I can just see us being 1-0 down inside 3 mins…
Wan Bissaka forgets his a right back and drifts too much into the center and lets the Leeds winger make a shoddy cross which from Lindelöf gets bullied away easily and the opposite flank Leeds winger taps it in off De Gea.

What type of Leeds will show up? If it is the high intensive, risk taking Leeds, then we smashed them easily. We look good in preseason, while Leeds looked poor. I feel like we are ready to reach the 80 point mark this season. Can only see a win at the moment. And not a win with Var, sketchy decision, or penalties, but a proper win.

Thank God the EL matchday thread is no longer on the front page of the website.

There is only so many times a day a football fan should be reminded that his team scored 10 penalties in succession and still lost the game.

I was considering asking the mods to make some sort of buffer thread 'till next season's first game would be up. Half the Caf must've had that forum on ignore

Didn't even think of the pens, just that we ended the season trophyless. On every visit :(

Asking the mods for anything will get you two things: ignored or herpes. Or both if you're especially lucky

I think Matic has had a better preseason than Fred. But Leeds high intensity is going to force Ole to put Fred in the middle.

And although Elanga has been better than Pogba, we're obviously going to go with seniority.
How? He's only been back for one game (Everton), and was arguably our best player when he came on in the second half.

Why is Pogba on the left of attack now seen to be a good thing? It is clearly a bit shite.

The positive about playing Leeds is they attack and are always open no matter what which suits us down to the ground. The negative is you know damn well they are up to speed and fit already so our players energy levels have to be high early.

They weren't open or attacking the last time we played them.

Hope to see Varane off the bench but doubtful. I reckon 3-1 United.

I hope we don't see a McT midfield.
Pogba will most likely play with Martial, Greenwood and Sancho upfront (I can see Martial on the left and Greenwood as a striker)

Could think of easier games to start with.

No Cavani or Rashford, we’re toothless up front ….a bit ominous :nervous:

It's his default position against any decent opposition. He doesn't start in midfield unless we're facing bottom half team.
Yet our best game versus the top 6 was arguably against Liverpool in the cup when Pogba played CM.

Well I'm not sure about that:

McFred played centrally. Although Pogba did roam around (as he usually does), he played mostly on LW:

Similar to Bruno, but at least you can see he stayed centrally (probably when defending):

Been looking forward to this all year, but now that we're just a couple of days away, I've decided not to go to the game on Saturday. :(

Gutted, but despite being double jabbed I'm just too scared of Covid to get on the coach and then go into a stadium with 75,000 people.

Hope those brave enough to go make it a rocking opening game.

De Gea, Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof, AWB, Matic, Fred, Pogba, Bruno, Greenwood, Martial.

Will be too early for Sancho and Varane of course, Sancho at least should come on for his debut. Without Cavani, Rashford and having a very rusty Martial I think this might be a bit of a struggle.

    2-2

    0-2 City.

Pogba started in CM at the start of the season. Our results weren't good, he wasn't very good (Caf ratings were poor too) and Ole started playing him LW against good teams in the league from then on.
He had Covid and we had 10 men.

It's personal preference but the McFred Midfield for me is way too limited.

Also I predict a Donny Fred Midfield will have similar problems to a Pogba Fred Midfield.

We just don't have Midfielders that suit eachother

Not that game. In the FA cup game.

Also up until that point we hadn't bet one of the big 6 and had only scored 1 goal from a penalty.

The McFred Midfield couldn't make us chances in those games.

It was found out last season especially in the second half of the season where they got worse and worse and started gifting the opposition goals.

    Starting XI:

    De Gea

    Wan-Bissaka - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw

    Van De Beek - Matic

    Greenwood - Fernandes - James

    Martial

We need James Enegry in this; Fred or Mctominay to come on and replace either one of Donny or matic, Pogba and Sancho to replace James and Greenwood later on.

    3-1 United.

We drew a bunch of games when Pogba got injured against weaker teams where McFred wouldn't have been the primary pairing if Pogba was available. When he got back we had a goalless draw against Leeds and at the end of the season we played a B team against Leicester and lost to Liverpool.

Our start to the season wasn't exactly flying with Pogba in CM.

Yeah that might be it. I just watched Pogba performance, it took him just to be disciplined and focused, without any firework, to have a very good game.
Funny thing is he wasn't anything spectacular in that game, just good all-round midfielder. If he was so focused all the time he'd displace one of Fred or McTominay easily.

You're hard pressed to see a fan wearing a mask inside a stadium based on the friendly footage in pre season. You made the right call.

Pretty sure we will go with something akin to the team we opened with against Everton:

    DDG
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    DVB Matic
    Greenwood Fernandes James
    Martial

The only considerations for me are whether Matic is the right pick for this profile of opponent and whether Martial is sharp enough for a league game, but other than that, I’d be content with that line up.

I expect to see Pogba and Sancho off the bench in the 2nd half, not sure on Varane.

Going for 3-1 to Man United.

Fred got 45, McT only a 15 or so, since then they worked pretty hard as well, both are very fit especially Fred who can play 80 games per season without stopping running. I think we will personally go with him and McTominay who albeit underwhelming player, proved to be in Ole's books 6/10 player, so there is less risk for him. But will perhaps Matic and Fred as a double pivot in the end.. with Pogba in contention too, to make things more creative, and McT to add a bit more steel and legs replacing Matic.

I hope Pogba gets time from LAM though, so we don't have to see DJ anywhere near the pitch.

I'd play McTominay after his performance in this fixture last season:

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Fred McTom
    Sancho Bruno Martial
    Greenwood
