Fred should play. He didn't play much so far and needs game time to settle.

If I were Jose I'd throw in a couple of talented kids to raise spirits...Romero, Dalot, Bailly, Jones, Young, Gomes, Matic, Pereira, Greenwood, Sanchez, Martial! Get the papers talking about us for positive reasons for a change (if we win)

This club has been a part of my life ever since I could remember. It's such a weird sense of loyalty that despite everything I still celebrate every win and get depressed when we lose...wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Me too mate, I'll be there through the good and the bad. It will not be easy but I will enjoy the ride back to the top. (whenever that may be ;) )

Prefer not to see Jones and Lindelof together tbh :nervous:
I'd prefer not to see Jones to be honest but we need Smalling and Lindelof to be fresh for two big games against West Ham and Valencia, so we need to use our full squad at some point.

This is the perfect game and perfect time against lower league opposition. We just have to trust that some of our squad will put in decent performances.

Excited to see Dalot, but I'm still suffering a massive hang-over from the Wolves game. Being 8 points behind Liverpool in the league weighs on my mind even when watching cup games.

Still, hope the likes of Dalot and Pereira get a chance and impress. We need more flair, energy and creativity in the starting XI and maybe the young players can stake a claim for it.

Derby have a chance. Mood at the club and among fans is not great at the moment and it somehow feels poetic that Lampard knocks out Mourinho.

Hopefully we will see few youngsters getting chances, also good time to try Pereira as right winger.

Am I the only one who is more "up" for this than our league games? Chance to see something fresh, maybe someone to have a standout performance and force their way into the proper team.

Would like to see Bailly, Dalot, Pereira, Fred and Martial at #9. Also pleeeease put Greenwood on the bench, stick him on for the last 15 minutes if we are winning

    Some early team news

Before United played Wolves, Mourinho confirmed that Dalot would be starting against Derby.

Rashford misses this game through suspension, and Rojo is the only player unavailable for this match due to injury.

    Rule changes

There have been a number of rule changes to the Carabao Cup this season. These include (credit to MEN):
    • No more extra-time - games ending in a draw will go straight to penalties
    • ABBA penalty format scrapped - it was trialled last season but went down pretty badly, so the EFL have gone back to ABAB
VAR will be used at all Carabao Cup games at Premier League grounds this season and yellow cards picked up in these games will no longer count towards suspensions in the Premier League.

Thinking Herrera will start now to add some much needed tenacity to the midfield. He'll only play an hour tops though and be replaced by either Matic or McTominay depending on how the game is going. It's a pity Rashford is suspended, as he'd actually get to play 90 minutes as a central striker in this game if not. However, it's his own fault for being a bit naive.

I hope we start Sanchez up top tonight and allow him and Martial to interchange poisons as the match goes on.

We have to find a way to get the best out of Sanchez as we are stuck with him.

Definitely feel Fred needs to start. The guy needs as much gametime under his belt as possible to get accustomed to English footie.

Yeah, kinda. Hoping it'll be fun to see something fresh/different. I've got high hopes for Dalot :)

Can someone tell me how I don't watch United foe sometimes? I became so frustrating watching us play and at the same time I can hardly miss a game! But I need to get used to us being so shit. Really it is unhealthy for me these days.
Just enjoy seeing us play & hope we win but don’t think we have a divine right to win every game.
Only 1 team can win the league every year so just enjoy seeing us play & see what the boys can do :)

No option for Chong in the lineup predictions. Think he will start against Derby.

Pleasantly surprised by the lack of line-up selections with half of the U18 team in this thread

More of the same tonight then judging by the pool of players he'll be picking from . A few unknown academy prospects would have made this a bit more exciting, I rarely enjoy league cup games. Half empty stadium full of kids on school trips.
