Signings or no signings, we should be winning this. Opening days can create a sense of optimism so I hope we're up for it. The opening game of 2006/07 completely set the mood for the season to come. I hope we show similar energy.

Also, it is imperative that we start fast because Palace have got a couple more games than us already and will definitely be more match ready. The longer it drags at level or minor lead, the more chance Palace would have.

Palace have been a bit of a bogey side for us at OT recently. Their counter attacking style really works for them, so it's mega important we start fast and don't concede early.

Can't wait to get back to it again!

    1-0 to United.

Can't recall being less excited for an opening match. Ole's not been backed and this season is going to be a bit shit with no fans

People forget that season where we only signed Carrick and Kuzsczak and excelled after selling Ruud.

And I seem to remember Chelsea making big money signings that summer as well

I think Palace are gonna play some decent stuff this year. They always have a good defence and with Eze, Zaha, Ayew etc up front they should carry some threat. Has the lad from Brentford signed for them yet?

We should win this andI guess I expect us to do so. But I wouldn't be hugely surprised if we don't. We are still in the mess I've been talking about for two years

I’ve got a feeling we’re gonna start horribly, like absolutely shocking & go 1 down. Think we’ll come good in the second half though & probably win the game.

    Very tough game.
Palace have already played 2 competitive games. Utd have some players still not back.
Palace won at OT last season. Hope I'm wrong , but can see it being a big struggle.

They signed Shevchenko, Ballack & Cole, adding three world class players to a squad that had already walked the league the 2 seasons before. It looked like they were going to walk the title in pre season & were fancied by many for the CL. I remember a lot of people questioning wether Fergie had lost it around that period. We certainly didn’t look 2 years away from a CL win that’s for sure.

Im just watching the training video from our website, and one more time I'm hoping Ole has to make up his mind not to play Rashford. Suddenly the left side with Rashford and maybe James has been poor in term of quality. Diamond or any sort of formations without them is fine by me.

We were actually so much worse than just 2 years away from CL win at that time since we finished bottom (4th) in CL group of 05/06.

I'm very excited to watch our first PL game this weekend. I miss our football and watching MMM trio, Bruno & Pogba. I don't know why people can't be excited watching them again, people need to stop moan about the lack of transfer.

Tough game for us mostly due to the question marks over the front line. I thought we played quite well in the Villa friendly but it was a loss because of the lack of an end product. Rashford looked bang out of form and I don't know if Greenwood is ready. Success seems to hinge on how well Martial does in the first game back.

You want to play a diamond with our fullbacks? Do you actually know how that formation works?

Any early squad news or training pics yet?

I really feel like at least one of Bruno or Pogba will not start, due to the birth of a child and having Covid-19... Must mean that both of their pre-season preparation has been sub-par. Similar for Mason Greenwood with the England antics and having to train away for a bit. At least it should mean we have a couple of strong options on the bench.

    de Gea
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Fred
    van de Beek Bruno
    Lingard Martial Rashford
    ---
Henderson; Williams, Bailly; Matic, Pogba; Greenwood, Ighalo

I admit that I have many pops at Ole for not being quick enough making subs, however not surprising when he only has Donny to choose from

Palace are ahead of us in terms of competitive match fitness so I expect us not to play that well but to get a win over the line. 2-1 United. Hopefully Martial and Rashford get a goal apiece to get their goal scoring antics up and running from the very start.

Too much negativity around the club currently. We really need a good performance and win in this match.

Palace is no Barca or Real, but our squad is not ready yet. 1-1 draw or may be a lost.

United's Twitter Account and Official website had plenty.

Basically both Bruno and Pogba were back in training since last week.
    • Pogba Friday Sept 11' (holiday but we know he has his individual training program)
    • Bruno Sunday Sept 13' (trained and played with Portugal NT before, then few days break with family, should still maintain sharpness)
Enough time to prepare fitness for this weekend game. Hopefully Ole start both so we can attack Crystal straightaway... no time wasting. Substitutions by Ole tend to be too late. Play them early to get match sharpness quickly. The fixtures going to be congested, get points and hit consistent stable good form a.s.a.p.

Axel is still out. Other than him, we should have full squad.. unless another recent injuries happen.

Just have a feeling with all the other top teams starting with a win, we're going to mess this up and start with a draw.

    De Gea
    AWB - Maguire - Upamecano - Telles
    Pogba - Van de Beek
    Sancho - Bruno - Rashford
    Martial

    In before the other muppets.
The annoying thing is that we could've pulled off all these transfers this summer and had this side going into the new season.

Good to see us back. I reckon we'll win 2-0.

    Penalty x1, Maguire x1
Nice optimism. Hopefully we'll be well on top of Zaha and Townsend. They both played well last week and will have a game of match fitness over our lads. If we keep them quiet we should win this.

Never understood the pessimist in every match thread before a game, regardless of opponents quality. It also doesn't matter that we are undefeated in the league for a while now, the Caf go to response to a match day thread is self pitying and acting like God had forsaken them.

Also don't understand why transfer activities clouds people's perspective of the reality of this game. Just because we didn't splash cash(yet?) and muppets dreams weren't fulfilled doesn't mean the superior quality our current squad have over Palace will just disappear or go on strike protesting against our board for their lack of investment this transfer so far.

This should mostly be a comfortable win for United. We simply have too much quality compared to Palace and there is simply no reason to be pessimistic about this game. But this is the Caf, the self pitying, self loathing and victim mentality is what it's mostly about.

Look forward to Van De Beek's first game as he is sure to play in place of Pogba.

You don’t know if Ole hasn’t been backed, you also don’t know if his targets have been unrealiatic or if players are refusing United because of Ole.

I'm most looking forward to seeing our goalnets at the start of a new season. We had some beauties over the years. My personal favorite are the soft nets, which hugged the ball when it hit:

Now the nets are too stiff. A worrying trend in the English football.

Anyways, hope the front three are all fit. We have no one to replace them and that would massively impact the shape if a non threatening RW enters the fray, like Mata or Lingard.

Think we'll be up for this. First game of the season, we had a bit more rest than other teams so we have no excuses not to go at Palace with everything. Hopefully Pogba starts and we can bring on VDB during the late stages.
