Did the ref give a pen on the field?

If he didn't why is VAR looking at that with the tools to slow it down, zoom in and recommend a review? Where was that a clear and obvious error.

The application of VAR failed here
    VAR did it's job here.

Can’t get my head round having a keeper who claimed a cross, it’s witchcraft I tell ya….
Lad looks so very calm

    So what happened?

Ref gave a penalty, VAR said he should review it as it's harsh, and he changed his mind after review?

Or ref didn't give a penalty, VAR said he should review as there might be one, and he stuck with his decision?

    The former

Was actually decent compared to the last few weeks. A few issues but he'll, being 2 0 up at half time is rare so ill let it pass. Moment of the match for me, a goalkeeper for man united catches the ball. A goalkeeper for man united is shouting at his defence. Good debut from him so far, he will make a few mistakes still but already you can clearly see he is levels above Bayinder. A bit gutted to not see Mainoo start, think he would run riot today.

Very early days, but so far it's quite nice to have a keeper who seems so far to induce a little bit of calm rather than panic into the defence.

Would be fantastic if we can grab one or two more goals and make it an enjoyable game. Still have the fear we'll concede and make it a nervy game but we've looked good.

We're obviously a better team with Amad, Mount and Yoro playing.

Good half. We've looked the best this season with Mount in the front three, so no surprise here today and great goal from him as well. Sesko with a good striker's goal. And it looks calmer at the back with Lammens there and always prefer a keeper whose first thought is to catch the ball whether it be a cross or a shot (i remember him doing that a lot in the highlights).

He was directly at fault for at least one goal, so that kinda makes his performance not extremely good by default.
Not sure that’s true, but no longer care!

Great half that, the roar when the keeper caught the ball!

Swinging your foot that high in the bix is not smart, Eric Bailly stuff.

Good half, tempo and urgency, didn't create a lot of clear chances but lots of good situations, Sunderland started to come into it in the lats 15 but they don't have the quality outside of Xhaka to make it count.

Nah the attacker is stooping. Its not even as bad as Nani's aerial control that got him sent off

Its only head height because he made himself 5'6 bending over

    Jesus Christ.

The linesman flagged for a foul, the ref therefore gave a penalty as a result.

VAR checked and told ref to review at the screen; upon which he did and decided it wasn’t a penalty.

That’s what happened. Can’t understand the confusion this seems to have caused so many.

Very early days, but so far it's quite nice to have a keeper who seems so far to induce a little bit of calm rather than panic into the defence.
Defender definitely more comfortable passing back to him so far.

    Regardless of everything
    1. We need Mount
    2. We need Casemiro
Cant do much without these two at the moment

As a 6'6 guy, I always had a lot of sympathy for Fellaini when he got freekicks against him for high elbows. Our elbows are just that high naturally! What do they want us to do?
As a shorter man I feel no sympathy. I've been at armpit level of folks like you for TOO LONG!

I think the ref gave that penalty because last week the ref and VAR didn't give a penalty against Chelsea when Gusto almost took a Brighton player's head off with a high foot, and there was some blow back from that.

Refs are always trying to over compensate from the previous week's mistakes, and just end up making even more!

Great performance. Glad to see Amad playing so well because he's had a very poor season up to now. Mbeumo continues his good performances. Mount great again. Delighted to see Sesko scoring another goal. That is so important for his confidence. Bruno's been really good. Lammens looks very strong and composed. One good save but what impressed me more was simply him claiming a cross in the air. Feels like it's been so long since we've had a keeper that does that instead of simply flapping or missing the ball completely. Instils so much more confidence. Defence has still looked poor tbh, which is the only negative.

Even though Sunderland have started the season very well, they do still have a very weak squad so we probably do need to consider that. Still very happy with this. It's easily the best we've played this season, and possibly ever under Amorim depending on how 2nd half goes. Keep that clean sheet!

Another game that could be 4-0 atm if it wasn’t for some wonder saves by the opposition,
I already feel much safer having Lammens in the net.. no idea why he persisted with Bayindir last week

Great to see sesko score again. The performance has been good, and it feels like we could finally see a comfortable win!

Can’t watch the match, but can anyone tell me how Lammens has been?
Fairly calm with the ball at feet but has played simple passes on the ground, hasn't panicked yet and played it long a few times.
One big save from a shot outside the box and a huge claim from a deep cross. Composed.

    Eye on Bruno:

I think he is a great player but I don't think he should be captain.

Watching him today he has a go at players for initiative. For example the keeper guy rid of a ball quick. There were two UTD players up top, Mbueno and Sesko, and but for a header that didn't quite fall right we would have been through. Bruno has a go at the keeper telling him to not go long like that. For me it was the right thing from the keeper. Something I haven't seen since Schmikes and Edwin.

Another example, Deligt has a word with yoro about passing backwards instead of getting the ball forward. Bruno has a go at Deligt and seemed to be telling him to play back and slow things down.

There are other examples too of him telling players to go out of position so he can fill a gap, basically so he doesn't have to.

Yeah I know we winning and this sounds like a whinge. But I'm doing it because we are winning.

Would love Cunha to come on early in the second half and get the goal he needs too.
