it got you back into the CL, it was a bit pointless. Now it possibly represents our best chance to get into the Champions League the following season

Part of me thinks this is the sort of game that a perverse team like ours could do well in, then reality sets in. I we score first, we might get something; if they do, heads will drop and that will be it

We've become a bit of a Charity FC lately, just gifting goals away for fun, so a random 2-0 United win is not out of the question. We're in this weird position where I feel like we're safe in third but I look at the table and 5 points doesn't feel like a secure enough gap, even with a game in hand and the big GD.

My last home game of the season as I won't be able to go to the Brentford game.

    It's nearly over thank god.

Credit to you! How far is the travel for you to get to OT? This was going to be my last fixture but it got re-arranged to the Thursday. No chance I was coming up from London on a weekday for that shower of shite now. Theres a line to be drawn

Not far - just over an hour for me... I definitely wouldn't be making a trip up from London for it!

Hilariously the 3 home games I haven't been to this year were Norwich, Spurs and Brighton... so I haven't actually seen us win at OT since West Ham back in Jan...

Think this may be one of the most boring matches of the season if the Chelsea and United of recent matches each show up.

United players checked out because they feel they have nothing to play for anymore. Chelsea players checked out because they’ve felt it’s job done for top 4 (it isn’t yet!). This has low quality 0-0 or 1-1 written all over it.

losing with no more than 3 goals would be decent, sad but this is our situation atm.

We can barely keep a clean sheet and unless Ronaldo puts in a GOAT performance, we can't score more than 1 goal.
We are 16th in the form table (based on the last 6 matches).
Bottom of the league Norwich - the worst team in the league - scored 2 against us.
It is astounding that anybody who knows the above can suggest that we could win 2-0.

Fans need to stop making excuses and making out that we can beat a top 3 team. We are dreadful and unable to win unless Ronaldo scores a hattrick.
    My prediction is 4-1.

So, you seriously think that we can win the EL Trophy?
Given our form and the way we have played this season, I would love to know why anybody would think we could win any trophy, let alone the EL trophy, which is notoriously difficult to win.
Next season, I don't even see us winning the 4th place trophy.

We played an Arsenal team that had lost 3 on the bounce to a random assortment of midtable teams and we conceded 4 at home against them. We conceded 4 at home to Brentford and 5 across 2 games vs Real Madrid. Trust me, you'll score against us. There is an 'on the beach' vibe around the team despite top 4 not being secured yet.
