Took Carrick 2 games to get back to back wins. Let’s make it 3 in a row. 2 home games our next matches. Let’s make it count

Frustrating that both Chelsea and Liverpool won yesterday. I’ll take an own goal in the 102nd minute.

First one to slip up a couple of times could see 5th slip out of their hands. We can’t be slipping up during home games now.

It's still in our hands, we need to match their results for the remainder of the season - they have been as inconsistent as us and have more games.

I don't know if that's criticising the poster but it was a valid point. We've failed to beat 16/17th/18th/19th. We beat 20th but failed at home.

We've managed to beat 1st/2nd/4th and 5th. So there has been a motivational issue/unable to best teams sitting back.
We hardly beat a top team either and more often than not you should beat the lower teams

Much tougher match for us than the bookies would have you believe. I think we will see a draw.

Who we have bigger chances to beat
From the examples you gave? Well, let's look at the results I guess.

We've been not bad against Fulham and City. Woeful against Arsenal and West Ham in past seasons.

    Past few vs West Ham - 1W 4L 1D
    Past few vs Fulham - 3W 1L 2D

    Past few vs Arsenal - 1W 4L 1D
    Past few vs City - 3W 2L 1D

West Ham and Arsenal have given us the worst record and our best record is against City. I'm not disagreeing that we should be beating the likes of West Ham, my point is that we haven't been doing so.

    Say slip one more time.

Especially Chelsea! To come back from losing 0-2 until 60th minute and go on winning 3-2 with a goal in injury time!!! Fecking West Ham! How could they collapse so badly. Super frustrating

    Carrick's first real test.
 bit much. Winning over Arsenal was clearly the toughest match. This one will be hard for different reasons but let's now not get crazy and claim that it is tougher to beat Fulham than top-o'-the-league Arsenal. That is ridiculous

    Good stuff lads.

Anyway. We will win this 2-0.
    Amen, mate

Going for 2-2, with Carrick we are more of an unknown quantity in these games but Maguire, Martinez, Casemiro and Mainoo will find it tougher when there is more space for the opposition.

Win would be important not just to keep pace with Liverpool and Chelsea but also to build a gap to everyone else so hopefully Carrick has found some solutions to some of the teams limitations.

Yeah, well Carrick doesn't need to play Maguire in a game that we need to be on the front foot in. He has Heaven who was doing great before Maguire came back, and he has Yoro who has struggled a bit but we know is a quality CB

If Carrick doesnt know these players as well as 99% of fans do, he doesnt deserve to be our head coach.

Maguire is our best CB, and also a big threat in the opposition box. He and Martinez played well in the last two games, there’s no need to break that up.

It’s a different type of game, but we also have momentum, and reasonable defensive solidity (certainly against City), that we haven’t shown in 18 months.

There is no such thing as "our best X". It all depends on individual attributes of a player and what you need in a specific game.

When we sit back Maguire is rock. When we need to attack with high line, Maguire is huge vulnerability. Anybody who has watched United in the past years knows this. Doesnt take a PhD

I would start with the same CB pairing, but it is legitimate to be concerned about how Maguire-Martinez (shielded by Casemiro & Mainoo) will perform when the team is no longer playing in a low/mid block as we did against City & Arsenal. All four players are good at winning duels in confined areas, but none are great at covering space, which they will need to do if they start vs Fulham.

Are you the real Clayton? I took a picture with him at the Victoria Warehouse in 2023.

    Continuity is also important.

My bet is Maguire will start. If that’s the case, perhaps some people actually know more than you?

It is legitimate. I think the other qualities outweigh them. We have been so defensively poor with a complete lack of organisation and understanding for so long, that I wouldn’t break it up.

If De Ligt was available, then it would be a more difficult choice.

Surely it’ll be the same team as Arsenal but with Cunha coming in for Dorgu.

He can start Rio Ferdinand, for all I care, and if he wins the game he will be right to do so. It is all about results, but fact remains that "continuity" or no, Maguire has well known limitations and Heaven is a great young CB who has proven himself enough if we need to use him, including recently. It is not like Carrick has no choice

No one is saying that Heaven is not a top talent.

I think it will be about how we start the game, we have to be at 100% from the get go and get a goal then control the game.

I think we win it 3-1.

Playing Maguire and Martinez together when we are the protagonist who are likely to have more of the ball and with a higher line doesn't really make sense. That looks vulnerable to counter-attack.

I suspect Carrick will continue with the same lineup(Cunha for injured Dorgu), but it doesn't seem tactically wise. One of Heaven or Yoro should start this game, as well as Sesko(physical/poaching presence in the box).

We’re gonna blow this lot away in the first 30mins, just need to take our chances which I think we will.

Curious if Sesko will start or if it's going to be Mbuemo with Cunha and Amad out wide.

We've just had 2 really good wins against 2 really good teams. We're at home. The crowd will be up for it. The players will be chomping at the bit. Can't see anything other than a United win
