Be so much more exciting. The elderly members of this forum would be swearing this was the biggest rivalry after Liverpool. Some moderately younger ones would only put Arsenal in front of that.

    It's a shame. It would've been a fun one.
Im Obviously an "Older " Fan as I think this is a huge Rivalry  . Liverpool Then this for me .

The question is Pogba or McTominay alongside Fred, otherwise the team selection is straightforward with Shaw in for Telles and hopefully Cavani on the bench.

Hope we get to see Pogba in that inside left position with more freedom to attack. Would be nice to have the option of Greenwood off the bench too.

Honestly can't wait for this game, there will be lots of goals unless we go 5 at the back!

I think we might see the 4231 with Pogba on the left again. He’s in great form but I think Ole will want both Fred and McTominay playing.

    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Telles
    McTominay - Fred
    Rashford - Bruno - Pogba
    Martial
I would be ok with that. Personally, I would drop Pogba. Our best midfield is definitely Fred and Mctominay in the double pivot. They are great at winning the ball back and giving it to the attackers.

This will be epic - I can see it being a high scoring game.

I loved watching this fixture growing up.

Think it was pretty clear Ole used Matic and Pogba for this game, and will use Fred + Mctominay for Leeds. Quite rightly rotating after 2 days.

Similarly why he rested Shaw, we will need his defensive skills against Raphinha.

Yep good squad rotation last night, you could argue we could have gone VDB over Bruno as well but that may have been pushing things

Yeah.. I think Ole doesn't trust VDB and clearly the team needs Fernandes. He gave him 10 minutes rest which is more than normal so he should be fine, he's fit as a fiddle.

Leeds plays some good football and it’s a bit a matter of small details for them I thought watching some of their games. Nevertheless I am positive - will be an open game where we should get some goals

Well they’re dogmatic in their approach. It’s good because they play to their strengths and refuse to compromise. Reminds a bit of Tommy Docherty’s Utd many moons ago. Won a lot of admirers but not quite steely enough to win the league.

    Need to be wary here.

Don't play 3 forwards. Pack the midfield. 4-2-3-1. McT and Fred in double pivot. Rashford, Bruno and Pogba with Cavani as 9.

    AwB Lindelof Maguire Shaw

    McTominay Fred

    James Bruno Rashford

    Cavani
Cavani probably won't play going by Ole's presser. He said he will need to see how he trains the day before, but I doubt he gets thrown in to start.
I wouldn't play James personally, would prefer Greenwood's guile or VDB given an opportunity in that position.

We might well do something akin to City, playing Pogba off the left, or a system similar to Sheffield, I think

Not too much to go on but Cavani's looking good in training.

Deploy 5 at the back and try to soak up the pressure and hit back in 2nd half. The United way.

McFred back in to protect Maglof's slothery, Pogba off the left, Shaw back in at LB.

Can I ask why you have picked Shaw over Telles?

Honest question. I like what I've seen from Telles so far. Shaw is soild but I think Telles offers more going forward.

We will be bricking it, especially early on in this game and Leeds will know that and take full advantage.

Let's hope Rashford and Martial has their scoring boots on

I was posting with the team I think Ole will pick, Shaw is better defensively and his role will be to protect Maguire from 1 v 1 situations, rather than attacking.

I agree. Always a great clash in every sense. There’s a good background article about the riv in the Telegraph. Here’s a link.
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...inside-story-english-footballs-toxic-rivalry/
Haven’t read it but from my memories they set out to kick the shit out of us particularly Best. Norman Hunter once said to him when he swapped defensive positions, “ you’ve got me now you fecking Irish bastard.” Reaney then stepped on his ankle to put him out of the game.

How we loathed them. But we even approached Revie to manage us after Busby retired but Revie was too overawed by following the great man that he didn’t. Clough had his run ins with them and called them out for the dirty bastards they were.

Telles can't defend. He's more likely to collide with Maguire than position himself correctly.

His positioning was certainly off at times and I think Leeds can exploit that. I hope Shaw plays.
