Liverpool Football Club (nicknamed The Reds) are an English professional football club based in Liverpool, England. Liverpool were originally founded in 1892 as "Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds Ltd" (Everton Athletic for short), before finalizing on the name Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Ltd. after a dispute between the Everton FC board and John Houlding, the owner of Everton's former premise at Anfield Road.

Liverpool's forays into competitive football started when they joined the Lancashire League. After winning the league title in their first season, Liverpool were accepted into the Football League for the 1893-94 season, following the resignations of Accrington and Bootle. Liverpool reached its first FA Cup Final in 1914, losing 1–0 to Burnley. It won consecutive League championships in 1922 and 1923, but did not win another trophy until the 1946–47 season, when the club won the First Division for a fifth time under the control of ex-West Ham Utd centre half George Kay.

One of the most successful and storied clubs in the history of European football, Liverpool have won 20 English league titles, 6 European Cups, 8 FA Cups, and 10 League Cups, peaking in the 1970s and 1980s, first under the enigmatic Bill Shankly, and then his Boot Room successors Bob Pailsey, Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish. Liverpool have two fierce historic rivals: crosstown club Everton FC (matches between them are termed The Merseyside Derby) and Manchester United (stemming from the success of both teams as well as the cities' competition in the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century).

Win, secure CL football, announce a couple of secured signings the following week. Too much?

We should be beating this lot, no excuses. Both teams aren’t playing great but are getting results but it’s about time we thumped these guys.

    3-0 United.

Probably the all-round least consequential game we've played against them for a while. Obviously still want to hammer them, but unless we get embarrassed it won't be a disaster if we don't.

This game is one game I do not care about quality of the goals. Just need to win.

They have had some big wins at OT in recent seasons compared to one win for United since Yuanfield.

    Do them please!

Assuming Sesko, Cunha & Shaw are out.. it doesn’t make great selections. Heaven at LB so we actually have a left footer on that side.

    Dalot - Maguire - Yoro - Heaven
    Casemiro - Mainoo
    Amad - Bruno - Mount
    Mbeumo

Cunha will be back for sure. Hope Sesko and Shaw are ok too. We better be up for this. While yes there are 4 games left, this is effectively the last meaningful game of the season. Win this and we basically solidify 3rd, solidify staying ahead of Liverpool, we guarantee CL football, and on top of that ... It's against Liverpool. It's as close as we can have to a "big finish" to the season. Absolutely need them to show up here and then realistically the last 3 games after are effectively end of season friendlies.

I was hoping we'd see Dorgu come off the bench tonight so we could see him start vs Liverpool.

RW is a dilemma. Mbeumo and Amad both look off it at the moment, but Amad looks the fitter out of the two, so I'd probably start him and bench Mbeumo.

    2-2. Two Bruno assists.

I really hope the defensive issues first half vs Brentford don't tempt Carrick to play that awful 5 at the back from the start.

As harsh as it is to drop Sesko, and I hate playing out of form players usually (Amad and Mbeumo), but tactically I don't mind the Cunha-Mbeumo-Amad front 3 for this one. There's just going to be so much space in behind for us to attack, in comparison to the physical strength and aerial prowess of Liverpool's centre backs where Sesko is unlikely to see much joy.

I don't know how we'll even be looking injury wise though. Shaw and Sesko went off injured, Cunha missed the game but it didn't sound too serious from what I heard so praying he can be back.

Dorgu would have been a natural option to start in a game like this given our success against City and Arsenal, but he's not played a minute in months so don't think starting him makes much sense unless there's a genuine injury crisis.

They will be well up for this. Expect a hard fought 1-1.
They are fecking crap, as long as we don’t give Szobo free kicks, I’m confident of winning this.

The players must be well up for this too given that a win officially clinches the CL so they get that sweet sweet pay raise next season.

I think even if it’s Liverpool, we will struggle to show up for this game with CL all but guaranteed. I hope I’m wrong. That extra CL spot really makes the rest of the games less of must-wins.

If Sesko is out I wouldn't mind Zirkzee getting the nod if he's up for it. I think get Mbeumo out wide but let them rotate and see whether you can bully their defenders a bit.

Liverpool are back to their best, if they win they will leapfrog us in the league, I'm not getting good vibes, Liverpool win it is then.

Salah and Ekitike being unavailable really stifles their attack and gives us a good chance of coming away with something from this one

This is the team we should play regardless of whether Sesko is fit or not.

Annoyingly they have found their form in the league. We still have a good chance of beating them though, but we can't be as open as we were vs. Brentford.

Are people generally guessing regarding United’s injuries, or have there been any concrete updates since the game yesterday?

The form they've found in the league is wins at home to Fulham and Brighton and a 99th minute winner away to Everton where they didn't really deserve to win. This is an incredible opportunity to beat them.
