Why is everyone putting Rooney back in? Feck that.
I think, to be fair, mostly because they're desperate not to see him back for our next PL game.

Miki, Carrick and Darmian should play. Otherwise stick with with it to try and build a bit of momentum. Depay and Fellaini could come on at some point, but shouldn't start.

Apparently my prediction for this game is 5-0, which is funny because I don't remember doing that!?

They are currently in 2nd place domestically right now...5 points behind Shakhtar, I think. Just like Shakhtar, they settled in elsewhere in Ukraine due to the ongoing civil unrest. They might be very motivated and might be tough to beat.

Because we're playing the reserve team for this one.

As Ibra + Rashford will start against Stoke, Martial is injured, we have only Rooney as number 9 to play against them.
Plus if rooney comes back in for this there is no circus, but if he remains benched all everyone will yalk about is how hes out the team.

Start him, then drop him for the league match.

We know Rooney is going to play but I wonder in which position. Personally I'd like to see Martial get a run out as the #9 and I'd put Micki at #10 and play Rooney as the RW.

I think Rooney will play the 9, helping him break the record quicker to help accelerate the process of fecking him off

Mkhi needs a start (only had one so far and we know how that turned out). Rooney I feel, we will see as the 9 and it'll be a 4-2-3-1 with Carrick as the 6 and Schneiderlin in front of him. Young and Memphis/Martial (leaning towards Martial, with Memphis to replace him at some point in the 2nd) will be the flankers.

    Something like this:

    Romero

    Shaw-Blind-Bailly-Darmian

    Carrick-Schneiderlin

    Martial-Mkhitaryan-Young

    Rooney

    GK - Romero
    RB - Fosu Mensah
    LB - Shaw
    CB - Smalling
    CB - Bailly
    CM - Herrera
    CM - Pogba
    AMC - Miki
    AMR - Memphis
    AML - Martial
    ST - Rashford

I think we need to keep the CB's & CM's together to see whether we can encourage a partnership. The rest I would look to try and get some confidence into players who maybe haven't done great but could be big players for us if they get their act together. We need to avoid playing Rooney but I fear he is almost a certainty to start

We're better with him in the team.

    2nd half against Leicester:
    -without him playing: 0-1
    -with him playing: 0-0

    Numbers never lie.
    With Rooney: 4-1
    Without Rooney: 0-0
Basically, Rooney is good at implementing LVGs 0-0 philosophy. Back passing. Side passing. Rooney is LVGs main man.

As much as I don't want Rooney in the first XI, as long as it means he isn't starting the next PL game then so be it. I would like to see Blind stay at LB (Rojo should never wear the Utd shirt again). Apart from that the only changes I would like are TFM, Tuanebe to be given a chance. Keep the rest of the team settled.

Sky saying Rooney will start this and be on the bench for Stoke.
    Good.

Is JM doing press conference tomorow? If so, would love to hear some good, quality questions, not Rooney this, Rooney that..
    Is he taking it seriously?,
What is with Mkhitaryan, is he ready, and Martial, Shaw?
    What about Darmian, Memphis?
Is he going to rest a lot? Ibra? Val?

I have no idea which team to submit, or what to expect.

btw, my first post in match day thread, my life is completed now:drool:

My exact thoughts too. Keep him away from our top four/title hopes and I'm happy. He's at least earned the cup games.

Hopefully no mercy from United in this one. With Rooney or without team should be able to win these type of matches without making it look so effin hard.

Just bag the 3 points and start building some sort of consistency on October.

Don't know why some are putting Tuanzebe on their line-up prediction. He played a full game for the U23s yesterday.

Whats Mkhi's status for this game? Im guessing Martial will be completely rested to be ready for Stoke at the weekend.

Martial (if he has recovered from concussion), needs to play as many games as possible.
    He is in dreadful form.
The Watford game summarised his season so far. He was tackled hard. He fell down and never got up; like a boxer who had been knocked out cold. It was as if his mind wasn't in the game.

We need to break that cycle of him getting beaten up in every game and the more games he plays, the more quickly he can get some form.

Hopefully Mkhitaryan will play in this game. I want to see feature a lot more, we haven't had a proper look at him yet.

Play Rooney in cup matches so he is dropped for the league.

    No idea.

People see to ignore the fact that Zorya could be awful. If we win 5-0 and Rooney scores 3 that someones gran could have scored, he's validated all over again. He needs to sit out while we play ourselves into some form with a consistent team.

We play these guys, then Stoke. Then it's an international break. We don't need to rest en masse.

Hopefully this guy is fit and ready to finally show us what he is all about. This team are a bit of an unknown quantity so I would not risk the calamity duo of Depay and Rojo starting in a game we must win. Carrick, Rashford, Herrera off the bench if necessary, the likes of Depay and Rojo if we are cruising.

Personally would not have Pogba, Zlatan, Bailly and De Gea in the 18.

3-1 - Martial and Shaw injured still??

So Ibra starting, Rooney probably bench because he picked up a knock and barely trained, no Mkhitaryan, no Shaw, Martial fit, and a stronger team in general. Lingard at the press conference so I usually assume those players start too. My guess:
    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Bailly Blind
    Fellaini Carrick
    Lingard Mata Martial
    Ibrahimovic
Rooney in for Mata if fit enough.
