Really want to see Maz - Garnacho on that right side again.

Seems like a perfect setup to repeat the past - usually us going out of Europe at our own ground. Hopefully we score some goals.

It's a real shame that Obi isn't registered.

Before finding out about it ahead of the first leg, I'd have thought players under a certain age - 18 or 21? - didn't have to be registered as it allowed an opportunity to give some youngsters game time when needed.

Maybe that's just in the PL? Though I remember that European tie we had a few years back against Astana when we sent a squad mostly of academy players because we'd already qualified.

Were they all registered then, along with the entire first team who didn't travel? Or is it something to do with Obi not having been with us for long and so not qualifying for that in the same way?
To be on the UEFA B list, he would need to have been at United for at least 2 years (continuous).

There are limited number of places on the UEFA A list and we wisely or unwisely chose other players; for example, Amass is on the A list as he joined from Watford less than 2 years ago. Jack Fletcher (joined from Man City less than 2 years ago) and Dermot Mee are also on the A list. New signings Dorgu and Heaven will also be on the A list, while Rashford, Malacia and Antony were removed from the A list after being sent out on loan.

The Astana match featured a lot of kids who came through the United Academy so would have been at the club for at least 2 years, thus meeting the criteria for the B list.

Absolutely crucial match - one of the biggest for us this season. This trophy will hold important repercussions - not just related to prestige, but our transfer kitty for the summer, the manager staying past the season, and for the broader financial issues related to the new stadium.

    Must win.

Who'd have thought it. Our entire season coming down to a Thursday night match versus Sociedad in early march.

But here we are. A 100% must win and I hope the players realise that

Urgh, we need to go through tonight. Getting dumped out will be a real kick in the pods after such a shite season so far. After the first leg you would fancy is to beat them, but not taking those chances could hurt us.
It’s hard to see if we are gaining momentum as we aren’t sweeping sides away, yet we aren’t been outplayed either of late.
Go through tonight and with players coming back from injury, we could finish the season strongly. Momentum and confidence are so important right now.

Garnacho has to be the right side 10, Maz might be forced to the left

    Onana
    De Ligt Lindelof Mazraoui
    Dalot Casemiro Bruno Dorgu
    Garnacho Eriksen
    Zirkzee

We're winning 1-0 in the 1st half, bring Ugarte for Case, Collyer for Eriksen to defend the lead.

Still concede late on and go out on pens

Massive day today, really. I could see it going to extra time.

    Pre-match build-up

Turnstiles will open from 6pm tonight. All supporters are encouraged to arrive early to the stadium to get behind the team. Following a request from our fan group TRA, which they have generously funded, there will be a smoke pyro display just prior to team walkout. We will also deploy a Devils surfer banner across the Stretford End (blocks W208/106 - W201/101) and we will turn off the music at 7:45pm to allow the atmosphere to build.

Things are bad , a fan group paying for an atmospheric buildup

I see that white text, mate

I think Eriksen should come in as late sub instead of starter.

Its been a nightmare of a season, felt like giving up, but we must get behind the lads with everything. Lets get this done.

Me too. But not if that means I have to watch Lindelof play.
He was really good on 2nd half against Arsenal, which was surprising for anyone. So maybe he could keep his place.

I have absolutely no idea how this will go - and no idea which United will turn up: the dull poor one, or the utterly catastrophic, self-defeating one...

Anyone expecting anything but another nervy/anxious Old Trafford night are probably fooling themselves.

The debatable penalty they got and United not 2-0 ahead at least at the stage was both annoying and frustrating and should United get knocked out tonight I'll look back at that as the root cause in this tie but hopefully United do enough to get over the line I'll even take a penalty shootout win if offered now.

I've gone both goalies to make 2 saves in each half at 40/1 with a free bet. So a gung ho, end to end would be nice, with United coming out on top.

I really don't understand this thing about Obi can't be registered, but Fredricson and Scanlon have both been added to the squad.
I was puzzled by it as I remember that game v Astana when we took a squad of mostly academy kids who wouldn't have been registered.

It all seems to come down to the fact that to be eligible to be named in the B list as an academy kid you have to have spent two years at the club. So the likes of Fredricson and Scalon are fine to be added, as were all those v Astana a few years back. But the likes of Obi, Fletcher and Heaven needed to be registered in the main list as they'd only recently joined. And we opted for the others and not Obi, which looks a big mistake in terms of Fletcher as we need another #9 option much more right now.

Whether that should be the rule, or is just unnecessarily denying opportunities to youngsters who've switched clubs, I don't know. I'd probably say the latter.

    I think we'll scrape through.

I've a feeling we'll scrape through each round to the final at least.

I think we're turning a corner in terms of performances.

It's a shame we're missing Amad as he was our main match winner and creative outlet besides Bruno.

Yeah I agree with that, I really like Eriksen as a sub. Knows his football, always knows what's needed in the game, and his lack of legs stands out less when everyone else is already knackered.
