    I would play:

    ---------De Gea -----------

    Rafael -- CB -- Rojo -- Shaw

    --------Blind --- Fletcher---

Januzaj --- Mata --- Di Maria

    ---------RVP/Falcao--------

I know we are unlikely to change our shape but I don't like the sound of Fletcher in Herrera's role, he doesn't have the legs any more.

I went with 5-3 for this one. Poor defending and excellent attacking players will mark this one (as expected). Falcao to score 3 or more! :)
that'd be perfect as i'm going Falcao captain fantasy footy wise this week. Costa v Arsenal surely isn't a better bet.

Van Persie seems to be getting the goals, with Falcao assisting though.

I have a bet on with a Gooner Falcao scores more PL goals than Welbeck this season. He needs to start scoring soon!

Guy at work has a similar bet on, between him and 2 others. The third player I can't remember, but it's not Costa or Sturridge.
You can tell he's a buyer/arch negotiator though, as he's managed to do it on all competitions, but excluding Falcao's goals for Monaco this season!
Therefore, Welbeck's on 4, Falcao 0 so far.

Falcao needs to step it on!!

If I'm not mistaken, Welbeck hasn't scored 4 PL goals. Most of his goals are in CL.

First real test of the season. Will be interesting to see how our defence fairs against a proper attacking threat a win here would be brilliant and put us on the track to top 4 again.

To be honest, I'm a little wary of this fixture, even at home. Our forward line is insanely exciting but let's face it, our backline is not exactly inspiring. We have a lot of absentees in defence and the likes of Coleman, Barkely and Lukaku can punish us if we give them enough space. Then again, I watched Everton yesterday and they only came alive in the last twenty minutes or so. They didn't look at all convincing so you've got to wonder whether that lethargy they showed yesterday will carry over to the weekend.

Sorry, that was the work chaps one....it's "all goals", even though he managed to negotiate out Falcao's 2 Monaco goals.
Balotelli was the 3rd player involved, just remembered

Actually now that I think about it, Barkley's not going to pose a threat. Mostly because he's injured.

I think we'll see Mata in for Rooney and Valencia in for Herrera.

Everton apparently have injury doubts over both McCarthy and Coleman?

Not too sure of the line-up honestly. I think it will be one of these two drafts:

    1st Predicted Line-up:

    _______________________________________________________________________

    1. De Gea

    2. Rafael 33. McNair 5. Rojo 3. Shaw

    17. Blind
    24. Fletcher (c) 7. Di Maria
    8. Mata

    20. Van Persie 9. Falcao

    _________________________________________________________________________

    Bench:
    13. Lindegaard, 42. Blackett, 25. Valencia, 16. Carrick, 44. Pereira, 11. Januzaj, 49. Wilson

    2nd Predicted Line-up:

    __________________________________________________________________________

    1. De Gea

    33. McNair 5. Rojo 42. Blackett

    2. Rafael 17. Blind 7. Di Maria 3. Shaw
    8. Mata

    20. Van Persie (c) 9. Falcao

    ___________________________________________________________________________

    Bench:
    13. Lindegaard, 25. Valencia, 16. Carrick, 24. Fletcher, 44. Pereira, 11. Januzaj, 49. Wilson

Prediction: Man Utd 3-1 Everton (Mata, Van Persie, Falcao)

So am I right in thinking he didnt use the word "philosophy" in that presser? Or did I miss it?

If not, is that the first time that has happened? Its like seeing a Tory speaking and not mentioning "the mess Labour left us with", it just feels... incomplete.

The Valencia/Fletcher/Pereira conundrum seems like the only selection left to predict. McNair and Mata have both been confirmed to start courtesy of Van Gaal on MUTV. Still a good team nonetheless.

I'm gonna say it'll be this:

    DDG
    Rafael McNair Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Valencia -------- Di Maria
    Mata
    RvP (c) - Falcao
Do I like Valencia playing there? No. I still think it will happen though.

Indeed. And I would rate Fletcher's chances as being less than those of Valencia or Pereira given LVG said he had told the players who would be captain on Sunday. If Fletcher was starting, it would be obvious to all concerned that he would be captain, as he is the official vice-captain. Outside possibility that Januzaj gets the Herrera role.

I think the fact Mata is all but confirmed means Valencia will take Herrera's place to give us a defensive safety net.

I do think Valencia is more likely to play better on the inside. He does keep possession well and will carry out his defensive duties, plus he and Rafa do dovetail reasonably well. His passing is limited, though, which is why I'd rather play Darren. Fletcher can pass it very well on a good day.

Either way there are pro's and con's. Herrera being injured is such a massive ballache.

I have a nervous feeling about this game. Young unsettled defense against Lukaku and Naismith.
Midfield slow and less physical. I think Flether will play and not Valencia, and he might be the captain too for that match. We can certainly win it, but we will miss Herrera and Rooney badly. And, McNair and Rojo will make mistakes which will be capitalized on by Lukaku and co,.

Lukaku is going to beast that backline. Wonder what odds you can get on a Rojo red card - could see him getting in Lukaku's face early and picking up a yellow, then making 1 mistake later.

Watched Everton in Russia - they were playing like a training match (and should have been thrashed, fluked a draw). Don't think they'll be tired at all, and Lukaku only played 45.

Big test for Van Gaal. I'd make EFC favourites, despite their poor form to date. Think this could be a Leicester type scoreline.

Good post. Indeed, big test for Van Gaal. We definitely have a team to beat Everton. It will boil down to training and tactics a bit more than the other games. May be Everton are not at their best, but he needs to drill our players to number up quickly in not exposing our defenders on one on one vs Lukaku or Naismith. And, we need to have a well-drilled practice of when to pas out of defense and when to hoof and where to, as ADM upfront can cause them trouble even if he gets a sniff of the clearance.

Oh, how much I'd love us to win against them and go up the table as much as possible before the chelsea match. But, that most likely is not going to happen. Not after what I saw vs Leicester CIty and West Ham.

Christ, hold your horses there. What do you think Everton fans are saying about Di Maria and Falcao? they far outweight Lukaku's threat, who's in very poor form.

Hold the phone soft lad, we're Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Everton are playing sh!t this season. They did a smash and grab job last year even with Moyesie here.

Falcao, VP, Mata, Di Maria. Who do Everton have to match that lot? Lukaku?

for me herrara absence is no problem whatsoever, darren fletcher and luis antonio valencia can both play his position and i have no doubt at all that whichever play van gaal chooses they will do a wonderful job on the day. if only jesse lindegaard was fit to play i think he would be even better to play that position, for first time in ages we have a great depth of midfield roster to select from. really exciting to see the biggest club in the world and my favourite team play in any game, can't wait for sunday. manchester united 3 - 0 everton

Looks like mccarthy has a hamstring problem, mirallas will be out and seamus coleman/ pienaar are touch and go for the game for everton. Distin wont play, stones is better. Everton will be a little weaker without mirallas and mccarthy but if coleman returns, they will be ok, he is one of the best attacking outlets they have.

There's not much of a better time to play Everton. Lots of key players out, not in good form, Europa league complicating things, and we're playing a meagre one game a week!

Yes we have a slightly risky looking centre back combo, but the rest of the team is pretty good.

Except the players out are actually getting fit and may be coming back for our game (coleman/pienar).Lukaku always has a good game against us and we cant seem to be able to defend set pieces. Its goint to be a close game, i think everton will score one from corner/free kick atleast.

I guess we will have a really good first half an hour as we did in the previous two games and some nerve wrecking moments in the last half

Valencia might be replacing Herrera in the right or else Van Gaal would've mentioned that Fletch will be the captain for this game. Probably a Cameo for Fellaini and Januzaj.

Going for a 3-2 Victory. 3 goals up front and conceding the 2 late in the game and defending for our lives at the end :P

I'm still haunted by that 4-4 game 2 seasons back.

4-2 up, and Evra hits the post. Oh we thought so little of that at the time. Then Fellaini smashed us up, the defence went walkabouts, and even a 90th min Rio 30 yard left footer couldn't sneak in for us at the close.

Lukaku - whilst exceptionally physical - has had a very poor start to the season. I'm a little worried, but people are going a bit over the top with him against McNair. I'd actually say that Valencia may prove to have been more of a threat for McNair, especially considering recent form.
