Our injury problems go as far back as under Sir Alex. We famously had a defensive injury crisis around every Christmas.

We need to do something about it but no idea what. We brought in the Southampton physio Matt Radcliffe but sacked him after a season when things weren't getting better.
Jones could injure himself in a padded room.

I've been hard on McNair at times but I'm gonna back him for a good game tonight. He must be a talented kid to be at United, he's just had some big stage nerves. Paddy power time.

Sincerely hope it's Carrick at CB, McNair gives me the willies every time I've seen him....
When was the last time we played Carrick at CB? I remember it happening under Fergie and Moyes but can't remember last time it happened under Van Gaal. I think he might be saved for the game against Arsenal.

"They play with diagonal pressing. I do that also with my team.

"Not many teams are doing that. And when I see the data of Midtjylland they have always won against English opponents."

    So we're equals.

Lucky getting his excuses in early.

Unlikely. He rotates even less than Van Gaal which is saying something.
I'd say the only difference is that Mourinho doesn't seem to tolerate injury prone players. I doubt Jones for instance would still be here had we appointed him instead of LvG.

Why are we getting these injuries? Maybe Jose would change our luck.
Under SAF I think we had injury prone defenders that we hung onto for too long. Brown, Neville, Rafael. Then in Vidic and Ferdinand two players who picked up the usual injuries you'd expect of guys their age.

Right now it's just bad luck and coincidence.

For good reasons though... If SAF had the same policy we might not have a few of the players around the club now that seem to live in the physio room.. R.e Jones.

Yeah I agree. I meant it as a Mourinho positive. If SAF was still here Jones would have a job for life. Gary Neville almost had to fake his own death to get off the books.

    Currently injured XI:

    De Gea

    Valencia - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw

    Schweinsteiger - Fellaini
    Lingard ------------------- Young
    Januzaj ---------
    Rooney
Bench: Borthwick-Jackson, Jones, Darmian , Keane

I think I'd be more confident with that team than anything I can put together tonight. I'd probably only swap Carrick for Fellaini and Martial for Januzaj

Lingard is fit for tonight isn't he?

Januzaj wouldn't be playing even if he had Messi like skills.

Oh, you did actually. You also scored 3 against Derby and Stoke not long ago.

What are people on here complaining about? You're like Barcelona and Bayern combined.
Combined like Jeff Goldblum and a fly maybe.

Couple of hours till kick off. LVG is probably making all the players lightly stroke their penis at this moment.

We're Manchester United - regardless of who the manager is, we'll always get a fecking ridiculous injury list every single damn season, and almost always focused on the same position or area of the squad. We're just cursed, we have to accept it and plan accordingly.

We need to approach every transfer window from now on as a challenge to sign as many defenders as we can in a single window, and then try to break that record in the next window when all the previous window's signings are out injured. Even so, we'll likely see Carrick playing centre-back at some stage during the season alongside a kid from the under-16s.
I disagree. I reckon the injury rate is linked to the number of players on our books. We should sell all but four defenders and they'll sail through the season with only a single one-match lay-off for one player, requiring Carrick to play one game at CB. If we sign ten CBs, at some point we'll have ten all injured at the same time and Carrick will be in there for his traditional stint anyway.

Basically, Carrick has some kind of fairytale curse on him.

What is diagonal pressing? I searched on google, but am still none the wiser.

To be fair if this squad is horny tonight we should be in for a good game, that's probably what's been missing this season, the manager says he wants desire and passion but players like Rooney have mostly shown impotence, if Giggs has coached the young lads to penetrate well, they'll ravage the midgets, that I'm sure of.

It means the whole team closes in towards the ball rather than spreading out and closing space or following specific players. It's a shape/use of space thing designed to close angles the opposition can pass through rather than close space they can exploit.

Looks like the attendance will be below 50 thousand tonight. When was the last time this happened?

Not sure but maybe that League Cup game against Newcastle? I remember there being a slight uproar about the pricey tickets and Old Trafford was visibly empty.

I can definitely see this being a struggle. Too close to call against the mighty mytdjelland, such is the state of our current predicament.
