i reckon Ole will play this

    De gea

    AWB AXEL LINDELOF TELLES

    MATIC FRED VDB

    MATA GREENWOOD JAMES

subs- pogba, fernandes, fish, grant, williams, elanga, amad, cavani
I’d be happy with that. Good rotation with some experienced players coming in.

Need to keep Greenwood’s form going as well.

We're not playing Wycombe. I think we'll play a strong line up with Shaw, Pogba, Cavani, Bruno
Shaw is serving yellow cards suspension together with Maguire and McTominay.

But I agree that we'll line up strongly with Pogba and Bruno, Cavani as well if he feels like it.

What’s the scoop on Bailly, injured? Never really know with him. Trying to decide if it’ll be Axel or him with the Lof

It's like everyone forgot him... However, I doubt that Ole is going to put Williams in for AWB since Maguire and Shaw are already forced out. Actually hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see him making three changes at the back. (Scotty being forced out of the midfield doesn't help the situation, either.)

Bailly is still out with Covid. Either hasn't tested negative yet or still needs time to recover.
Damn it, I presume Phil Jones is just permanently injured at this point so I’m going with Axel which doesn’t fill me with much faith at all. Wonder if he’ll be tempted to play Matic or McT at CB or go 3 at the back

Why does nobody want to rest AWB?
Agree with all of the previous answers.

It's a QF of a European tournament. If they score first then it's game on again. And we're already missing Maguire, Bailly and Shaw from our defence. So we already have an understudy LB and a young understudy CB in the back four. It's really not the game to rest our first choice RB for another young understudy in Williams.

Also, as was pointed out, he was one of the few to have a rest during the international break due to not being called up, so he should be fit enough for tonight. But if he does need a rest, then do so v Burnley when we've got Maguire, Shaw and maybe Bailly back in the team.

McT is suspended along with Maguire and Shaw.
I'm pretty certain our back 4 will be AWB Lindelöf Tuanzebe Telles

We don't have enough players to go 3 at the back.

Unrelated to this match, but we should probably rest Maguire against Burnley since he's 1 yellow away from 2 game suspension meaning he'd miss Leeds and liverpool. (After the round of 32 against Burnley the limit will to to 15 for the remaining 6 games).

What exactly is Jones' injury anyway?

Tuanzebe has been confirmed to start. Jones is back in training but will probably need quite some time to become match fit.

Had an operation on his knee last summer. Has suffered some setbacks since then, but was training this week separately with a fitness coach.

Yeah, that's a good point. I wasn't aware of that. We should definitely do that, although I'm not sure Ole will as Maguire is a staple when available and he doesn't normally seem to rest players / take them off when suspensions are a possibility.

Want us to line up strong, like we did against Real Sociedad. It is a European quarter-final, and top4 in the Prem is pretty guaranteed.
Just control and kill the game. A boring 0-0 at half is great, a goal even better. Then slowly take off Bruno, Pogba, Cavani in second half.
Agree. Result more important than anything else, if we are doing well, some key players can sub early, but bring all the best guns we have at the start.

Secure the game first by at least one goal and then bring on bench-warmers and a couple of youth players.

Too many times this season we've started with a weaker team and lost the games.

    AWB......Axel......Lindelof.......Telles
    Matic......Fred
    Greenwood.....Mata.....Pogba
    Cavani

    Subs. Williams, Amad and James
Rest Bruno and Rashford unless we end up needing them. Take off AWB if we are winning early.

Edit. Forgot entirely about Donny

What's the point of playing Mata, seen him in a few lineups now. Play someone who might actually contribute next season

Surely the odds of a Williams yellow against this lot is basically 100%? Am genuinely concerned by an early red for the lad, given Greanda's approach to screaming.

This game is about this season, securing a trophy. Besides he'll likely be here next season as well as a backup.

I don't think he starts, but he's likely to get minutes.

I would tend to agree but Mata still has his uses in a game we could do with nabbing a goal, but if I remembered I would have Donny in there instead. Hope he can breakthrough next year.

Edit. For Mata, I would also argue, if we get a free kick around their area, there is no on else I would have above him in our squad to score or create something. As a back up player, he still has a few pro's.

Really don't want to see Rashford anywhere near this. Ideally Bruno would also be rested, but Ole always plays one of them.

Every game is about this season. You still have to balance that with long term needs, if he was considerably better than other options then fine but he isn't.

He's been more efficient than VdB has. We've just forgot about it since he was away so long with family stuff.

But they have both played their best together, which is why I think both will be subbed on in the second half once we take off Bruno.

With all our suspended first choice defensive players I'm a bit worried they'll come out with guns blazing so I wouldn't play an overly weakened team.

Strong team from the start I hope, Ole and the squad could really do with a nice cup win, as we all know.
I'm a little nervous to say the least given our amazing ability to screw up just this sort of fixture; if we can pull-off a couple of quick goals to really wrap it up, then yes, put players like Donny and Diallo on for some valuable game-time, rather than say, Matic or Mata.

Think it's been confirmed Rashford isn't fit to play. I'd say he'll start Bruno given how many enforced absences there are. He's doesn't usually go with a very weakened team from the start.

Rashford is still in the squad and showed up to the hotel earlier today.

Ole has been known for playing mindgames about who's fit or not. But I hope he doesn't feel that's necessary to do today.

Hoping Rashy gets to watch the game from premier seats, and never even has to warm up.

I think ole plays it safe and Bruno starts. He’ll need to get suspended or injured to get any sort of a break around here.

I think if we start without Fred again we will knock the ball around aimlessly around the middle and invite needless pressure. Look out for it.

Hopefully VDB starts. If he can do it in the CL this should be a cake walk

Amad for a solid run out in the second half
