Agree we rotate, but not too much, we need to finish this season on a high and have momentum going into the final. Leave out Casemiro, Varane, and Rashford, play the rest.

What did Ten Hag do at Ajax in these situations? Did he give fringe players a start or still stick with his main players?

Assuming we going with a similar team that beat City at Old Trafford, we can expect this side for Fulham game as Erik will want to finish 3rd

    De Ge
    Dalot - Maguire - Lindelof - Malacia
    Scott - Fred
    Sancho - Eriksen - Garnacho
    Weghorst

    Subs
    Eriksen -- > Bruno (60')
    Weghorst & Sancho ---> Martial & Pellistri (70')

Just seen that Fulham will not be able to move from 10th no matter what happens on Sunday, so at least they won't be fighting for a result. Hopefully most of them will already be on their holidays and won't be clattering our players, reducing risk of our players getting injured. Maybe there'll be some sort of revenge for the FA Cup quarter final game?

Can see ETH going for a strong lineup to keep momentum up and cement 3rd place. Newcastle have Chelsea away and despite Chelsea being shit, I can still see them getting a draw which would help us.

It seems like what happened to Antony isn't an enough warning to play key players.
    It's mental for me.

Why risk anyone in a completely meaningless game? There's absolutely nothing on it.

All so we can say in 10 years time 'dya remember back in 2023, ahhh we beat Newcastle to third! Scenes!'

Crazy. Nobody starting the cup final needs to start this. It's why you have a squad.

Surely nobody should be worrying about rust sitting out one game.

True, mate. Another slight injury to our best XI, and our slim chance of winning the FA Cup becomes close to none.

I guess a bragging chance is hard to let go for some. Forgetting that this will be a 3rd game this week or so, with the other 2 we've played full strength.

Obviously I do get that there is an argument around momentum and sharpness...so I'm not totally devoid of understanding people's opposing opinion

We all know the cup final is an uphill battle I suppose and could do with our best possible starting 11 on the day to maximise that chance of being right at it in a one off game.

Though, say if Rashford plays and scores a couple we talk about great momentum going into the final....if he picks up a knock and he is out it's a pointless risk.

Meh.. we have opinions, and it won't change anything anyway. We could win 25 - 0 against unmotivated Fulham, and it won't matter against highly motivated City.

If we finish 4th, do we still have a qualifying game for the Champions League? As that would add an extra 2 games which can be avoided to the start of next season.

Caught between trying to win this to finish third and rest players for the big one next week. I'd play Garnacho and Pellistri and Iqbal, youngsters that are in and around the first team. Only chance to give them a run out. Also feel like Ten Hag owes Iqbal and Garnacho for not allowing them to go to the U20 world cup.

ten Hag made it clear that he not only wants to finish third, but he wants to keep the momentum. Therefore, I don't see a wholesale of changes. I think players like Martial and Sancho will need to start to give them that much needed confidence, following decent performances against Chelsea.

Rashford should start because he's just coming back and needs to get into the flow, although he was good when he came on, too.

Shaw, Varane and Casemiro are the three I possibly wouldn't start.

Shaw went off against Chelsea, so I wouldn't risk anything. Varane struggles with two games a week, and if Casemiro is arguably our most important player.

    Therefore, my team would be:

    Martial
    Rashford Bruno Sancho
    Eriksen McTominay
    Malacia Lindelof Maguire Wan-Bissaka
    De Gea

    Fred, Garnacho, Dalot, Weghorst

If Chelsea can score the goals that they create, then there could be an upset, not expecting anything though, I think most of Chelsea's players can't wait for the end of season.

Last year the match he clinched the Dutch league which was the 2nd to last match of the season, his side was

    -----------Haller-Tadic
    ---------------Klaassen
    Taylor----Alvarez---Berghuis
    Tagliafico-Blind-Timber-Mazraoui
    -------------Stekelenberg

The next match 4 days later which there was nothing to play for and was the last of the season the side was

    --------Brobbey-- Haller
    -----------------Tadic
    Taylor----Alvarez----Berghuis
    Tagliafico-Blind-Rensch-Regeer
    -----------------Gorter

For Ajax there was really no exact situation though where they had just played days before and then had a cup final a week later.

Are you talking about the qualifying round? Because that's gone. 4th goes to the group stage or are you talking about just not wanting to finish 4th?
There was a period of about 10 years where Arsenal had no chance of winning (or even challenging for) the league but would consistently play to achieve that 4th spot so as they would still scrape into the Champions League. It was embarrassing some years watching them celebrate clinching 4th spot as if they'd actually won the Champions League itself. It became a bit of a running joke about 4th place being Arsenals yearly trophy hence my post saying qualifying in 3rd place avoids that stigma of the Arsenal cup.

I think this what will happen, given how petulant Fulham was in that match. They will approach this match like a cup final, and if it looks like they can't win they'll start with horror tackles and confrontations trying to injure our players and goad them into red cards.

In all my life I can't recall when wholesale resting players has done anything but backfire. Opponents always come in sharper and we show up lethargic.

Ten Hag would put out relatively strong team and most of the players expected to play against City would also be involved in some capacity .

Which I believe would be right thing to do .

Between the end of the Chelsea game and next Saturday's FA Cup final, it's 8.5 days. Barely over a week.

Why in the f**k do we "need" to give players another game in between, in a season where we've already played 60+ games?! Madness!

I hope we don't rotate too heavily tomorrow. Go for the win, and take some momentum into the cup final. Finish 3rd, potentially only 6 points behind a team who were favourites to win the league 4 or 5 weeks ago, not a bad season.

ETH wants to keep momentum going , and I’m sure if he felt someone was in need of a rest he’d rest him .

And for all you "momentum" merchants, what if Erik plays his strongest side, we're not really at the races cos of the game Thursday night and the fact we've already qualified for the CL, and we end up getting turned over by Fulham? What "momentum" will we get out of that?!

Whoscored.com reckon United will go with a strong starting 11.

    DeGea
    Wan Bissake.Varane.Lindelof,Malacia,
    Casemiro,Eriksen,
    Sancho,Fernandes,Rashford,
    Martial

It would work, but wouldn't be great prep for the City match where Sancho looks likely to play on the right.
I have a feeling Ten Hag will go for a similar 11 to the one that beat City in Jan. Bruno on the right and a midfield 3 of Casemiro, Fred and Eriksen.

Rest whoever played the last game. Bring that last momentum into the FA cup. The Fulham game is just a warm up for the reserves. Leave the first team alone and no momentum shift will be created, good or bad. We need the energy and no injuries to go full throttle against Citeh

Won't play Casemiro, Shaw and Varane and maybe Bruno. Rest should play. Sancho is a confident player so should build on his performance. Rashford looked a bit rusty so should play for 60 mins. Fred and Mctominay can use a game. Maguire should play ahead of Varane. I won't mind trying Eriksen as number 10. Shame Sabitzer got injured.

We would be hard pressed beating Fulham with our full strength side anyway so not worth taking the risk of incurring any more injuries.
I would play Sancho as I think he is getting a bit of form and I would like to see him keep it going and Garnacho and Martial need time on the pitch but apart from them I would not risk the others.
It will be the last game for Fulham and they will enjoy the season they have had so I think it will be an open game so our attackers should get a chance to express themselves.

I’d keep Casemiro, Varane, Shaw and Rashford wrapped in cotton wool.

Bruno is Bruno. He’ll play. Sancho and Garnacho will probably play either side of Weghorst.

Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Malacia, McTominay and Eriksen to play behind them I’d imagine.

With a week to recover afterwards, I think we’ll go with a full strength side, barring anyone carrying injuries or coming back from one.

He will not rest anybody. Fecking hell Zidane should have left to go to the WC.

Nice win today to make it 25 unbeaten at home. We’ve only conceded 9 goals at home this season which is the best in the league. That’s a massive improvement, rotate players but end the season on a win and gain some confidence going into next weeks game.

I appreciate the discipline EtH has brought to the club but not letting a young player go to the toilet is where I draw the line personally.

Give Rashford a half to gain some match rhythm, then bring Garnacho on. Martial and Eriksen also look like the need some minutes to maintain/regain match fitness. I'd start Fred and give him 90 minutes to shake the rustiness off ahead of the City game. Give McT 30 minutes to check how's he doing after being on the sidelines for so long. Probably worth playing Sanco as a RW for 90 minutes to get a taste of how he might cope there against City. One can hope that Maguire will get his farewell game at OT. I think we'll be OK. I don't expect it to be a game where tackles and high elbows will be flying in.
