Olympique Lyonnais, commonly referred to as simply Lyon (and nicknamed Les Gones or L'OL), is a French professional football club based in Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Olympique Lyonnais was initially formed under the multisports club Lyon Olympique Universitaire, which was originally formed in 1896 as Racing Club de Lyon. In 1899, Olympique de Lyon formed a football team within the multisport club. On 26 August 1950, played its first official match defeating CA Paris-Charenton 3–0 in front of 3,000 supporters.

Lyon won its first ever Ligue 1 title in 2002, starting a national record-breaking streak of seven successive titles. During that run the club also won one Coupe de France title, its first Coupe de la Ligue title and a record six Trophée des Champions. The club also performed well in UEFA competitions, reaching as far as the quarter-finals on three occasions and the semi-finals in 2010 in the UEFA Champions League. Lyon's streak and consistent dominance of French football came to an end during the 2008–09 season, when it lost the title to Bordeaux.

Lyon was a member of the G14 group of leading European football clubs and are founder members of its successor, the European Club Association. They have a long-standing rivalry with nearby team Saint-Étienne, against whom they contest the Derby Rhône-Alpes. Olympique Lyonnais plays its home matches at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, commercially known as the Groupama Stadium.

Think we'll go to extra time.

If we play like today, we'll lose for sure.

Exactly how I want too see us set up, we'll Zirkzee instead of Højlund, but that probably won't be an option. Mainoo on for Mount later on in the match.

Will likely be the same team as last Thursday, possible exception of Zirkzee in for Hojlund if fit, but every time I predict that, Hojlund starts.

A lot less confident now but hopefully OT will push us over the line. Today was seriously horrific preparation though.

This is it, the season rests on this game.

    .................... Onana

    ....... Mazraoui - Maguire - Yoro

    Dalot - Casemiro - Fernandes - Shaw

    ........... Garnacho - Mainoo

    ................. Højlund

    Make or break.

    Onana (sigh)
    Mazraoui-Maguire-Yoro
    Dalot-Casemiro-Bruno-Dorgu
    Garnacho-Mainoo
    Hojlund

No excuses. No lapses in judgment. On paper we have the players to win this. It's up to the team to make it count now.

Really worried Josh is out for several weeks now, that didn't look precautionary.

    Dalot--------------------------------Bruno-----------Casemiro-----------------------------------Dorgu
    --------------------------------Garnacho----------------Mount-----------------------------------------------

Maybe Mainoo instead of Mount, but will depend on fitness.

Shaw will be LCB if he was to
    Start , I don’t think Amorim sees him as a WB . I doubt he’ll start anyway.

This squad have shaken my faith.

Ill always back them when they wear a Utd jersey. But iv no faith they will do the business against this average Lyon team.

    ....... Mazraoui - Maguire - Yoro

    Dalot - Casemiro - Fernandes - Shaw

    ........... Garnacho - Mainoo

Looks good, except probably Altay for Onana.

Well, we know that Bayinder is not the answer, so we put Heaton in on Thursday.

A billion £’s spent, this is an absolute joke.

Losing Zirkzee is a blow but hopefully having Mount back with some minutes in his legs will make up for that.

Seasons pretty much done if we don’t win. We need Bruno to pull at least an 8/10 performance to get the win.

With no Zirkzee, we absolutely need Mainoo as the left 10 to provide some link up and hold up. Garnacho as the right 10 for me.

    Any news on de ligt?

Maybe we scrape through but I can see more individual errors costing us. 2-1 to Lyon and then six games of apathy.

Looks good, except probably Altay for Onana.
There was a slim chance Altay would have started Thursday prior to todays game , there’s no chance he starts after that performance

Except when healthy, he's started the previous up games, with Onana being used for the league. There's no way Onana should play in any meaningful game for United again. Let him finish up in the league and let Altay continue in the EL. Then we re-assess the keeper position in the summer.

Losing this and we could start digging our grave instead of a foundation for the new stadium.

Sure, I don't expect Shaw to start. I just hope so. Hard to know how Amorin sees him, but he need someone who can run with the ball and put crossers into the box. Dorgu is not it, at least not yet.

Hopefully that thrashing off Newcastle was worth it.

Not holding my breath, but then the importance of this one has to spark something in the team. Please, show some spirit.

Could be the end of the season. Absolutely battered today and humbled.

    Bayindir (does basics better)
    Maz
    Maguire
    Yoro
    Dalot
    Dorgu
    Casemiro
    Ugarte
    Bruno
    Garnacho
    Hojlund

Don’t wanna lose the legs of Ugarte but I want Case in for his big game presence and let’s face it he’s still largely good on the ball/good touch etc. Bruno needs to be further forward with Zirkzee out and we can’t drop Garnacho after scoring today and well Hojlund is our only option up front!

If I thought Shaw was fit enough I’d play him and the goalkeepers…..well it’d just a toss up isn’t it?

Mainoo was poor tonight. I’m not holding my breath for any sort of performance from him at least until he’s back up to speed. But he’s looked poor all season anyway. Mount looks a little more ready but even he looks rusty in his play. This game today has done a lot of damage to us in the end.

Team selection today had more than one eye on this games but so annoying and frustrating to have probably lost Zirkzee to injury for this one.

Lyon are unbeaten away in Europe this season so another nervy anxious night expected in Old Trafford but hopefully United can do enough to reach the semi final.

Cons: the season could end Thursday.

Pros: the season can end Thursday.

This is our last chance game and we shouldn't even have gotten this far. We can afford to take a few chances. Throw Shaw in on the left for the first half. Start Obi with our best creators, behind him and put some balls on a plate for him. Keep anyone that won't be here next year away from the first team. Bring Heaven back in for how long he can handle with Yoro on the other side. I'd even give Kone a try for his energy and tenacity. Playing the same shit team, we may as well not bother showing up.

Mainoo is just a more talented player for me than Mount and gets more involved, especially as he can hold it up better. Also he played 10 minutes at the end of a 4-1.. wouldn't read much into it.

Obi isn’t registered for Europa. Otherwise we’d have tried him out a few games back.
