I think I'd rest Bruno against Southampton as well.

Next Sunday against Southampton is a more important game now.

Can’t decide whether boos of derision will be cascading down from the stands when the players emerge for this game, or whether the mood will be to get behind the team more so than ever.

    I also can’t decide which I’d prefer.

How much of a break is the international break? I presume loads of players will be involved?
I think it's about 2 weeks or 10 days or something.
Im not saying it's a great rest, most of our squad are involved with lots of traveling.

We just need to dig in and get 4 wins, which sets us up nicely for end of season.

In all honesty, we should be beating Betis. They're a very ordinary team that I'd rate behind the likes of Fulham and Brighton, nevermind the big 6 clubs in England. A 2-0 win to take into the second leg should not be beyond us. Main worry will be the combination of fatigue and low morale from today's game. But in terms of ability, we're a way ahead of them and should be able to show it.
They're very tricky with a wily old fox of a manager.

They drew with Real and Barca.
I expect us to bounce back.

We'll be well rested by Thursday and no travelling either which helps

Remember when we'd get a humiliating result under SAF, then would come out fired up in the next match and win 5-0 while playing scintillating football?

Yeah, that's probably not gonna happen.
Didn’t always happen under Fergie either. After we got beat 5-0 by Newcastle we lost to Southampton 6-3 and then Chelsea at home.

Or when we lost 4-1 to Liverpool at Old Trafford then a week later went and got beat 2-0 by Fulham in a thoroughly miserable game, finishing with 9 men.

They draw 0-0 with Real Madrid on the same day we lose 7-0.

That would be very disappointing. We still have a decent chance of winning two more trophies. Today was a disaster but it isn't season over for us. We have plenty to play for.

It can only happen to us this. The one season in the history of English football where there is a world cup interrupted season and we challenge on four fronts. Hahahaha.

The squad is nowhere near good enough to cope with all these games. We are going to limp over the line in the league now I fear. We will still get there just but we will make very hard work of it I'm sure.

The FA cup you'd think is between us and City with maybe Brighton as dark horse.

Europa is a lottery. You just can't predict it. We could knock out Barca and then get knocked out by Betis. It's the kind of thing that tends to happen in this competition.

Hope Old Trafford will support the players even more this match. They've already gotten the embarrassment, time to move on and finish the season strongly.

Does this actually ever happen at Old Trafford? I can’t watch games live but on tv I only ever hear either silence or support coming from the fans.

That means nothing though; we just beat Barca, who beat Madrid, who thrashed Liverpool, who then thrashed us.

Matchgoers won’t boo the team. They do a great job of supporting them regardless.

We’ll win the game by the odd goal & the players will run to their social media to act like that makes up for the absolute shambles we were subjected to.

These players have been on the end of 6 at the Etihad & 7 at Anfield, they sprinkle in the odd 3 against West Ham then think they’re ok to produce historically bad performances year on year.

I actually like a number of this squad individually but the scars of big defeats lay so close to the surface I think we need to get rid of most of them still.

I would genuinely drop the whole team from Sunday and change the entire starting 11 as a statement to the players that the level of performance against Liverpool was unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

As it is I have absolutely no desire to watch these players for a while. Any goodwill they’ve built up this season has been well and truly thrown down the drain. Maybe by Thursday I will have calmed down a bit.

And what message will that have sent when Elanga, Maguire, Mctominay & co lose to Betis and the panic sets in about the season sliding into disaster.

Maybe bench 3 or 4 players for fitness reasons but we have to go reasonably strong. We can't afford not to win this game and our full second team is simply not good enough.

Like this team and Bruno needs a bit of a rest. However, I am sure Erik picks Bruno in place of Sancho/ Garnacho.

As if the prawn sandwich eaters will ever boo anyone at Old Trafford. A very small section once booed Fellaini in a pre season game and the poor souls were widely ridiculed by the top reds.

They literally won a trophy 8 days ago. And yes, lost one terrible game. It takes more than one game to turn our crowd, sunshine. Maybe the matchgoers you clearly disdain have a broader view of the situation. Their emotional investment is different. When you've spent a lot of time and money to support your team, year after year, creating a toxic environment is not as attractive a proposition as it is to an internet fan.

I pity EtH, it must be so hard to even look at his squad the same way after such a performance. I'd just think they are all a bunch of losers.

Honestly, I don't have much interest in this game.
    This./

Personally until genuine wholesale changes are made it’s pretty hard to support this lot. Multiple players have let us down terribly time & again. How many 5s, 6s & now 7s do we have to be on the end of for the likes of Shaw & Bruno to say never again.

Drop Bruno is a must. If not, Eric will loose a lot more credits for me.
Drop both Shaw and Dalot as well and 1-2 others.
    Play for a 3-0

Must win if we want to progress. Don’t see us beating them in Spain at all.

A strong team must be picked but Bruno rested. I’d like to see Sabitzer, Fred, Casemiro, with Garnacho, Rashford, Sancho ahead of them. Lindelof for Varane, AWB for Dalot also with Antony, Weghorst coming on from the bench.

Lose again and our season really might go tits up as 80% of this team is still the brittle, spineless lot of years gone by and I’m not confident they would cope with the scrutiny and pressure.

He'll play Bruno though and move Sabitzer in Fred's place. I love Bruno but he deserves dropping after last night.
