We should have been within touching distance of City man, how did we mess up? So many points dropped against Sheffield, arsenal, Everton and west brom. I have got no confidence in our lot beating these. It will be just like us to go and lose to them.
They need lessons from Fergie to improve their mentality

    Is Bruce a bus parker?

We normally beat his teams handily don't we? Hasn't it become a running joke that he doesn't actually want to beat United?
He parked the bus in the 1-0 win in St James Park last year, they had 30% possession and their goal was their first shot on target. That was his only win against Man United as manager. He got 5 draws against Man United and 3 of them was 0-0.

Thought he was going to do that trick where they take the shirt off with the ball balanced on the back of his neck and I was ready to punch a hole through my iPad screen.

Last couple of weeks have just ruined any sense of fun in the league for me though a very strong 2nd would be good progress. A commanding win is much needed

Thanks I'd forgotten how last year's game went. Nailed on to do it again if it worked last year.

Hopefully we start well and get an early goal.

    AWB - Bailly - Maguire - Shaw
    McTominay - Fred
    Bruno
    Mata - Cavani - Rashford
Since they'll probably park the bus and try to nick a goal on the break, we need a solid defense and an ability to maneuver up front. Bruno/Mata/Cavani would do that well. In fact, I might even swap out Rashford for Greenwood, but Ole won't do that.

I have no hope that Ole will go this route, though. He'll have Lindelof out there at the very least, and DDG will be in goal. He'll probably go Rashford/Cavani/Martial up front, too.

Without Wilson they’re missing a scorer. However with St Maximin and Almiron with Willock behind, they will need to be watched

But I guess Martial will start this one for Greenwood with Rash on the right, since he's fresher, Lindelof instead of Bailly, and DDG will play.

As long as Lindelof is nowhere near I’m happy with that

I was thinking it while creating the lineup and forgot to mention at the end... Sorry to say he is likely to play. I even updated my post. Hope I'm wrong.

Of the last 8/9 matches with Bailly as Maguire’s partner we’ve won 7

If Scott is out, do we really need Fred and Matic? Would feel like overkill... Hopefully VdB is back, could be a good game for him.

I've never been the biggest Matic fan but risking McTominay in this game seems unwise, if Cavani is fit enough I think Ole will start him as he knows he can rest him for a week before we play Chelsea.

This one will be an easy win. It's the next couple I'm worried about.

Hahaha! The next couple Premier league games, obviously.
Tuchel doesn't usually park the bus against us, think that game will suit us. Not worried about Palace, they were fortunate to catch us in pre season mode last time around.

Newcastle are shit, so we really should be getting a comfortable win. Would start VdB here if fit as we'll be dominating the possession and they'll likely just park the bus so we'll need some more technical ability in there.

Newcastle are battling and have big injuries. We need to play quickly, if we play the same as against Sheff United and WBA we are in for another paainful 90' of zombie-ball.

    Please play Bailly!

Would like to see Henderson, James and Bailly all keep their places - but strongly suspect all three will drop back out
James rightfully, he needs to be rotated. Henderson and Bailly could send a strong message but we will see, it's all about planning.

I can understand DDG vs Hendo being a dilemma for Ole, but Bailly simply has to play when he's fit, he'll be injured any minute now, whether he plays or not, and we play so much better with him alongside Harry.

We will need an early goal - Newcastle will put everyone behind the ball and it will be a shite game if we can’t get an early goal and make them come out a bit.

This certainly won’t be like midweek - 21 players camped in their half most of the game.

Really could do with Cavani for this game - balls into the box and look for knockdowns/2nd ball shots.

We won’t be able to play nea one-twos as there will be no room - direct football - get a goal up and then hopefully things open up and we can play a nicer game.

deffo should play Bailey to snuff out any long ball counters from them - as long as there is some pace at the back Maguire can push forward.

Would like to see VDB play in a strong starting team - we won’t need 2 holding midfielders for this one - we need more creativity - even possibility of Mata?

This is the game where Newcastle always score first and then Lascelles decides to play like Franco Baresi in the 1994 World Cup Final

Someone should create the video with the song "Life is life" in the background, just like that vid from Maradona.
Hopefully we will get a win tomorrow, having a nervy feeling though.

    Cavani*

*If not fit, Dan James and Mason goes up top again. Otherwise, play the strongest side we have, and that includes the two holding midfielders. We can still attack well through good movement, accurate passing and shooting and coordinated high-pressing. No one has ever lost a game because Fred started over VdB. I love Donny but the two DMs are better and more useful than him atm.

    Man United 2-0 Newcastle.

I wouldn't say mctominay is a dm anyway. He's a box to box and has chipped in with some useful goals this season.

Not looking forward to Martial starting this. Lately he is like playing with 10 men.

And I'm someone who has always been a massive fan of his.

Also De Gea does not deserve to play but he will.

Think it will be this due to injurys

    De Gea
    Bissaka - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    Fred - Matic
    Bruno
    Greenwood - Martial - Rashford

    What I'd like to see

    Henderson
    Williams/Tuanzebe - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    Fred - Matic
    Bruno
    Greenwood - Rashford - James

Gaarrhhh, I think you’ve nailed it unfortunately! I’m desperately hoping we see the team you’ve suggested but like you, deep down I have that disappointed feeling that it’ll be DDG, Lindelof and Martial...ah well, as long as we win I guess...
