Sevilla Fútbol Club, also known as S.A.D. or Sevilla (and nicknamed Sevillistas, Los Rojiblancos (The White and Reds), Los Hispalenses (from Hispalis, Seville's ancient name) or El Grande de Andalucía (The Greats of Andalusia)), is a Spanish professional football club based in Sevilla, capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Andalusia. The practice of football was introduced in Seville at the end of the 19th century by the large British expatriate population in the city, composed by owners or managers of manufacturing companies based in the capital of Andalusia. Sevilla Fútbol Club was founded on 25 January 1890 as Sevilla Foot-ball Club (in English). With that foundation date, Sevilla Fútbol Club can boast of being one of the two oldest football clubs in Spain. It shares that honor with another Andalusian club, Recreativo de Huelva. Sevilla and Recreativo also made their mark in history by playing the first official football match in Spain; Sevilla came out victorious, defeating their oldest rivals by 2-0.

During its first couple of decades, Sevilla FC had to settle for being the best football club in its region. Out of the nineteen Championships of Andalusia played in the period from 1917 to 1940, Sevilla won sixteen, while placing runners-up in the remaining three. They further added to their trophy collection by winning two Copa del Reys in 1935 and 1939. As it turned out, the two cups were a harbinger of things to come. In 1946, Sevilla won its only La Liga to date, defeating the favored Barcelona by a single point. Another Copa del Rey in 1948 marked the end of their conquests for a long time; even though the club managed to stay near the top of Spanish football for a while yet, a financial crisis in the 70s saw them being relegated to the Segunda Division on numerous occasions during the next three decades.

The new century brought some welcome changes to the club, most notably with Juande Ramos' appointment as head coach. Under his leadership, Sevilla returned to the football map by winning two consecutive UEFA Cups in 2006 and 2007. The latter season also saw them win the Copa del Rey, a feat they repeated in 2010. After being forced to sell their best players due to another financial crisis, Sevilla shocked everyone by winning three UEFA Europa Leagues in 2014 2015 and 2016. As the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Europa League are considered the same tournament, these latest triumphs saw Sevilla become the most successful club in the history of the competition. Sevilla's biggest rivals are cross-town club clubs Real Betis - with matches between the two termed the Sevilla derby. Sevilla play home games at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, which contains a singular legend: the Spanish national team has never lost a game against an international team in this stadium.

Advantage Sevilla, coming in with the 0-0 draw and away goals potentially on their side.

Although a tough ask against a Mourinho cup side. Guess we'll see.

    Unchanged lineup

    De Gea

    Valencia Bailly Smalling Young
    Matic McTominay
    Mata Alexis Rashford
    Lukaku
Alexis was terrible against Liverpool, but I guess he's still probably undroppable at the moment, eventhough on form, Lingard should be ahead of him. Also not sure about Martial, but if fit, should be ahead of Mata.

Ultimately if Pogba is ready should be a 433 in any case, with Mata dropped, and Rashford starting over Martial.

I don't think I can handle the same situation as today. 2-1 up with seconds remaining and it's backs to the wall stuff. We simply have to go for it. There no other option for us. I think we'll revert to the 3 man midfield again with Pogba back hopefully but if he isn't ready then we stay unchanged.

Sevilla's playing right now at home against Valencia, not resting anyone except for the most dangerous one, their very attacking leftwide-forward, Correa.

You thought that second half against Liverpool was nervy, a slow start in this one and all our asses will be twitching!

If Pogba is back then I would bring him in for Mata. If he's still injured, then an unchanged team.

A big week with Sevilla and Brighton in the FA Cup. I hope we go for it from the off.

That was a hell of a workout, so there'll definitely need to be some changes. I'd like to see us try and dominate this one too, Sevilla aren't so good right now that we should treat them the way we treated Liverpool.

    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Smalling Shaw
    McTominay Carrick
    Mata Pogba Rashford
    Lukaku
    - European game against a Spanish side so it doesn't need to be as intense or physical, we can afford to play with a little more finesse, hence Carrick and Mata both starting.
    - Sanchez, Matic and Young are all older and busted a gut for 90 minutes against Liverpool so should be rested.
    - If Pogba isn't fit, start Lingard instead.

If Pogba is ready for this he'll probably take Mata spot with everything being the same.

    DDG
    Valencia-Bailly-Smalling-Young
    Scott-Matic-Pogba
    Sanchez-Lukaku-Rashford.

    2-0 hopefully.

He wasn't that bad, our early game strategy didn't fit him, he was better in the second half, specially when moved to the left.

I feel this is more a possession game for Mata than for Rashford's runs, but I might be mistaken. Besides, someone has to help Valencia with Correa's threat.

If we want Sanchez to gel into the team we need to play him as much as possible. That's the only way of him forming links with players at this stage of the season.

Except that would mean, probably, Rashford on the right and Sánchez on the left. Sánchez has yet to start a game for us on the right.

It’ll be the same side as today unless Pogba is fit, if he is he’ll come in for Mata

Sevilla are as good as Liverpool, perhaps better, in one thing that doesn't rime with Carrick, which is high pressing.

We need to beat Sevilla at home and score goals. Pogba walks back in.

I'd bring him in for Rashford and move Sanchez back out wide. Mata has been really good at getting involved centrally in recent games and I'd keep him in the side.

Ideally, we'll have all of Rashford, Lingard, Martial and Fellaini to bring on if needed.

Same lineup as today I'd say. Only question mark is if Pogba is fit, but then who do you put him in for? Maybe in for Mata and go 4-3-3, or McTominay and go 4-2-3-1. Can't begrudge McTominay starting that game though.

I thought he was pretty bad. He didn't create or score any chances and was generally ineffective the entire match. Sure, the effort was there, he ran around a lot and attempted to get into the match, but ultimately, it was a futile performance from him. I expect more from a player of his stature.

It's funny you mention the 2nd half, in which United as a whole were completely ineffective. Like I said earlier, Sanchez is a world class talent, but he hasn't show it yet at all since his transfer. I wouldn't drop him, but I do expect more from him. Look at Lukaku, who had a mostly quiet match, but his 2 contributions both ended up in goals. Sanchez just hasn't had any sort of impact just yet.

Disagree on them having advantage over us playing at Old Trafford. If they score, we will score more based on our performances at home. Also, although Alexis was not great - I think it’s a stretch calling his performance as terrible. His work rate and defensive work when needed were great so he contributing to the result. But everyone is entitled to their opinions.

I don't expect this to end pretty, 2-1 with a Guidetti moment right at the end

They got beat 2-0 at home by Valencia. Honestly if we can't beat this lot at OT we don't deserve CL football. Must go All out attack full pelt.
    My XI:
    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Bailly Young
    McTominay Matic Pogba
    Sanchez Lukaku Rashford

After the first leg I didn't like the idea of bringing a scoreless draw home, but after the last three matches I think we really got the edge back. Hopefully we score a few early goals and put it to sleep in the first half.
Knowing our team though we will probably see a similar scoreline to today's game with a squeaky bum time towards the end.
