Good win today , best I have seen us play for a long time, hopefully the goal RVP scored will improve his confidence. Cant see Southampton keeping their form up , if we can stay clear of any more injuries could be a battle with City for second place

good result, need to do the same on Tuesday and go into Southampton with some confidence to get a result there.

Let's put some space between us and those fighting for a top 4 finish.

Starting to look more confident, and dominate the opposition. Need to create more chances with the possession

Good result and basically a walk in the park today.

Great to see RVP get on the scoresheet with a vintage RVP strike.

As usual though, we get one back from injury (Falcao) and then we lose another two (Rooney, Di Maria). Its bordering on the absurd.

Job done. The strikes from outside the box were fantastic, possession was confident and the defending was solid. I'd like to have seen more chances on goal but a 3-0 win is more than good enough.

Post-match reaction from goalscorer Chris Smalling:

"The manager has said it was our best game of the season and I think it was. It was a complete performance."

"We have played well for 45 or 60-minute spells but today we did it for the full 90 minutes."

Well we already had Rooney, De Gea and Adnan but yeah definitely add Shaw too. I've wanted him at the club for years ever since we missed out on Bale. My first goto FM signing!
Yeah I wasn't necessarily just saying it's our signings that are great.

By my OP I more just meant our squad in general, some of the names in there, what we have to work with etc haha

I loved that we kept the high tempo going all the way to the end, and the pass and movement was fantastic. No zombie passing to be seen today guys.

The movement Off the ball is something I haven't seen for years at utd. For the LVG doubters, just compare this to a similar home fixture last year.

Maybe its better di maria sit this one out, really no need to have our 60mil asset out against hull herrera and mata needed the game time and to gain the confidence.
Anyone know why most of our possession tends to be in our own half? Like 70% of it? Not much fun to watch, is it?
When your 2 or 3 up why risk bombing foward and getting hit on the counter, its shitty to watch but we are in no position to create unnecessary risks for ourselved after some poor games.

Yep you're spot on, and going by todays game it's great to see those big names actually putting in the performance to match! With the talent we have we really should be dishing this out every week so here's to a bright future ahead!

How can you have zombie passing when you have mata and herrera playing in there prefered position ozzing with confidence, no brainer really.

Reminded me of Utd 12 or so years ago, slick passing, great pressing . Carrick looks to have been given more licence to use his attacking passing game, he has kept it under wraps too long. Herrera will replace Mata when DiMaria is back & God knows what LVG will do when Blind is back. Don't need anyone in january. So happy for Smalling, I am a big fan of his & he didn't deserve the flak he took after his red card at City. Englands future CB

As good as Herrera was there is massive room for improvement . Several times he had more time than he thought & could have turned . Scholes was a master at this space awareness & I think Herrera will improve . His movement is excellent

    Good chat.
    Thanks, I thought so too.

Just because we are forced to play him because of Shaw's injury and Van Gaal has managed to get a tune out of him doesn't make him the 2nd coming. He's been stinking the place out almost since he arrived here, one good performance doesn't change my opinion of him.

Now, Fellani, he was brought in a while ago to do a specific job and he's done it well over several games and retained his place in the side on merit.

As soon as Shaw is fit again, Young will go back to the bench. At least he's now become a useful squad player rather than just stealing a living from United.

Totally agree. I was in the boat of saying Young has no future here at all, now I think he does as a useful fullback option. I don't see where we've disagreed.

May sound strange but the thing I think that pleased me most was how quickly we were able to win the ball back if and when we lost it. The pressing high up the pitch worked really well and it makes me wonder if that's in anticipation of playing Southampton at the weekend. Herrera is fantastic to watch, I saw a FullTimeDevils video entitled "Herrera is on, look busy" and I think it sums him up as a player. I can understand why he hasn't been playing, as Fellaini hasn't done anything to warrant being dropped since Herrera's come back from injury. But when Herrera came on, everyone else seemed to up their game a bit. We were more purposeful with our passes, they were faster, more accurate and there was no "zombie passing" as it became known under Moyes. I think it has been interesting that because of the injuries we've had to our new signings, the players already at the club have had to up their game, and they've all done it. Young has slowly turned into a decent back up LB/LWB, same with Valencia on the right. Mata has been better the last few games, de Gea has stepped up a few gears (not that he was bad last year), Smalling has done well this season bar the City game, Rafa been excellent when not injured, and obviously, the biggest success story of the season has to Fellaini.

I wouldn't read too much into performances of individuals in the Hull match. Yes, people were good but Hull were exceptionally poor. Especially with possession. They kept passing balls to us, slipping and what not.
I am not saying we didnt play well. But not every team will be as bad as Hull. The match against Stoke should be interesting.

That's doing a massive disservice to our work off the ball. There's a reason Hull were as bad as they were.

I am not saying we didn't play good.. Hull lost possession too many times than normal without much pressure from us. I agree there were times when we created pressure forcing them into making mistakes.. But Hull's possession and the way they passed around was really poor. I dont expect Stoke to be so bad.

...so you want to drop him? Doesn't really follow.
Sorry, been away. News on injuries is sketchy at best (over here) and with Rojo coming off of a lengthy layoff there would be doubt in my mind as to his fitness and his injury recovery. I'm not saying drop him at all, I'd have just given him 30m off the bench later in the game to evaluate his readiness to go 90.

Hindsight being 20/20, he appears fully recovered and his fitness doesn't seem to be an issue either.
