Smalling and Rojo could be interesting as Smalling seem to be able work with anyone and adjust well, Jones in midfield? wouldn't be so sure, but I think Jose not so long time ago used Bailly there, something what he did with Zouma at Chelsea.

It will probably be Fellaini even though I'd love to see TFM there but central defenders don't need to rest much, we are mostly attacking everyone
A center-back in midfield against Reading at home on a Cup?

Martial and Rashford need to start. I'd play Mata too.

Smalling, Young, Fellaini, Mata, Martial, Rashford all to start. Not sure about the rest yet.
I agree Young has a very good chance of starting, most probably at right-back. Or right-wing or left-back?

But even scarier is imagining losing Pogba or Herrera to injury due to too many games. Herrera tonight looked like a lost puppy sometimes, his head going one way, his body another.
    HERRERA BLED FOR THE CAUSE
Passion is one of many words you can use to describe Ander Herrera and the former Athletic Club man showed plenty of that particular attribute in this 2-0 win, not only through his intense midfield play but his willingness to fight for the cause. Observant viewers will have noticed him bleeding heavily from above his right eye in the first half, but he played on (presumably through the pain) and finished the match as one our most influential performers. The 27-year-old later confirmed with a photo posted on Instagram that he had received three stitches to his wound. What a guy.

I didn't watch the West Ham- United game, but I saw the Sunderland-Liverpool one instead.
The scheduling was crazy with 2 games within 48 hours. Liverpool was dropping off a lot in pace.

So, I hope United will rest a couple of guys as well this weekend. Reading is one of the top clubs in the Championship, but I think there is a need to rest a few guys for the rest of the season.

I will go for Romero, Young, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Felliani, Carrick/Schweinsteiger, Rashord, Rooney, Mata and Martial as the starting XI.

Rest all others... if that team don't beat Reading they should all be sold

Because we have barely any midfielders, I wouldn't be against Rooney playing in midfield. I'd have Pogba on the bench and Herrera rested.

    Romero
    Fosu-Mensah - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
    Bastian
    Rooney - Mata
    Mkhitaryan - Rashford - Martial

The front free should be more than enough to beat Reading.

    Romero

    Darmian Smalling Rojo Shaw

    Bastian
    Fellaini Mata

    Mkhitaryan Rashford Martial

Most probably we would see Rooney in there, so Micky out for Rooney and Rashford to move to the right.

REST Ibra, Pogba, Herrera, Carrick, Valencia, Mkh. Maybe also DDG... Romero deserves a game he's alright.

    Romero
    TFM, Tuanzebe, Rojo, Darmian
    Blind (Carrick role), Fellaini
    Lingard, Mata, Martial
    Rashford

I included Mata and Martial there cos they haven't played the whole 90 mins of the past two games and we need a threat going forward. Won't be easy and we have to go for as many trophies as possible. I'd say stick to the same side vs Hull though that is a semi-final and we may see some more established players.

Mourinho won't risk two players in new positions, though.

I don't think Jose will want to change quite as much as this, but I'd still be happy with:

    Romero
    Darmian Smalling Rojo Young
    Schweinsteiger
    Mata Fellaini
    Lingard Rashford Martial

Unfortunately, due to Bastian not getting as much game time as most would like (seems a missed opportunity now with Morgan unlikely to feature amidst transfer speculation) I think Jose will likely play Pogba again and rest him for the Hull game (with Herrera the coming back in maybe). However, we could also see Carrick play again and then miss the Hull game, it's likely one or the other at least.

Herrera and Jones took some slight knocks last night and even though I doubt they'll affect their ability to play this game, I'd rather they miss this one and come back in for Hull. I'd also hope Blind and Rooney are back to play in these cup games, maybe even Shaw too, but we'll have to wait for the presser to see how they are.

If Rooney is fit enough to be in the squad, then this is a game where I'd try to leave Zlatan out of the squad entirely (and probably only be on the bench against Hull or get subbed off for the Liverpool game). Hope Fosu-Mensah could get a bit of game-time as well, maybe even Memphis on the bench.

Point is, while I think that line-up is looking like far too many changes and it won't be quite like that, we still need to use a lot more of the squad over the two cup ties and give game time to players such as Darmian, Young, Smalling, Romero, Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Mata, Lingard, Rashford, Rooney, Blind, Shaw, Fosu-Mensah, Memphis...

We should be winning both games regardless.

Id like to see this team:
    Romero
    Darmian Smalling Blind Riley
    Schweini
    TFM Harrop
    Mkhitaryan Rashford Martial
Give Carrick, Herrera and Zlatan some rest, but id put Zlatan on the bench just in case....
Romero - if not now, when?
Darmian - its between him and Young, long term its better if he try him and give him the chance
Smalling, Blind - they had a decent partnership last season, a good game with a clean sheet would benefit both confidence wise
Riley - if Shaw is not fit he deserves a chance
Bastian - best possible replacement for Carrick, its a "meaningless" game so Jose might give him the chance from the start but its highly unlikely unfortunately
TFM - serious lack of game time this season so its very important for his development that he plays, it would be in his best potential role and would be a great tactical fit
Harrop - no chance that he gets the chance but feck it, we can always hope.
Mkhitaryan - no need for rest, if anything he needs game time
Rashford - needs minutes in his best position
Martial - that trio up front would be lethal and there is no need for a rest just like Mkhi

People are getting a bit carried away putting youngsters who haven't even had one appearance in.

Since when does Jose do that?

Anyone else slightly apathetic towards this game? I can't take my mind off of the big game against Liverpool. Just keep the key players fit and sharp and I could care less about the FA Cup.

We'll play a near full strength side in this. You can forget about these mish mash line ups, Mourinho wants to win every single game.
And that's the way it should be.

There was an interesting statistic that CFC are the team who has made the least changes to their lineups and low and behold, they are sitting top.
MUFC have made the most changes of any top team.

I too would love to see the likes of TFM, Tuanzebe vs Reading but I think it would only be possible when the team has massive lead to defend on and JM play them to defend the lead and do the harass and run all over tactic, like Zouma last time.

Pretty sure City have made the most changes by quite a distance.

I think Carrick may play here and be rested against Hull with us playing Herrera, Pogba and Mata there, so he's fully rested for Liverpool.

Hope for a good game from us. Don't want to break the good run. Hopefully a game to play the lads who didn't played much during the festive period.

How is possible that it is mid season and we are not cluttered with (defensive) injuries? What's this voodoo?

I'm not sure they'll be too many changes actually. The old boys of Ibra and Carrick certainly, maybe Jones given how much he's played since coming back from injury. Don't see the point of resting the keeper and i think Pogba is young enough and fit enough to play every game.

I really hope we rest Herrera and Pogba, and maybe Valencia too. We don't really have any midfield options though...
